Our trip to California starts in Sisters, OR for our friend Dylan from @Western Wild's surprise birthday camp! We took off south down highway 97 to Klamath National Forest just outside of Mt. Shasta for some forest road exploration and camping. This was our first turn overland trip in California, and we're looking forward to more in the future.

Oh man, we lost it at Cooper’s post bath face… and again with his new Porter inspired habit 😆. Great video you guys! So glad it worked out to join in the festivities on the way down.

Lol he was very mad at us for a while. Poor guy had a really rough trip that week…many more unfortunate circumstances for him after the poop roll 😂 It was a great time, 10/10 would celebrate again
I can't remember if it was this one or the Mt. Hood one where you talked about mosquitos. Definitely look at Thermacell. We trialed it about 3-4 years ago & never went back - even use them at our home on the back deck. I've lent my Radius to people for camping trips & BBQs & inevitably they go out and buy one afterwards. I particularly like the Radius & it's newer versions because they use electricity and a cartridge which is very storable and keeps for long periods without drying out, unlike their butane/mat versions (though I have 2 of those in the portable version for when I wander away from the tent, table or "kitchen" which are the 3 areas we typically protect.

We actually just started using a thermacell, it’s worked pretty well for us the two times we’ve used it. Would like to get the battery powered ones eventually
I am of the belief that you're never TRULY in a National Forest until you spot a cow or ten.
Looks like a great trip!

We were just talking about how Cooper and Chief need a campout! Cannoli told me to tell you to tell Cooper that he's "thinking about him all the time 😉"

We haven't explored the Shasta area much but it's been on the list. Always pass through but never stop! nate

That was us too! We’ve driven past so many times. I’m glad we made the time to do some exploring around there, it was absolutely worth it. And surprisingly we saw pretty much no one in the woods, even in some of the easier to get to areas
Most important thing is beer always haha awesome adventure guys

Always!
There was a news segment about a year ago regarding drug cartels and Hmongs that have illegal cannibus grow operations in the Mt. Shasta / Trinity areas. There has been reports of overlanders / campers alike being confronted by them or "potshots" at travelers.
Someone in Yreka was just trying to convince me I had to go see McCloud - can't say it looked all that exciting in your vid. Any opinion. I've typically kept west of the 5 down there but been thinking I need to check out the area East of 5 - though it's often way too HOT in the summer

The town was fine, not much to really see in the town that’s for sure. Surrounding area is incredible though!
I know dams can be one of those subjects that can get complicated, but I really do appreciate things being set back to how they naturally were.

I agree. It is definitely a highly political conversation, but it’s always nice to see some of these obsolete dams coming down. Or at least in this case, bringing back salmon.

Sure, keep taking out the dams that are creating the electric power you'll need for your electric car.

Did the guy say how the glacial runoff will impact the baby salmon?

Yes…I realized after publishing this that I cut the section talking about that (editing brain, ha) The WL&F worker was basically there for that reason and was telling us about his process every morning. Said it was killing a lot more of the eggs and hatchlings. Huge bummer
