    It's kinda crazy to me how so many AAA game companies still haven't picked up on how popular survival games like Dayz are, and instead of iterating on the formula to deliver a game that would blow DayZ standalone out the water in a week (Purely from lacking jank), They instead announce a quirky BR that everyone hates and then it get canceled before it even releases.

    I don't think you're giving enough credit, or you're kinda overlooking how hard is it to make a game like DayZ. With Arma they had so many elements to make a survival game already and it still ''has jank'', but that's not through incompetence, it's just through the amount of things in play that get overlooked IMO. In other words making a survival game on that scale is a LOT harder than you're giving credit for. DayZ has so many features and little tidbits nobody ever considers that are all but unthinkable if you just tried to extrapolate them on an existing AAA ''base'', not least how sound acts and the distances you can hear things (like, 3+ kms). If you just took IDK...a BR title, and tried to make it like DayZ, it would probably fail catastrophically without a huge amount of work and even then there's no guarantees it would surpass it. Tarkov for example took one small part of DayZ (the PVP), has barely any players per instance on a small map (relative to DayZ), some A.I, no vehicles, basebuilding or a laundry list of other factors to consider, and is still extremely janky and didn't even have VOIP until recently. Sure it's not AAA, but it does highlight how much is involved development wise. Plus can you really trust an AAA studio to deliver a game that isn't just Ghost Recon with a survival mod tacked on or some weird watered down survival experience that lacks the grit of DayZ? I wouldn't. /essay over

    It's still crazy to me that both BI and the DayZ devs themselves haven't realized this themselves, pretty much just coasting along, milking a once great name and doing nothing to the absolute bare minimum to pretend they're doing something to improve what's been here for half a decade (half a decade of the same, clearly more than 10yrs of DayZ). Changing can opening sounds and finally returning one single old weapon we used to have out of the 20+ still missing, isn't what I would consider "work".

    Hey Drewski, at around 12:25 you were talking about wanting the game to have some sort quests and that would be pretty cool, but I just wanted to take a second to bring up some other maps that do have objectives (feels like a quest tbh), where you have to go to different parts of the map and search for certain items to progress which is pretty cool. The biggest one is called Namalsk, which is a snowy map that makes the game even more hardcore, with almost all food needing to be thawed, fighting against the cold, stuff like that. The map also has a sort of progression where you can eventually jump into a portal and go to an alien planet where the crazy loot spawns, but in order to even get there you need to do a shit ton of other stuff (like crafting the space suit needed to go there), it's actually a pretty cool experience. I would definitely recommend it if you plan on playing more DayZ in the future.

    12:25 thats why DayZ epoch was so INSANELY popular when it came out, DayZ mod had the problem of no endgame, if you were straped then you where done, all you could do was kill people, in epoch tho you could do Missions against AI, get all kinds of loot, from weapons to food to base building mats, and at very hard mission even armed vehicles depending on the server.

    Epoch killed DayZ. It split the playerbase and killed the purpose of the original DayZ. In the end it became a repetitive PvP only thing were only the same stories could ve experienced. I'm not critisizing mods in general, since many of them can be very good, but to me servers and gamemodes like Epoch always will be something that will eventually ruin the game, since it completely destroys the feeling of high stakes, rare PvP and survival. Like I said, it needlessly splits the player base and therefore kills the respective game, because it provides gameplay that can be had LITERALLY anywhere else, so many basebuilding pvp games out there. People forget that they can make their own stories in vanilla dayz, their own characters. So many different ways to experience the game. Roleplay, Cold mods, hardcore survival, etc. Epoch and gamemodes like it have almost nothing to do with what made DayZ so good.

  • @chaotikkiller1617

    @@Momo14198 DayZ is inherently a base building PvP game though with a lack of content, Epoch was made to add to it and was very well received because of it. The direct issue is that there ISN'T a lot of ways to experience the game hence why Epoch was created lol.

  • @Momo14198

    @Momo14198

    7 ай бұрын

    @@chaotikkiller1617 This is not true. OP was talking about the mod and back then dayz was not a basebuilding pvp game. But even today it still isnt. It is a survival game. What epoch does isnt just add new content, it takes away the one thing that dufferentiates dayz from other survival game by adding many weapons, improve spawns, generally making the game way easier therefore removing many survival aspects of it. It removes most strategy from pvp and basically transforms DayZ into a game similar to Rust. So yes, Epoch does add some content to basebuilding but it indirectly removes much of the content DayZ was built around.I can guarantee you, Epoch might be fun for one week or two, up until your base gets destrpyed or you grow bored of easily attainable PVP matches and weapons, but on a survival Namalsk or Chernarus Winter server, there are many, many more interesting stories to be had. 100s of hours of content if you are interested in creating it. On survival servers I had random team ups that lasted for hours just surviving against the cold, hunting bears and reaching the military bases in the peaks. I once had a character that lasted literal real life weeks without being seen once, just sniping people from afar. In Namalsk I have endless interesting stories of people betraying you at the water fountain or having to kill others just to chop them up and eat them. Just... try it out. That was the original vision the creator of the mod had for the game and it is beautiful. Gamemodes like Epoch remove all those stories and turn it into every survival game ever.

    14:31 is one of the reasons I can't wait for new technologies to come to these games. You can CLEARLY see if someone is far away because of the absence of foliage and grass. But somehow you can hardly see if someone's closeby .

    Bro please do more vids like this. Its great watching someone play this game like this just stalking and sitting around and not just cutting to the players coming back to base but the time between it give a more natural feel to how dayz is really played. And the fact its not too much action and not to little this is the perfect dayz video
