In one of the previous episodes, Mr Sriram questioned people about the long-running company in Chennai, where a place is named after it. As we all know it's Parry & Company. It is active for more than 200 years. Normally companies celebrate golden jubilee and Platinum Jubilee. But Parry & Co remains one of the oldest companies in Indian History. Parry & Co is started by Thomas Parry who came from Whales, United Kingdom. He started the business in 1789. He started as a free merchant. Patrick Ross invited Thomas parry to Chennai. Parry lived in India till his last breath. He Died in Cuddalore due to Cholera. He holds the record of starting the first industry in India. There are much more records and Histories are behind the company. Many roads are still named after the Founder and members of Parry. There are still many memories you could not think of. முந்தைய எபிசோடு ஒன்றில், திரு ஸ்ரீராம், சென்னையில் நீண்டகாலமாக இயங்கி வரும் நிறுவனத்தைப் பற்றி மக்களிடம் கேள்வி எழுப்பினார். அது Parry & Company என்பது நாம் அனைவரும் அறிந்ததே. இது 200 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக செயல்பாட்டில் உள்ளது. பொதுவாக நிறுவனங்கள் பொன்விழா மற்றும் வைர விழாவைக் கொண்டாடுகின்றன. ஆனால் இந்திய வரலாற்றில் மிகப் பழமையான நிறுவனங்களில் ஒன்றாக Parry & Co உள்ளது. இந்த பாரி & கோ, ஐக்கிய இராஜியத்தின் வேல்ஸ் மாகாணத்தில் இருந்து வந்த தாமஸ் பாரி என்பவரால் தொடங்கப்பட்டது. அவர் 1789 இல் வணிகத்தைத் தொடங்கினார். இலவச வணிகராகத் தனது பயணத்தை தொடங்கினார். பேட்ரிக் ரோஸ், தாமஸ் பாரியை சென்னைக்கு அழைத்தார். பாரி தனது கடைசி மூச்சு வரை இந்தியாவில் வாழ்ந்தார். கடைசியாக காலரா நோயால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு கடலூரில் காலமானார். இந்தியாவில் முதல் தொழிற்சாலையை தொடங்கியவர் என்ற சாதனையை அவர் படைத்துள்ளார். இன்னும் பல பதிவுகள் மற்றும் வரலாறுகள் இந்நிறுவனத்தின் பின்னால் உள்ளன. பாரியின் நிறுவனர் மற்றும் உறுப்பினர்களின் பெயரில் பல சாலைகள் இன்னும் பெயரிடப்பட்டுள்ளன. நீங்கள் நினைத்துப் பார்க்க முடியாத பல நினைவுகள் இன்னும் உள்ளன. சென்னையின் மிகவும் பழமையான வரலாறு மற்றும் சுவாரஸ்யமான உண்மைகளைப் பற்றி அறிய முழு வீடியோவைப் பார்க்கவும்.

My dad worked for Parry confectionery from 1967 to 2005. A great journey. In 1989 we attended bicentennial celebrations. 🎉
பாரி அண் கம்பெனியின் மேனேஜிங் டேரக்டர் 1970களில் திரு ஜான் கே ஜான் என்ற மலையாளி இருந்தார். அவரு டைய மகன் ஜார்ஜ் கே ஜான் என்னுடன் சென்னை விவேகாநந்தா கல்லூரியில் B.Com. 1971- 1974 வரை படித்தார். அவர் எனக்கு நல்ல நண்பர்.
சென்னைவாசியாகயிருந்தும் நீரோடை போன்றதமிழில் பேசுவது ஆறுதலாக உள்ளது.வரலாறு என்றும் அலுக்காது👍👍👍👍👍👍

Mr. Sriram is an excellent story teller! Makes history more interesting.
The presentation and voice modulation are superb. You have disclosed many information which I am not aware , though I was employee of EID Parry from 1962 to 1980 at Ranipet and 1980 - 1986 at Dare house. I heard your speech 2/3 times as I have sentimental attachments with the company.

It is a chettiar company. Poor Paymasters. They exploited lot of brahmins and paid them Pittance
Worked in Parrys Confectionery Ltd, under Murugappa Group for 14 yrs. Great group of companies with its products like green wrappered Lacto bon bon, biscuits, unwrapped candies, mints, fertilizers, Chemicals, ceramics, Ceramics products like wash basins, toilet units, sugar, alcohol, tea, cycles, and many more... touching almost every home if not every one. Great legacy. Worked with great management. Thanks to the company and our management. ❤

Thanks Mr Purushothaman. The green wrappered lacto bon bon is the only toffee I would buy every day in the 1960s as a 10 year old boy. My table drawer would be full of green foils . There would be at least one bon bon in my trouser pocket all the time-day or night. I yearn for the good old days. Will they ever come back once at least ?!

@@sankarasubramanian5986 Vanakkam Mr. Sankara Subramanian. The Lacto bon bon in green wrapper was upgraded in to Lacto King with Yellow wrapper with enhanced flavour. This was introduced around 1993 / 04 and it was well received. The demand for this was very high and retailers sold at a premium.

Excellent Video loaded with Interesting Info abt EID Parrys….. wish to add a bit of dark history to Eid Parrys…..They also acted as Commission Agents to send Indentured Labour to all the British Colonies to work in Sugar Plantations….they had a Quarantine Depot near Parrys Corner where they would bring Labour from villages around Chennai and keep them for a month or so before getting them booked to sail to Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Mauritius, Natal- South Africa and further to Caribbean Islands…..its a dark history of Parrys as most of the indentured labour dies in the quarantine depots, whilst sailing or working in the sugar plantations in the British Island Colonies! Mr. Sriram! Thanks again for bringing Parrys History to all us Chennaites🙏💐
சென்னையில் எண்ணூரில் fertilizer தயாரிப்பு நிறுவனம் இருந்தது. அங்கு ஆபிசர் colony ஒன்று இருந்தது. This colony was built to monitor 24x7 operation. The colony still exists in a dilapidated condition. ETS - Ennore thermal station colony was also near there. Ennore foundries was also there. Burma refugees were stationed near there as they were brought by boat to ennore port (small) area. Parry and other companies established and then expanded to manali. This could have been made a brilliant industrial hub with better planning in housing for labourers. With MRF being there it could have become the automotive hub instead of sriperumpudur. A missed chance.

Parrys sweets & toffees were well known amongst common man for long . It got separated out of EID in 70s & was known as M/s Parry's confectionery Ltd. Some how due to management changes & corporate decisions , that business line was hived off. It left lot of families in hardship . Those who toiled for its brand value keep lamenting. They , once upon a time, even had Cadburys on the run😢😢😢😢😢. Business lines can get diversified but the BRAND value is still well known.

Parry had a railway company in southern India.It also ventured in palmyrah sugar .The first distillery was started by Binny at Samalkot in AP later purchased by Parry under Deccan sugar and Abkari company
