Those panels look so good. If you think the carpet still needs more cleaning try a foam cannon, the drill brush, power wash it clean and then the wet vac/bissell.

Ryan..laughed out loud when you puzzled about an 8 track,,showing your age, as well as i am..and good to see the Mrs helping..maybe someday she will venture on more videos..have fun together..it makes the days a lot happier with good memories..

Hey Ryan, Just want to say Great Job & Thank You! We really enjoy watching your videos and all of the excellent progress you've made on the '73 Camaro Z28. We're very impressed with your diligent work ethics and great attention to detail. You remind me of a lot like myself... Very detailed oriented, I don't cut corner's and any project tackled gets done 110% correctly and the end result is always perfection. FYI... The wired connector's under the seats are Seat Belt Warning Buzzer's? / Dash Light. GM's safety reminder to keeping both the Driver and Passenger safely buckled in. The car is looking more amazing each time we get to see it.... Hopefully by Summer both you and the new wife will have a beautiful (like new) car to cruise around in and really get to enjoy. Hard work always pays off. Until then... Keep up the great work!

Thank you so much! Those seat wires make sense now too (also makes sense why the drivers side was not plugged in haha). Early July is the new goal to have this car done for the goodguys show in Columbus, so we will see!

Crazy I have the exact 73 Z28 with same paint and interior color! Didn't think there was another.

Outstanding result with the plastic color match as well as your painting skill, Ryan. For future reference cleaning carpets or floor mats. Lean a wood pallet against an exterior wall, clip the carpet or mats to it and start out with a high pressure rinse. Spray on the carpet cleaner and let it dwell a couple of minutes, then use your drill brush... up & down, side to side in checkerboard pattern. Rinse with the pressure washer until you see clear water, then use a wet/dry vac or the Bissel to extract. Repeat if still soiled, but this is a timesaver and much easier on your back! Cheers, John

Hey Ryan, you always amaze me. Great result, you were smart to find a color match for those plastic pieces. Glad you chose to simply clean those carpets. I have the original set in my 442. My other cars that I have changed out have always been a challenge to find a correct molded set. I'm sure you already did but I always put dynamat or some sort of equivalent on all the floor and inside the door panels. Makes a huge difference in the ride. Glad to see your better halfs involvement, mine has helped on many. I'll take those 8-track tapes for my '70, LOL.

Im loving watching this car come together. I sprayed interior panels in my 68 galaxie convertible. Luckily everything was black. I have a 75 hurst w25 olds cutlass. White with tan interior accents. Alot of forums Im in talk about the poor quality of gm plastic interior parts getting brittle and turning to dust and that the steering wheels and dash covering get sticky from the oils used in manufacturing leaching out.

Your doing a amazing job. Car will look like new keep up the good work 😁💪🏻

Hey Ryan. Thanks for the shout out on the cam and the dynamic compression ratio. That was cool. I appreciate it. Just a note. All 1973 cars we built in Norwood Ohio. The Norwood plant had better house keeping practices than the Van Nyes (LA) plant. LA cars were used as rolling garbage cans. It is very rare to find a build sheet in a Norwood car. And those were 8 track tapes. Cool to see an old ac/dc album on 8 track

Ryan, the faded to green now looks new brown! It’s almost what I call buckskin brown, no matter what the name of the color is it’s going to look new. Great idea and great job!

Check behind the door panels in the rear seat panels for your build sheet GM normally put in the behind the driver side door panel or they put them behind the plastic part of the front seats

Very nice Ryan, I did some interior dyeing back in the day, prep work is everything.keep at it young man, this is exciting to watch it come together.

Looking awesome Ryan. Those floors are in fantastic shape. Instead of using expensive sound deadening, you can use self stick aluminum insulation from your local hardware store. It is always a pleasure to see your progress. I look forward to seeing more soon. Be Well!

Have you considered dyeing the carpet? Given that it still looks good and that you’re probably going to always see some stubborn stains and discolouration, I’ve seen excellent results changing the colour of carpets and you get a like new end result! Please keep the video’s coming. You really are doing a fantastic job! Love your attention to detail!👍🇨🇦

The paint looks great can’t wait to see the pieces re-installed. Do you have any before/after pics of the carpet to put up side by side? I’m curious to see how the color changed.

That interior came out looking fantastic! The floorboards looking really solid Ryan, are you planing to put something like Lizard Skin down for some sound proofing? Nice to see Mrs. Ryan sharing the rebuild!! Forgot, if you’re gonna run the ozone machine, try to get the fan in the HVAC running to circulate the ozone through the vents and whatnot.

