  • @QuiltingWithNancy

Hi Kate, the numbers is usually from the inside out - so if you were doing a log cabin you would start with the center and the numbers follow as the rows go out. Having said that, i do most of my paper piece designing on the Electric Quilt program, then it pretty much numbers it for me! :) Nancy

Hi Debra, I don't normally add the extra 1/8" to the edges of "noramal" paper pieced designs, but it doesn't mean you couldn't. the reason i find it helpful on the NYB is becuase of the curved piecing, that seems to distort the block so that extra helps it be square in the end. Thanks for the question,Nancy

I've never done paper piecing before. Your tutorial is wonderful. I was hoping to use your pattern, and follow along, but can't find your pattern. Can it be purchased anywhere?

With your video I am confident I can try this and make it turn out like it’s suppose to but I am confused on when you sew past the outside line of the pattern and when you don’t. If unsure can you stop at the outside line and have the pattern still be right?

Hi Cindy, by sewing off the edge on the lines that are on the edge of the pattern your seem allowance will just be more secure😊

Thank you, very easy and clear instructions. HOWEVER: How does one make a mirror image pattern? (The above does not need one). There are patterns which need to be made in the mirror image. Please help!

Hi Anna - honestly I don’t know, I have never tried. I’m wondering if that is something you can ask your copier to do? Is there a mirror image option on your copier? Good luck, I hope that helps.

What determines when you sew past the line off the page and when you stop at the line where design ends?

  • @QuiltingWithNancy

If the design line is at the edge, I sew off. If the design starts or ends in the middle of the design I start and stop at the line. Hope this helps :)

What is the name of the quilt hanging as a backdrop to Nancy's tutorial. It's beautiful and I'd love to get the pattern.

OnPoint sorry for delay. I'm hopeing to try the Nebraska star. I made the mistake of photo copying the star, and then traced the pattern. After a few failed attempts at putting it together I finally completed the first two triangles and discovered I did them both the wrong way round. I didn't take into account the mirror image. Disheartened

So before you even start the paper piecing, do you cut out all the small parts. knowing where they go?

Hi Gail, I do cut the fabrics for those smaller pieces but always bigger than they need to be. Place your ruler on the piece and cut a fabric piece at least 1" bigger to accomidate the 1/4" seam allowance. Thanks for the quesiton - Nancy
