Gripping an old school skateboard deck!
Фильм және анимация
Here is a video on how I gip my old school skateboard decks and leaving the top logo exposed. This is a reissue Jeff Grosso demon Santa Cruz deck in red. I can't wait to skate it! I hope I can help teaching how to grip these boards that need a 10 inch wide sheet of grip tape. Song is So Miles, a mix by Freddie Joachim!

R.I.P. Grosso, can't believe hes gone.
Vicious grip actually sells 11 inch grip tape squares, so you don't have to do this. That's what I use on my Hosoi hammerhead setup
I got a Roskopp deck, bout to grip this up and shred!
I always wanted the multi countered grip In a crazy pavin style, but went with fly paper instead on a Lance mountain.
Yo man I am actually riding the exact same deck and colour right now for pool skating, this is sent all the way from New Zealand chur enjoy the ride
I remember gripping one of my popsicle decks like that. Never again, it looks cool but I was always slipping off the deck.

CaptainChaos88 one of my pops came like that, but i liked it because it was small enough for grip and i could tell where to put my foot better. (it was my 2nd board, like a year ago.
this is a good tutorial, if new skaters want to do this on a different shape board.

Thanks for checking out the vid! For sure, I actually had to wing it my first ever old school deck because I wanted the top graphic exposed, and trying to grip the gnarly shapes was interesting. But with practice I got it kind of down. Still learning though!
you sound a lot like Christian Hosoi, and nice job man, all I skate is old school.
Grosso forever!
Jeff Grosso is Life. BTW cool video, too.

What deck is this? it's my birthday soon and I might want this Edit: I just realised that he put it in the video
Thank you!
What's your opinion on the mini logo grip? I got some with my new powell peralta board but I'm scared of it wearing out too easily. I usually use mob grip wasn't sure if I should stick to mob or try the mini logo grip? Since it's a cruiser that I will have for a while I want to ensure the grip doesn't wear out prematurely.
SOOOOO SATISFYING, ARGHGA
I want this deck, so cool
What store did you buy that from? Oh and what's that white board in the back it look nice also

I actually took a trip to Cali and bought it at the Vans skatepark in orange California! The combi bowl looks so epic out there! That board actually is an early to mid 80s tony hawk Powell Peralta reissue deck! I had Tony Hawk sign a pic of him riding it so I won't ride it haha. Here's a link for it, hope it works www.google.com/search?q=tony+hawk+white+reissue&client=safari&channel=iphone_bm&biw=320&bih=460&prmd=sivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwidsuab-NnMAhVN2mMKHR0BBlMQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=p-F8Xw_mMX7kJM%3A

That's a TONY HAWK CHICKEN SKULL deck. ✌🏾😎
32”x11” sheet of grip is what you need
Great quality video too bad you don't have more subs props
Are local shop has clear and see through colored grip. So u can slap a couple stickers under neath .I slapped a skateboard isn't a crime.. scattered grip is a personal preference and it doesn't affect Ollie's.. or certain old school stuff
urgent question what size trucks do you use for 10 size deck
@Mustangandtang

BIG Wolf I would definitely go with independent 169mm trucks. They will measure out to about 9.75 inches, but old school wheels will add even more width to match a 10 inch deck. But wheels like mini cubics will add even more so if you plan on using really wide wheels, I would go with independent 159's.

BIG Wolf Depending on the shape 159s may work better on these old school decks. I typically ride 159s unless the board is more than 10.1 inches wide. If you're riding a board 10.25 inches wide or wider 169s will fit great.

9 to 9.3” axle. if using offset wheels eg rat bones, super juice, you could get away with 8.75” trucks. a smaller deck like the caballero would go with 159s, but i would use 169s because i like the turn of those trucks, plus more grind room.

I ride 169s on a 9.125 deck
FUCKIN CRISPY!!!!
I was going to buy an old school deck but my shop didn't have wide griptape and I don't like the other method.

Oh yea I agree. Using regular grip tape, cutting it, and laying it sideways doesn't look the best, and there is more opportunity for the grip to come up. I'm always shopping on socalskateshop.com as they offer wide grip tape with a 9 and 10 inch + wide decks. I always get 11 inch wide grip from them so I have a little extra room just in case I'm a little off when I put it on!
bro i just released that ur from vegas we should go skate nobody really skates shaped boardsss and fucking love them lets skate craig or sum

They were originally called Street decks and each deck was different back in the 80's and early 90's but now are called Oldschool deck or "Cruiser" decks because of the modern Popsicle.

Blood Eagle 88 yeah, my natas nose is pretty triangular tho.
An easier way is to use the file for the entire process. No need for the razor or using griptape to sand.
