Today I want to continue exploring some of the best wine & food pairings on Earth, which wine goes with which food. If you remember, a little while ago, I gave you 3 Simple but Essential Tips to Pairing Wine & Food, some general food & wine pairing guidelines, which I recommend to always have in mind, you can watch it right here, but today I want to get into one of my favorite foods in the whole wild world, therefore one of my favorite pairings, wine with Japanese food, wine with the delicious, succulent, and subtle sushis. It’s a tricky pairing, because sushis are very delicate in flavors, and wine isn’t the natural traditional pairing, sake would be. So which wine styles go best with sushis? Let’s dive in…

Dry Riesling, Provence Rose, and Brut Bubbles are all terrific seafood-friendly pairings that I enjoy with all forms of delicately-prepared seafood thanks to their delicacy, acidity, and minerality. I am really looking forward to trying my first Chablis (Premier Cru, appears to be of the minimally-oaked/unoaked variety)! I would add that aged reds that yield soy sauce aromas while not overwhelmingly oaky should make for interesting pairings with the barbecued eel (which gets a healthy dousing of sweet soy-based glaze).

The Chablis should be excellent! And that's an interesting idea about aged reds and BBQ'd eel - I suspect you're right
Believe it or not, sweet sherry goes really well with Sushi. A Sommelier recommended I try it & at first I was hesitant BUT they really do go well together. My local Sushi place serves Plum wine which is also sweet & goes well.

We'll have to try!
This is where you've been hiding. Ok, I subbed. Best wine with sushi is a crisp fino sherry. No doubt about it and it's often an option in Japanese restaurants these days. Actually, fino and manzanilla are superb partners with all manner of fish and seafood.
Nice Chinese music to match Japanese food... not a good pairing.
