Yep. Plate recess was there. Watched a 1992 episode of Nascar Video Magazine. Saw the #4 in the garage. Looks just like the part in the kit😁

Larger decals, like the hood, can be separated into multiple pieces; 1 Kodak, 2 film, 3 Delco Remy and 4 Chevy emblem. A little more work, but much easier

Very nice. I built the AMT Richard Petty 1992 Pontiac over 20 years ago and have always kept it in a display case. It was the first time I had ever put clearcoat over the decals and it still looks great to this day.

Matt, they were required to run factory front and rear bumper covers so they have to be there if the street car had it, the ones for the race cars were molded from the factory panels but were fibreglass instead of the flexible pieces used on the street car. The proper color was GM Wheatland yellow, which is just plain old school bus yellow.

Man I’m so glad I found this video and your channel. I just picked up a few old school NASCAR kits. I haven’t built a model kit since I was like maybe 16 and I’m 38 now lol. I paint professionally in the 1/6 figure hobby, but I haven’t touched a car for a long time. Picked up some Dale Sr. cars and a classic Ernie Irvan Kodak Lumina. I’m stoked. Thanks for the awesome video.

Nice work with the decals. Over time you will develop your own system for decals with all of the tips you pick up from other modelers. While watching the video I paused it and did a quick Google search looking at the rear end of NASCAR Lumina’s. Some of them had the license plate mount on the rear bumper, and others did not. I’m guessing it depends on the year the car was raced. Nice job with the paint it looks close to what ran on the actual car. Maybe just a little too dark, but that is ok. Thanks for sharing.

Glad to see your building a Nascar , I would have picked a Monogram over an Ertl though. I have built plenty of these race cars dating all the way back to my childhood. Funny thing about the license plate spot , its not on all of them. For some reason it was on cars like the Grand Prix and Olds. Maybe cause they used molds of the bumpers from other model kits of the production car.

I had that white 'stuff' on mine too; however, it disappeared when the decal dried. It took me two days to get all those decals on. I screwed up the Lumina on the front bumper. The top of the 'L' tore off. When the decal dried, I literally painted what was missing from the 'L'.

MCW has some good premixed race car colors. Most don't know about it I stumbled across them just browsing the website. I hope to use them as an alternative. I haven't used them for stock builds, I have used plain Tamiya colors or automotive base coat from Automotive Touchup, it's the same price but it's in a rattle spray can with more paint than MCW allowing you for multiple tries if the paint doesn't lay right.

Research your 1:1 subject! I am a little biased since it is one of my favorite parts of Modeling and a big part of WHY I model. Building a 3D replica helps you learn about the 1:1. My go to for Kodak Yellow is Tamiya Camel Yellow. TS-34 maybe? Another point, be careful with color matching pictures. Even though it is a picture of the 1:1, it looks paler and more washed out than if you were looking at the car yourself. This can happen when subjects are photographed in very bright sunlight like this one was. As you can see from your comments, a lot of your viewership and your "phone-a-friend" know a lot about NASCAR and NASCAR modeling. Stick with it, I have been enjoying this build.

You should really start with a small sponsor decal just to determine the characteristics of the film and find the best method to smooth them out. You'll see others have mentioned sectioning larger decal panels, allowing less problems on compound curve placements. Better milky than "silvering", where not enough adhesive causes voids.
