This retelling of Cinderella may be missing the fairy-magic but is still full of glamour and enchantment. Leslie Caron captivates as a put-upon scullery step-sibling that gets the belle-of-the-ball transformation thanks to a grifter godmother (a sensational Estelle Winwood). Michael Wilding plays the princely one, the amazing Elsa Lanchester plays the wicked one and Keenan Wynn helps connive the ever-after. I feel like this one could have inspired the newer disney version, with her thinking he just worked at the palace. I also liked that he was a Duke rather than a prince.
Love the way in which Cinderella allows herself to fantasize about the man whom she thinks is the son of the cook.
