If I'm not mistaken, a K98k with FMJ ammo can blow through a modern k-pot, pop the wearer's head, and then blow out the other side of the helmet. Ridiculously powerful rifle. Same for all the other bolt-action service rifles of the time.

My grandfather who was in Vietnam, advising ARVN logistics troops was given a kar98k by a village, he then gave it to my father, and after some research, we found out that that rifle had been manufactured in 1939, and had probably seen 40 years of combat. That has to be one of the strangest things about the Vietnam war, you had everything from mg42s to aks, and everything in between.

As a kid back in the 90s, I was taken in by my uncle, who was a Vietnam vet. He had taken my cousin and I up north here in Michigan from Detroit so we could go on vacation, and he brought an entire truck full of gun cases lol. I remember he had some old carbine rifle that he brought home from Vietnam, it looked like a Gewehr-43 or an SKS from what I remember. He taught me how to shoot that week, and that old thing was the first thing I used that wasn't a common bolt-action hunting rifle. There was something magnificent about what looked like such an old and weathered rifle, with most of the wooden furniture looking worn as if it had seen all different manner of owners - some careful, some careless, some fighters. That was the only time I ever saw him take that thing out to shoot, and I always appreciated that. It gave me a lot of respect for rifles as weapons of war and not just tools for hunting. It made me look at that rifle safe a lot differently when I was 12.

Even in death, you're a true gentleman.
you might already know this but something i learned from sim racing (that probably seems counter intuitive but could help with sniping when you don't know your range) if you have your FOV set to match the real world chunk of your actual eyeballs' FOV that your monitor is taking up, you get some sense of depth perception. this makes hills actually look like hills, etc. if you have some semblance of depth perception, you can more accurately guess ranges. so running a narrower FOV not only zooms the picture you're seeing, it also makes your eyes see your monitor more like a window than a monitor if that makes sense. there are calculators online for this very thing.
@the_real_Kurt_Yarish
8 ай бұрын
What would one put into a search bar to find these calculators? Or do you have a specific calculator to suggest?
@Dethmeister
8 ай бұрын
Seems like I've heard of that before. How do you do it? **Edit** Ok, I looked for "setting fov to match screen" and several videos came up to explain it. Cool, I'll try it. The only problem is I don't stay the same distance from my screen when I'm playing Arma 3. I'm always leaning in and out. But it should be interesting to try in a racing sim.
@a2e5
8 ай бұрын
it makes sense: you don't get an extra eyeball, but at far enough there's no little parallax anyways so depth becomes mostly about size. and FOV-matching makes sizes just right!

What's crazy is you still see those German weapons in areas where Soviet weapons are used - A few years ago, they found entire caches of STG44s, MG42s, etc. in Syria, and there are videos of them being used in combat by ISIS.

You dont realize the advantage of just having a second pair of eyes to scan for you. Had some amazing convos while just sitting on a bluff chattin with someone i was spotting for, heh.
At the end I was trailing you two by about 5m luckily. Saw you blow sky high and slowly crept backwards out of that minefield and disappeared into the bush.
I wish more people realized how much more fun arma is in the S.O.G/ vietnam era, gun play feels so much more satisfying when you dont have to shoot someone in the chest 4-5 times for them to go down
I was part of the small group that kept trying to get up that shoreline. In the end only two of us (RTO/me and the SL) and we were trying to be super stealthy. It was awesome swimming across the water to flank you guys from the side!

As a South East Asian, there's rule for guerilla warfare for us: #1 Make a route through the thickest forest, don't do shortcut through the open filed. #2 If you meet the enemy, do not gather together in one spot, but spreads and surrounding the enemy. #3 If you want to runaway, chose different directions from each other, but make sure you keep running in the thick forest, and then garther again at the meeting point that has been comunicated before.
Honestly, you're also providing those gamers down on the beach with an incredible immersive experience. Picking up your wounded buddy and being missed by mere inches and the bullet hitting the log beside you... damn.

You can do or play anyway you want, on countless different maps(some, most, well over hundreds of square miles large), men, vehicles, areal, sea, arms large and small, tens of not hundreds of thousands of mods available, countless different built-in game modes and modded game modes (DayZ itself began as an Arma 2 mod, everyone's heard of DayZ lol)....buy it on sale, get the combo pack.

Gotta love when Drew uploads another sniping video
Great video as always. Keep up the great work!
I own a relatively rare K98K with matching numbers and the during the war retrofitted original ZF41 scope - The combo which I guess is used here. The scope is only 1.5x with a German Post Reticle and is less sniper scope than DMS, no windage adjustment. The scope is hard to zero and the optic is, well let's say "according to it's age". The place where it's mounted on the rifle makes the setup almost the first Scout Rifle. But she is a pleasurer to shoot, especially with handloaded ammo. Good work, Mr Drewski! The animations are incredible accurate.
Thank you so much for zooming in the camera because the rest of the time I couldn’t see Jack I’m blind lmao please keep that as a feature in any videos like this in the future made it so much easier to watch also great video man
Thank you for zooming in! I watch on my phone, and it helps a lot for the action. 👍

Having everyone armed with a long range weapon is not at all a good idea. What wins fights is fire supioriority. I.E. high volumes of fire. The Wehrmacht against Soviets found this out. The U.S. already tried this in Vietnam with the M14, but went with the M16 when rounds down range is what gets out of ambushes and makes advances possible. In WWII, the big reason why U.S. soldiers had a decent advantage over the Wehrmacht was because the M1 had such a higher fire rate then the K98. Besides, long range rifles are becoming moot with the increasing relevence of vehicles, aircraft and precision artillery.
