Lovebirds are know to have ONE strong attachment in their lives. So it is recommended that you only get one if you are looking for a strong bond with your love bird. Also it important to purchase a bird that was raised hand fed as they are more likely to attach to you. The only down side to this is if you want only one you need to make it a priority to spend as much time with it as possible. Having a 9-5 job would not be ideal. They would become incredibly depressed and could die. My cousin works from home and has a lovebird, Her bird is literally in love with my cousin and perches on her shoulder for snuggles and kisses all day.

@@Graid I don't know. I do agree with you on some species such as monkeys, whales, dolphins etc. But as long as the lovebird is with their owner 24/7 they are very happy. It's very easy to take them places and they easily hide in your hoodie or your bag. Species interact and bond with other species all of the time. Human and dog. Dog and deer. Lion and Bear. Rabbit and Tortoise. I think you catch my drift.

@@Graid It's actually for the best. Lovebirds can get really aggressive so if you don't want to constantly fight with them just to feed and take care of them it's better if you only get one. Birds always treat you as one of their kind and usually their mate so they're just as happ3with you than they would be with another bird.

She surely could have done some good research before buying a living animal, or at least some basic investigations on the subject as we do when bying a computer or a cell phone! It is also possible to have 2 males (As I do. But if the birds you're buying where not already together, couple or same sex birds, you would need to buy a second cage to get them to know and get acquanited to each others, which may take years). It is also possible to just have one bird but then you would need to spend a lot of time with that bird because you're going to be his sole companion. * By the way, the lady in the video could simply place a fake egg to discourage her female from laying eggs or, simpler, she could just remove all the nest stuff so the female won't be stimulated to ovulate!!!!!!

I do agree that it’s actually the sons birds and he should be taking care of them and done researched before he convinced his mum into buying him birds. i mean i have a cockatiel, and shes great! i love her very much and she always comes over for birb scritches. and i completely agree, theres no reason to not get a bird if you did months of research prior to getting it and are prepared for a 10 year to life-time commitment. My cockatiel is lonely when im not home though, and so i was looking to do some research into possibly getting a lovebird.

Maybe I've just been lucky but my birds are fairly quiet most of the time. They just spend there time shredding toys and flying around my room. Oo they do get a bit bitey sometimes if I try put them back in there cages before there ready Haha. There pretty good though they put themselves back if I just leave them to it. arjun johal once birds “imprint” on eachother (pretty much alot of species of birds mate for life). If they are seperated, even by cage it is almost a guarantee that they will each get sick and die(by the way birds are notorious for being able to hide sickness very well) I worked with exotic animals and it happened when people would give up their birds and not tell us they imprinted with eachother. We would seperate them (because birds often kill when they are in a cage with an unwated bird) One particular instance i remember were a pair of sun conures. We seperated them. In a week the female died and the next day the male died. They really do die of broken hearts.

Stefania Badea I’m no expert but I know they need lots of attention and handling if they’re going to feel comfortable around people. Good luck.

Stephanie Badea, if they are around you alot, they will get use to you and accept you as a friend. How old are they? And how long have you had them?

I completely agree with the final advice of this lady. I do not recommend anyone to keep birds as pets. As much as you are dedicated and kind to them, in the end conclude that it is cruel because the bird spends its life captive. You can't go outside with a bird, while you can travel around the world with a dog. We have had birds like this in our household for almost 20 years, we love them almost like children, we try to please them, we don't keep them in a cage at all, they have freedom of movement throughout the household. If I had a magic wand I would return all the birds from the cage to their natural habitats.

I intended to get a lovebird for handfeeding.. to create bond with it, but at the shop i got confused after seeing all the beautiful bird, ended up buying two.. which is apparently both males. Nothing much to say, of course they don't get close to me as i expected yet they know me, fly to me when they want to, and happily occupied my living room. Their favourite spot is the curtain rail which is 9 feet high from floor. And they come down to their cage which i placed it high enough only when they're hungry or to bath.

Very true this video was stupid !! If they don't wanna Breed them than they shouldn't have a male and female . I think they are the problem not the birds, they should give them up and find something more suitable for them or not have any kind of bird. And i agree who tf boils the eggs? I would love to have one of the eggs and raise it.

Also she would nest and lay unfertilized eggs- more so when I gave her late bedtimes. When I put her to bed early she would slow down. Also if I took her away to my parents w me- the location change would interrupt the cycle of fertility

Lot of queer information being spread here. Okay first, I adopted my lovebird because I would never “buy” an animal. At this point we know that the pet trade is just inhumane. Secondly, I work quite a bit. So to compensate for that, I wake up early and I bring my lovebird in his cage into the bathroom with me when I shower. This has multiple benefits. It’s additional bonding time, it’s an activity, we talk and play peekaboo, and the steam is very good for his sinuses(birds living in the home often suffer from sinus infections). I put him in his cage in front of a window where he gets daylight, not hard direct sunlight or anything like that and he can see the yard. I also when leaving let play some pretty string music with lots of high resisters. I have a camera in the house I occasionally check up on him with and talk to him. And when I get home out he comes I make a big fuss and he spends the whole night hanging out with me until he puts himself to bed between 10-11pm. He’s a very happy bird. Having a 9-5 isn’t going to kill him. Keep his cage clean, give him fresh food and water and as much stimulation as possible and you can expect a very happy, well rounded bird.
