Parrotlet and Budgie Playing With Toys
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Thought I would share my cute birds. This is a compilation taken over the month of May. My two birds love to play with their toys. I know many birds don't play so I'm happy these two do. Unfortunately after the last video Nautica bit Minion in the foot. Typical of Parrotlets but I stopped the fight in time. They really are like kids. Fights can break out of nowhere so you have to be supervising them. Hence one reason they are with me all the time in my computer room. No real damage. Minion was babying his foot. Both are banished to their respective cages for the rest of the day. Play time is over. I didn't add music this time because they make soft little noises I wanted everyone to be able to hear

Thank you. They are adults now and Minion has become quite the talker.
He finally spun her all the way around the wheel. That wicker ball is bigger than the usual cat balls with bells in them. She's so strong to lift it. This video is so cute.

Yeah, it's happened a few times now. But they seem to do it less now. Yeah I love how she picks them up. I got two at the last bird show. They like them so I'm going to need more. They already destroyed that green one. I have a dark pink left.
Cute birds!

Aw thanks. They are adults now. I'm hoping Minion will breed for me.
I'm a new parakeet owner. I'm loving watching my two playing! I didn't know they would use an exercise wheel. I will look into getting one.

Yes these are great under supervision. My birds still play with theirs. They like standing on it. I need to film that. Then they fall off it.
Minion and Nautica are so cute together!💙💛🐦😊

Thank you. I love my little peeps. Thanks for watching them.
My budgie has the same round mirror that spins with little beads and it’s the best toy ever! It makes a very quiet sound and is made well, unlike so many bird toys.

Yes those mirrors are fun. My last budgie named Bullet used to use hers as a bed. She would sleep on it laying it flat. To her it wasn't a toy.
Im curious if these guys met young? I have a budgie under 3 months and a 1 year old parrotlet that cannot be trusted near eachother!

Yes. I said I bought them at the same time. They are basically the same age and grew up together. Once adults parrotlets rarely make new bonds and will be aggressive towards and kill other birds.

Ha mine too and so do my budgies. I have gone through two big wood and paper toys for my three bigger budgies and they always destroy them to nothing.
I have budgies from past 3months they play well and do fight with eachother but I never let them come out of cage... I get scared of thinking what if they won't come back to cage,.. ur birds are looking so beautiful and adorable

Oh that's not good. You should keep them in a room where they can't get out. Let them out by just opening the door. They know where the food is and should go back. Otherwise you can catch them and put them back yourself. Clipping them and then taming them would be good. Have one on one sessions and work on stepping up.
Is this parrotlet a forpus or a lovebird?

She's a Pacific Parrotlet Forpus Coelestis. I now have a turqoise male too.
Hi! I'm looking into getting a bird that would enjoy sitting on my shoulder as I do errands, fly around the house without being too dumb (I've heard doves just fly into lights!), and isn't going to yell a lot at night. I'm stuck between these two breeds, would a parrotlet or a budgie be a better choice for me? Also, I don't particularly want two (since I'll be bonding so heavily with it), does that influence my decision?

I highly recommend you get a young budgie. Parrotlets are difficult more advanced birds. I have been keeping and breeding birds for about 30 years. I recommend wing clipping too to keep stupid accidents from happening. It helps with the bonding and taming as well if your bird relies on you to move him around from room to room. Budgies and parrotlets do well as single pets if you have time to play with them and give them attention. A play gym and lots of out time is important too. I travel with Minion, the budgie in this video. He's about 2 years old now and an amazing talker. He and I bonded well and he has a playlist you can check out.

You’ve probably since gotten a bird but “hand raised” are key!!! A hand raised male will talk and bond with you. They’re easily trained and so fun.

@@kellyharney2385 I agree hand fed budgies are best. But aviary bred budgies can make good pets too. Minion here has been one of the most amazing budgies I have ever bred and he used to be a wild aviary budgie I got from a show. Just check out his play list and his current 230 word vocabulary.
I have ordered a much larger cage for my two little budgie buddies. I'm hoping to increase my little flock by two more. I see from the video that you have a separate cage below the first one. Is that perhaps due to the birds not getting along? I've become a bit of a budgie-holic! Should I keep the two new ones separate for a bit before introducing them into the large cage?

My shelf system holds four cages. Parrotlets can't be houses with other birds. Not even other parrotlets unless they are breeding. She would hurt Minion my budgie if I didn't let them out. Minion has his own cage for sure but he visits her cages. But budgies are social and you can keep several in a nice sized cage. You'll be fine with four provided you don't have more females than males. The females are the more aggressive ones. The three babies I raised last year are becoming adults not and all turned out to be females so I'm having this problem now. Definitely supervise the new ones so they aren't picked on.

@@ScaryFear I'm not ready to take on breeding! I believe my two are both males. They get along extremely well with each other. I realize it can be difficult to figure out their gender however I am asking the breeder to only give 2 more males if possible. Thank you for taking the time to answer a newbie's questions.

Sexing budgies isn't that hard. Males are easier to tell than females. I have a video on my channel called Sexing Budgies. It's an older one but you can find it in the search. Even if you're not breeding you wouldn't want more females than males because they can hurt or kill each other.
Out of pure curiosity. Could a budgie and a parrotlet breed!? I mean, they´re almost the same size.....
@ScaryFear
2 жыл бұрын
No. It's not about size. They are totally unrelated species evolved on different continents. Parrotlets are new world true parrots from Central and South America. Budgies are grass parakeets from Australia. They are not closely enough relates or even in the same genus for that to work.

I just got a new parrotlet and he’s still under 1 year.. his name is mango. Should I buy Hm a friend?
@ScaryFear
3 жыл бұрын
That's great! Congrats. No, actually. Parrotlets are solitary birds unlike other parrots. They are very aggressive to other birds so you can not keep them in pairs. Not even with another parrotlet. They will fight and hurt each other. If you ever want a second he will need his own cage. Good luck and hope he will be a friendly bird for you. They are a difficult bird that need lots of work and attention.
