U1 Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh is definitely in my top 5. I love this module and have run it as 1st edition, converted to 2nd edition, and the 5th edition Ghosts of Saltmarsh.

N1 Against the cult of the reptile god, it has its faults but I love this adventure. Forty years later one of my fond roleplaying memories is our party spending a night in The Golden Grain Inn.

My top 3 - G1-3 Against the Giants, Scourge of the Slavelords (A1-4), Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh. I DMed these modules more than any other, and they are the easiest to include into any campaign.

Ravenloft was that high on the list? How?! That one revolutionized adventure design and is STILL a blast to play. As you 2 have done your deep dives into classic adventures, it has been very informative for us to hear game designers talk the nuts and bolts of how it was done and how to do it.

The Eye of the Serpent gets some love. I had a lot of fun with the UK modules and this one is if not a railroad is a valley run. Great fun despite the crazy Intro. No adventure hooks needed. We had a ton of fun play with Pharaoh and Cult of the Reptile God. We had fun with Tamochan and Tsojcanth though we played Tamochan as a stand alone, a couple times. Tsojcanth was fun cause we played the whole thing in one day like 11 AM till 1 AM. It was my first time to have my 6th level MU use his lightning Bolt outdoors against a massive army (or two). Not as big a fan of Village of Hommlet. We never had any trouble with Orlane. I played it once and DMed it twice. Enjoyed Keep on the Borderland more. I got a lot of play out of Tegel Manor a massive Judge's Guild haunted house and my group had a ton of fun. I have sense populated the Monastery, the Pirates Tower, the Temple Of Tsothoggus and added another dungeon to the map , oh and the Black Dragon of Derfingel Marsh. It makes my Top Ten Lists. The Secret of Bone Hill was again one of my groups favourites. Sinister Salt Marsh is Great. Our Party failed Miserably trying to figure out the mystery though in the following modules. Same Problem with the Assassin's knot. We weren't a clever party. We never got through The Fire Giants Lair. Two separate TPK's with two completely different groups.

For me, Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth is my all time favorite classic dungeon crawl. As you mention, that final encounter is fantastic. When I DMed it only 2 characters survived that encounter and they had 7 hp between the two of them. I would have loved to see a Goodman Games OAR edition of that one. Cheers!

One thing to remember about a lot of early adventures is the expected number of characters and varying levels. N1 (Reptile God) expected a party of 4-7 characters of levels 1-3. I have seen others like UK1 (Beyond the crystal caves) that was for 5-10 characters level 3-6. 10 players? I guess people had more free time back then. I feel lucky if I can get the same three people to show up 3 sessions out of 5. Of course some people could double or triple up. And just because it's the trend on this thread... My to three 1. Treasure Hunt - First time getting to play 0 level characters - Super fond memories of this one. 2. Keep on the Borderlands - A great adventure to learn "Basic" DnD. 3. Temple of the Frog - I had no idea the adventure itself was such a slow read till I bought my own copy. I just remember it being a hoot to play.

My Top 3: #3: I6--Ravenloft (epic in all categories, only down side is the Tatyana storyline/ending which I find a bit flat as it does not involve the PCs, it's something I generally leave out). #2: B4: The Lost City (I've modded this one to death and I am getting ready to run the GG edition for a new group, I love the sandboxy feel and different choices PCs can make like alliances with the factions). #3: U1: The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh (I;ve run this a dozen times and it never gets old, only downside is the village of Saltmarsh is not detailed enough but that's it--a perfect low-level adventure!). Keep up the great vids guys!

Top three? Third place: The Isle of Dread. I love the setting. We were finally out of the dungeon! 🤣 Second place: Against The Giants. Granted it's three modules in one (I have the tournament edition), but I do love the settings, and I love the story and how it ties together. First place: Threshold of Evil from Dungeon magazine #10. It was the best representation of an archmage I've ever seen. An incredible amount of thought went into the archmage and his lair. Seriously. If you haven't played it, please find it and play it.

S4... despite it being a bit of a monster hotel, it is easily the most fun our group ever had. It was also pretty brutally deadly! lol I think that adventure killed off like 6 characters by the time we were done. Great fun and great memories. :-)

My top 3 include the Veiled Society (because it did something different and despite it's flaws really brought the drama), Zanzer's Dungeon from the Black Box set ( have ran it at least 8 times and it's a blast every time), and it is impossible to not include Ravenloft. It does too many things too well and has too much replayability to not make the short list. Honorable mentions include the Lost City (it just leaves too much undone, but the concept is amazing), Fires of Dis for Planescape), and B2.

I think it has to do with the popularity of Lord of the Ring and the obscurity of Dying Earth today. Very few D&D players I have run with or for have read any Jack Vance. I am in my 40s.

The ratings are missing: Original Loot. Not sure adding a single new category would rejigger your scoring enough to cause rank changes. Could bump Expedition up, or maybe White Plume Mountain make it into the top 10?

Hi, have you played or run, or know anyone who has played or run Bruce Cordell's Return to Tomb of Horrors? I never ran or played it, but it looked absolutely amazing and lethal! The handouts, art, and storyline looked like a ton of fun. I would love to hear your review of it, let alone what it was like to play or run.
