Overhauling a 1974 Rolex Daytona 6263
Ойын-сауық
Manufactured in 1974 and worn daily this
ROLEX Daytona has been first overhauled in 1985 then in 1990, 1997 and 2007.
Today, after 46 years of service, it is overhauled for the fifth time.
The project goal is to keep all the original parts intact.
The Rolex Daytona 6263 is powered by Rolex Calibre 727 which is a modified Valjoux 72, first introduced in 1939.
When is comes to performance, the end result was beyond expectation. A healthy amplitude and great daily rate of just a few seconds. Especially taking into consideration Caliber 727 is non chronometer certified.
Rolex Daytona is a highly collectible timepiece and a $100,000 estimate is conservative.
Nicholas Hacko is a third generation master watchmaker and is proudly independent.

I've become strangely fascinated by these videos, it blows my mind how all those tiny parts are taken out and put back together again. It's actually quite therapeutic to watch 👏👏

Being lucky enough to own a 6263 makes me appreciate it much more after having seen this video...its like magic!
Two things blow my mind here. The first is that man can engineer such a thing in the first place, and the other is you have the talent to overhaul it. Bravo
I bought a Rolex Sea Dweller Double Red in 1976 and since then is on my wrist diving every year from recreational dives to very deep 80/100 mt it has been overhauled every 8/10 years trying to keep "all" parts original and its thanks to people like you that I'm still wearing it and enjoying it

Man… love that music! Takes me back to collage jazz ensemble! Great display of craftsmanship Sir!!
Watching skilled craftsmanship against a backdrop of incredible music is a great start to the morning.
An awesome demonstration of excellence in watchmaking!Thank you for the viewing priviledge!😮
You know watch nerdery has skewed your perspective when you're watching this and thinking, "those are some beefy screws!"

You cannot argue with this watchmakers ability! You can tell by the precision, attention to detail and the good practices he is adopting that he is a master watchmaker. I suggest you guys take a good look because not many people will do it better than this man.

What are all the screws in the balance-wheel for, not all the watches you show have them, is there a reason?
@luckys1227
3 жыл бұрын
@@johnrideout7124 Older balance wheels used weight screws around the rim to adjust the poise (balance), but modern wheels are computer-poised at the factory, using a laser to burn a precise pit in the rim to make them balanced. ... Their rate is adjusted by weight screws on the balance rim.
Vintage watches are so much cooler then the new ones available today, love the work you did on this Daytona!

@Rocky Dog Yes, there are some wonderful modern calibres being made today. And yes, it is hard to improve on perfection, but over the past 300 years, there have been some small advances. Think George Daniels Co-Axial escapement. That is not vintage by any means.
That was so Wonderfull to watch! Great presentation too - Thanks

Happened to me with a Pockets watch, dissassembled it and when i tried to put it together at the "end" i still had 2 small screws and a medium one. Didn't knew where they went and gifted the watch to a friend cause he liked it Even if it was not working
Its a classic watch. Congratulations, great job buddy
These are so relaxing to watch! Amazing skill and craftsmanship here, My favorite part is when the watch starts beating again for the first time.
Love the patina on the hands and subdials. That movement is also quite something. Great work as always.
Watching this again and again. Lovely watch and great restoration work done.
Love watching these videos. Mesmerizing. Thank you
Just when I kinda understood all the parts in a three-hander. Amazing.
most satisfying thing i saw today and the music was so in place ... excellent work of art
It is fantastic to see a fine watch like that being cared for by its owner who also wears the thing as it is meant to be worn.
I'm always amazed how it comes apart. Then how it goes back together.
OMG..!!!! SO COMPLICATED & SO CLEAN MOVEMENT LOVE IT

I recall being in a Florence jewellers in early 2000's and asking if they had any watches of interest. They came out with a 6263 watch head which was in working order and they wanted 7k euros for it. I passed. Kicked myself ever since. Beautiful video
I couldn’t afford the service, but I still appreciate his talent. Lucky owner.
Thank you for the video, always very satisfying to see a master at work!. I want to learn watch making, I am a Cnc machinist and very mechanicly inclined. been doing that for 24 years. I bought some project watches and some tools to start learning, I am planning on buying some books as well. I don’t want to change trades, I love what I do,but it would be nice some day to work on the side for a watchmaker like you. Subscribed!
jazz e blues é muito bom cara..........
Thank you
Rolex can learn a great deal from delving into their history the time when watches were bought by customers who appreciated their watches and not the current farce where timepieces are hoarded and supply is restricted and crazy prices are paid for certain models - customers are paying way above RRP on the Grey Market.
A master piece
What a nice, chunky, robust movement where a screw looks like one, not like a pin head.
Wonderful as ever.. Would have loved to see the chrono pusher seals etc.. Don't get me wrong, nit picking for I was lost in the movement once again. Thanks
Very skilful and meticulous. A1
wow now i want one
Rolex Daytona, are beautiful watches inside and out.
I can't even remember what the watch looked like, piecing that back together needs some concentration!
That is one complex movement !
absolutely beautiful. I have an older 16800 that is in need of a service , I wish I could afford to send it to you. But lIfe is life. ups and downs.
Once again, amazing video with an amazing timepiece. What's the last song playing?
So many views yet so few subscribers! Come on guys, get behind this fellow.
I can watch these all day I cant figure out why. Fascinating , wish I'd taken up this trade. For nine years I wore a 96 two tone datejust with white dial , roman numerals , smooth bezel. Slipped while cliff diving bashed it against the rocks , didnt even scratch it , never missed a beat. Ultimately it was stolen from my walk in closet safe in a break in , broke my heart , havent been able to afford another rolex but I have a watch case with a Tag Formula one , Rado ceramic , Casio solar , a cheap Citizen thats kept flawless time for ten years, a $30 Timex I cant throw away , a Chinese Submariner with a Harley logo on the bottom hahaha, and a $120 fake Rolex from Bangkok with a porceline bezel and saphire crystal and a flawless sweephand that has fooled mulitudes of people. I know Im gonna end up borrowing ten grand to buy an old Presidential , that watch fascinates me.
I'm glad to have found your channel. You do amazing work. Is that blue alcohol you use to clean the hands. ?
Hi. What liquid did you use to help cleaning the hands? Thanks :)

Sadly (pretty much) everything you do for money creates stress.. Something you do to relax is fun, when you do it to pay the bills it starts to create pressure
Very nice video. What about the tiny scratches on the movement parts that you can't avoid? Are they a problem? Or are there even any? Greetings from Switzerland

VH Not true. The Zenith El Primero movement came out in 1969. Rolex later entered into a deal with Zenith and adopted the movement for the Daytona, cutting the beat rate from 36K to 28.8K.
How do you know what time to set the hands to, during re-assembly? I would think that if you were off, the date would roll at some random time during the day, instead of around midnight. I have watched many of these videos on your channel, and others. But I have not picked up on the step that sorts out the time.
@osutips
3 жыл бұрын
You first "set the time" but without the hands on until the date change. You then put the hand on at midnight and it's all calibrated.
The precision at which you move your tools is impressive. I would have loved some narration on some background on some of the movement. For example, how it's different than a typical Valjoux 72. There's a better finish, at least, including polishing and machine turned finish.
