My older brother has a mini hobby farm. He has a mink, a cat and a barn owl and they were all raised together from a young age so they know each other. They keep his barn and property rodent free. The owl has never gone after the mink. They work as a team. I’ve seen it and it is nuts. The mink will get the rodent out in the open and the other 2 will deal with it. But they will share in their spoils.

@@rla1000 it is crazy wild. I do t know how the owl doesn’t mix the mink up at his speed or that the cat swipes the wrong animal and scars the mink but it is wild. We will sit on his patio and leave his barn light on and drink some beverages in evening and see what goes down. Better than TV.

About 1992 was walking along a river bed in winter near Laramie WY. Trying to be downwind from some bald eagles I wanted to photograph. Bunch of small trees along river I was having to duck under. Came out from under one and all I heard was a few very loud wooping sounds from a horned owl the size of a small bus making a 180 turn at face level and all I saw were talons as big as Freddie Krueger’s gloves at a distance of about 2-3 feet. Scared the piss out of me. Literally and figuratively.

Both Brown and Black Rats are very efficient predators of House Mice. One problem replaces another; rats don't produce the overpowering stench that male House Mice (particularly 2 or more males engaging in scent competition) produce, but House Mice don't shriek and leap to bite you when accidentally startled or cornered as rats do.

@@Kclark495 I grew up in a "blink and you'll miss it town", as my father used to say. He also called them "jerk water" towns, because back in the days of steam locomotives, the railroads would build wooden water tanks and would keep a supply of wood or coal available for their trains to refuel on long runs. The engineer would pull up to the tank and pull down on the rope that was attached to a large pipe on the tank. The pipe would rotate down and water would start flowing into the tank on the locomotive, hence "jerk water". Small towns grew up around those spots on the rail line.
