Our TMR Chassis Build

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome to the official start of building our 4800 Legends Class car! After many discussions and much planning, we partnered with TMR Customs and quickly received our TMR Race Chassis. Although "some assembly required," the diy chassis was uncrated and ready for assembly. In this video we break ground on the 4800 car and get our TMR Chassis all together.
A special thanks to TMR Customs! Without them and their support, we wouldn't be building another car. Make sure and check out their other off-road necessities!

We'll see you in the next one!

Definitely a great start, love to see you doing it like any normal racer would have to build it. Can't wait to see it come alive on the race course

Make sure they are level, use wedges to rise o lower the tubes.

Nice to see you doing this, I plan to learn how to weld and do the exact same thing you're doing once I buy a house. Keep up the great work

also have you thought as far ahead of axle combinations, engine and transmission?

Yes. I’ll be posting future videos on this. But we have a LQ9 with TH400 for motor and trans with S&S Fabrication’s fabricated 9” both front and rear. Should be a good combo and allow for upgrades as we grow.

Just curious but what was the material cost to build this chassis without time and labor added? Although not the same but similar I would like to build a tube chassis for a custom drag / time attack car. Thanks.

TMR Customs sells the chassis as an individual chassis without brackets and mounts, or you could add them all together and make a full kit. We didn’t do the full kit as we utilized other sponsors. However, we didn’t have much to add as far as bracing and didn’t have to worry about bending tubing as it was already done for us. From that standpoint, it was cheaper than starting with 2” DOM and engineering/designing our own chassis. Especially at the time, tubing was almost $10 per foot here. With a custom drag car, you could probably use smaller tubing and come out cheaper, but the added time would probably triple, as well as additional tooling required. We weighed out our options prior, I’d recommend the same and see which is more appealing. Hope this helps.

I am looking into building a ultra4 car/truck why did you decide to build a 4800 class vs just stepping up from 4600 to 4500 class seams like to be competitive it would be more expensive?

Honestly, I’ve always wanted to build a full chassis and by doing so you’re not limited as you would be in a 4500 car. You still have to run portions of the stock frame rails in 4500 class. Building either or will cost about the same if you build them right. In my case the opportunity presented itself, so I ran with it.

How does one rust proof the inside of the tubing after its all welded up?

  • @FSUOffRoad

Most of tubes are coated with oil. Once you weld them up, that's it. They shouldn't be exposed to the elements which should hinder any rusting.