How is the paint holding up still on the plastic a year later? Thinking about doing this to my dash plastic interior due to fading. Wondering if the paint is starting to chip or fade away or scrape off easy due to armoral or normal cleaning methods

Hey Ryan, just came across your channel. I have a 79 Z28 that I've had since 2003 in MI (I've lived in TN for the last 8 years). I want to start fixing it up, I've let it go and it needs work. One of the things i wanted to ask about where the rear plastic interior panels. Mine have some scratches and have a chalky texture to them and feel like if you apply a little pressure that you could scar them up easy with your fingernail. I was wondering if that was the case for your panels and if you had to be really carful scuffing them up for paint. I'm afraid if I start scuffing mine up for paint, the plastic will just fall apart. Awesome build btw, I absolutely love 70-73 Camaros, and that root beer color is just perfect.

I’m not sure if Chevy did this in 1973, but in 1974 they had a pressure switch on both the driver and passenger seats as well as the seat belt switch. I believe the doors also. It was all interlocked with the ignition. If it sensed the driver or the passenger sitting in the car without the seat belt fastened, the car would not start. And it all had to be in a specific order. It was Chevrolet’s attempt to conform with newly legislated seat belt laws. It was very unpopular and was done away with after a very short time. It was hated so much that most people bypassed it

I usually take out the carpet scrub it and then hang it up. I then take the power washer and wash or basically rinse out the dirt and soap with it. It works quite well and it takes out the dirt that is stuck deep down also. I found that sand usually goes in deep and that if I use a wet dry vacuum then most of it does not come out most of the time. I do not say that you must have done it. It's just a idea for any future projects.

the sun fades those panels really bad, my maroon were almost pink due to the fading

The yellow and white wire connects to the seat belt sensor located under the passenger seat. Each seatbelt retractor will also have a wire connected to them. The seat belt sensor is part of the seat belt warning system.

As long as all the wires are plugged back in, the system should work if you are interested. I can get into more detail should you want to get the seat belt warning system working.

Adhesion promoter sucks! I got plastic/vinyl dye made in my correct color and they told me to use the promoter. I asked about using Plastic Prep which I've used before and is basically just a chemical cleaner that doesnt leave residue. They said dont need that. I used their method. The plastic was ok but the soft vinyl I can scratch off with my finger. If I rub it hard enough it will flake off. So mad, especially since center console and dash are new. Console is ok-ish, but dash is still weak. So it's a hands off policy in my car for everyone for the dash. Color on the dash is already starting to crack from the weather, cold-hot. And that's with being in the garage. And I did wash the dash with Dawn dish soap first to get rid of mold release agents. It peeled after paint. I stripped the color back off (with a hose!) recleaned and repainted. Better, but not great and the signs of cracking is where it's at now. I'll probably have to buy ANOTHER new dash in a couple years and do it again. I've painted interior parts before using Plastic Prep and no adhesion promoter and had NO issues. Never again for adhesion promoter on those parts!

Agh man that’s terrible that happened! Stomach sinks when something like that happens. I’m glad I didn’t use adhesion promoter. I knew it was a weird product based off of painting bumpers and such, if you put too much on or don’t let it flash correctly between coats it screws a lot of stuff up. So far this is holding up really well and my garage gets really hot (over 100 during the day) and cold at night. I accidentally slipped and scratched a small area with a screw driver and the paint held on nice without chipping off. Dabbed a foam brush over the area and can’t even tell (luckily) 👌

I was also going to say seat belt warning light/buzzer. But on the passenger side? Idk. In my 78 it goes directly to the seat belt receiver, not to the seat, and only on the driver's side. But your car is more deluxe than mine so maybe your warning light went to both sides?

The old carpets may have come out clean and smelling good but they will won't look new. I would have replaced the carpets. Just my opinion.

You ARE replacing that carpet right??? New carpet deffintly needed. . especially after how nice you've gotten everything else. Spend $75 on plastic paint and not replacing carpet, I don't get that one..You've never heard of journey or ac/DC? Those 8tracks .

I know both bands but the 8 track looked like some old atari game at first until I read it lol 😅. I am planning on putting that carpet back in, all the smell came out and I spent 3 hours extracting it. But I just can’t seem to find a good stock replacement carpet that matches the this original one that well

Hi Ryan from New Zealand. I have been following your build from day 1 and I am really enjoying it. I really like the way you have preserved the OE look of this car, it is a real credit to you. I have found inspiration from much of what you have done, especially your painting. This motivated me to buy my first HVLP gun which I used for the first time last week and love (I also bought a HVLP touch up gun). The interior trim paint paint job looks 100%, well done. I am building a '65 GT350 clone and will be painting all of the interior trim panels (excepts vinyl trims) and picked up a number of key tips from you. Many thanks, Steve.
