I've never seen Oxen pull before. So much different than Draft Horses. Horses have more spirit and are naturally nervous, but the Oxen are very calm. Very interesting that such small animals can pull that amount of weight with relative ease.

This is a demonstration of the work they are trained to do. A fair is once a year, it's not like anyone asks the oxen to work like that every day. The rest of the year draft animals do much easier work - and you can tell from their health and condition that they are very spoiled and well cared for.

Videos like this are so fascinating! It's not simply the wonder of watching these animals do amazing things; it's also wonderous reading the comments that cry of "Animal Abuse"! "That's so abusive!" "Stop that abuse!" Truly, your cries of "abuse" at demonstrations like this are... well... "Abusive" of all who know better! Please tell us - give us a list - of EVERYTHING in this world that is abusive. List them for us, please. List them for all the people who care for these oxen and other working animals. Someday, you will be ruler of a spineless world.

For those who say this is cruel, you can try this too. Get a strongman or crossfit pull harness and a prowler type sled and a stack of 45lb. olympic plates. Pull it five feet, put a plate or two on and repeat until you cannot pull it anymore. Yep people do this and many of them like doing it.

At what point should you provide wheels so it can be easier for them to pull, no?

Sometimes the stupidity of some of these complainers are more entertaining to see than the video it's self.

Blanca Garcia can't stand the relationship man has had with animals for thousands of years and thinks this is cruel amusement. whoever it is that said this is barbaric truly has no grasp at what these particular animals enjoy doing, what they where bread to do, and where the history of this is! to these animals and to the people who use them, this is no different than a athlete showing off his capabilities, they do not work this hard all the time, u can tell by the way they trust there owner, however, by the way they trust him, i can tell he does use them for work and also take good care of them. If you notice, hes not wipping them, he is standing in front of them and askin them to pull, and they are by choice. This event comes from when they used to work oxen all the time for plowing fields or logging, etc, and groups would get together to show off there team of animals, its a show of pride, not barbaric! if you do not like it do not watch, and if you want to comment, first spend some time with these folks before making unfounded comments.

I have to say this pull isn't bad but I go to several fairs every year and the oxen pulling has always made me sick to my stomach. They beat the hell outta these animals and the face always seems to be a favorite target. I remember one pull earlier this year in particular where one ox went down on his knees and pissed himself, yet the man continued to beat him with the whip. It was horrible, I never watched another oxen pull again. This man is pretty nice to his animals, if it was more like this i'd have no issue with it but where I am I honestly wish they would ban it. The animals are literally hit for no reason. It's maddening!
