I totally forgot to mention, both Hawk decks have the old school bolt pattern for mounting trucks. So if you ever come across them and are going to skate them, make sure the base plate for the trucks either has the old bolt pattern, or a baseplate that has the 6 hole drill out like the wider Indy trucks!

I prefer that version of the Tony Hawk graphics featuring the bird skull as compared to the other version. And oh yea I like the extra width on some of those 80s boards for stable landings. I remember chatting with another skater back in the 80s who also liked the extra wide boards for the same reason.

I remember my brother had the blue hawk deck and I had a cabilaro deck in the 80’s. Brings back memories.

I had the blue one back in the day...with Tracker trucks, Rat Bones with Swiss Bearings and a set of Ugly Stix.

The shorter wheelbase of today's popsicle skateboards is what enables these to function with the typical wheels of today that are on average 52mm even some that are smaller in the market and then the ones 53mm or 54mm all the way thru 58mm or even 60mm of Spitfire and other brands used on popsicles.. MY FAVORITE are 80's skateboards & wheels but you need at least a 58 conical wheel or bigger to use modern wheels on old school 80's due to wheelbase. I've vintage 80's wheels but at times I use my 58mm 95a OJ's on my 80's style skateboards.

Seriously! The Lucero deck is so amazing. Honestly if it wasn't a limited released an was released regularly I would have bought it again.

My blue hawk bottle nose has been hanging on the wall for a few months and it's so hard not to set it up, might just set it up and push around on it, just waiting to see how you're going to set yours up!

I just recently retired a purple and black hawk bottlenose reissue, it was a good deck and didn't get soggy feeling, I replaced it with a Natas kitten deck

I wish I snagged that purple and black one! I think it's the best looking color scheme out of all of them. I rode the pink one years ago and you're right, it lasted for a while and never lost it's stiffness.

ive skated a bunch of the reissues and they all seem to be solid, long lasting decks, I put on my shark watch and my airwalk prototypes, grab my board and all of a sudden it's the 80s again!!!!

The bottlenose is the best of both decks. It's wider, has a flared out tail, and is easier to grab the nose.

I fully agree! The other one I want to try is the one where it has like a chicken claw/foot behind the chicken head that kind of looks like an Egyptian design, and from the few pics I can find online, it looks like the nose curves up instead of straight out so it might be even better.

In the U.K. I buy a lot of the Santa Cruz re issue complete boards , but if I was to buy the deck on its own I’d be paying U.K. sterling £99.99, It’s cheaper to buy completes as they are 139:99 to 148:99 , I love old school boards, I was skating back in 86/87, Santa Cruz and death box were my brands and some vision decks, I like your channel mate I’m subbed up ✌🏻

That's awesome. I couldn't afford to hang them as pieces of art like some do. I've gone full circle with SC and it's a great place to be in my middle-age now. It's the perfect way to keep fit as well.

The reason the blue deck has a bigger nose than some other decks of the same era is it's meant for ramp skating (grabbibg etc) as TH was a Ramp skater..whereas something like the Natas only had a three inch nose

After skating old school decks a bit, I've begun to think that the popsicle stick deck may have orignally been intended to be ridden with the larger and steeper kick as the tail, not the nose. Most decks from the 80s have a very large and steep tail, and in the late 80s and very early 90s a short kick on the nose was introduced to help with flatground ollies. The logical progression from this would have been a slightly larger kick nose, and then eventually the popsicle stick shape with almost symetrical nose and tail. But any of the skaters who grew up riding the 80s era decks would have likely prefered a tail profile similar to that on the 80s decks. So the early 90s companies developed a design that has one side of the board with an 80s tail angle, and one side with a shallower and shorter nose. Someone very soon probably figured out that riding it the other way around, with the large and steep end as the nose, offers a bigger surface for noseslides, crooked grinds, etc. and allows the front foot to get more leverage in the dragging motion of the flatground ollie. So the direction was flipped. But, if you were so inclined, you could ride a popsicle stick deck the other way around and have a bigger tail for tailslides and stalls.
