What Kyle said: $500 purchase price, $5000 in vet bills. Not everyone can take that on. I have my foster horse and he is already costing a lot in vet bills on the beginning, but he is definitely worth it. People also need to understand when you take on a horse or any animal, it is a huge commitment. It is not for everyone.

While this can be true my heart horse actually came from an auction and I bought her for $475. She has had no health issues and is honestly such an amazing horse.

I think you're exactly right in the way you go about purchasing horses. Auctions are always a gamble so you have to know exactly what you're looking for & what you're willing to spend. I just want to thank you, I’ve owned horses for 7 years and this weekend I purchased my first ever auction horse and your videos really helped me with picking the right horse and not getting carried away with all of those horses who need lots of TLC but aren’t what I can commit to. I ended up with a 2 year old Connemara x Warmblood filly who is registered and well handled only been owned by her breeders previously and I purchased her at a steal for $550 Australian dollars!

I used to have horses in South Carolina 35years ago and bought 3 out of 5 from horse traders. Back then, I paid between $200 to $300 for them. One part Arabian mare was pregnant and had our first foal. That mare threw her head up and was hard for an adult to ride. She was very gentle and rode nicely with a child on her back. From watching your videos, I now see that she probably had spine issues. I took very good care of my horses, and only learned from horse magazines. Thanks for all you do.

That horse at the end before you left looked like it was kinda sad to see you go and why you didn't want him/her. I know but I'm glad you are going to another one. Haven't seen Black Beauty the film, but read Black Beauty the book when I was a wee girl. I soooo recommend it! Fab story! It's written by Anna Sewell in 1877, which is when, incidentally, my house was built. ;-)

I personally like how choosy you are. Too many people buy animals of all types with their heart and feelings or on complete impulse….both of which are the wrong ways to make such commitments. You’re educating people on so much more than just the horse…your message and ethos are highly commendable and I think you’re doing a fantastic job of getting the right message out there! Black Beauty was a great book! I found Black Beauty's story awful and sad but it made me a huge animal rights activist. It is a great read for children for sure. However, what made me fall in love with horses was The Black Stallion series. I have read and read and read that book so many times that I have had to replace it a good half a dozen times. Finally I just bought it on my Kindle. I really love the spirit of that book because it speaks to the bond that can form between human and a basically wild animal.

I'm really glad, you're being a responsible and sensible example to potential horse buyers watching this. A horse is a huge commitment, it shouldn't be an 'impulse buy'. Which to some degree is unavailable with auctions as it is. No need to add to that, by having your head in the clouds and forgetting all about practical considerations. And it's completely understandable, that you can't just go around buying every cute horse you see, even if it doesn't fit into your business concept. I really admire your restraint, in going home empty handed repeatedly, if you can't find the right horse at those auctions. Thay being said, I do hope, you get lucky soon! It's great fun to share your excitement 🙂

I don’t think you need to justify your reasons why you are picky and thorough at choosing a specific horse. Your mission statement explains clearly enough your purpose and why you do what you do. I based my subscribing to your channel bc I believed in your mission, passion and insights into the equine industry. The right horse will come along very soon I m sure. I trust your instincts. I see, already the choices and success you have had and have created. You have two foals that will be taking up your time for years to come at the moment. And Mushu is still green, so lots of work still with him. And there are the two seniors that may live many more years which is a huge commitment. So far so good with your program, your business enterprises, your choices, your researching and development of the bitless bridles, the continued improvement of the farm, investing in and creating healthy happy horses and moving most of them along to fully vetted forever homes. I congratulate you on your continued success, compassion, your energy and intelligence on your business skills! I m enjoying your sharing of your adventure, your journey with these choices of your life. Kudos to both of you! As a side note, I have noticed and I appreciate Kyle’s support and improvement on riding and horse knowledge too. For someone who didn’t grow up in the horsey set in his youth, he certainly has some good horse sense now! You are a breath of fresh air! A couple who are following their dreams, supporting and loving each other with heart and soul. Also, being transparent in thinking forward, positive energy, you show how giving and caring in sharing your journey, a way we can all aspire and inspire others to be present in the moment, being honest and being trustworthy is a good, healthy thing. Some people do the adopting thing from horse rescues but I've heard nightmares from doing that too. So I do agree with you. You need to be picky and not end up with a lame horse. Plus getting a horse thats blind or lame or old, really can be heart breaking in the end too. My heart wouldn't be able to handle all of that.

Yes I don’t like that system as much. There is never a perfect model, but some rescues have very high return rates.

I do appreciate your auction videos. They have turned out to be very educational for me personally. With a lot of experience comes knowledge that others simply don’t have - even if he or she might be an experienced rider. I personally only have been to horse auctions as a child. So for me a lot was very new. And I really appreciate Shae and Kyle taking us along to learn more, see beautiful horses and be entertained!

Shae, its not about buying a horse for us. We are learning from you. When you comment on the horses and give us your opinion we are really paying attention. In fact, if you could go to these auctions and maybe talk to me like Im five pointing out everything you see I would soooo appreciate it. For instance, when you mentioned that one horse had a hump back if you could have pointed it out so that we could see it for ourselves that would be incredible! Regardless, I am still learning and avidly following everything you are doing. I want a horse of my own but I take animal ownership probably too seriously. I want to know everything there is to know and have everything completely set up before I even think about bringing the animal to my home. Im still in the researching stage but so far your channel has been really helpful and Im not as overwhelmed as other channels make me feel. Its like you are really down to earth whereas most horse trainers are actually a bit snide and snotty. Im a forever fan at this point!

I so do get you about your approach buying auction horses, no need to apologise whatsoever. My learning became with the years, trying to rescue a horse is a huge commitment it is not only about the money but your emotional well-being as well: it broke my heart numerous times if you got beyond what you've done and it didn't end well.
