RE: PAUSING, EXPRESSIONS & AIR-INSTRUMENTS:
Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. We are expressive by nature and are truly very quirky in every sense of the word. This is who we are and this is what we’ve got to offer. We understand it may not be for everyone, but here's to hoping you all enjoy and we absolutely love positive comments and feedback.

So when you watch Esbjorn play, he gets his face inches from the keys and almost crawls into the piano and actually does reach in there to make different sounds and piano effects. The predominant synth sound you hear is the bass player. Dan has so many crazy sounds he can make with his upright bass.

This guy's music was my first introduction to European jazz. I've been more grateful for that than any other musical exposure I've ever had in my life. I own copies of nearly his entire discography as a result. The bassist Dan Berglund and the drummer Magnus Ostrom formed a new trio in recent years with Bugge Wesselthoft called Rymden. Well worth a listen; a spiritual successor to EST, you might say. Also, Magnus Ostrom has played with almost innumerable other worthwhile jazz musicians from primarily Scanadinavia.

Unfortunately Esbjorn Svensson the pianist/composer died 2 years after the release of this album in a scuba diving accident he was only 44 just imagine all the music that could have been but the albums we have will live forever. Pat Metheny played a song at a tribute event for him. They had played together before.🙏🏽✌🏽❤️

What he is dead? I missed that. He was together with the Swedish Jazz-singer Victoria Tolstoy (who is related to the author) and so called blooming stars on the Jazz-scene. Met him once at a Jazzclub in Visby,,, He was very friendly, and I was in a gang of young Studying music and was kinda there to study him... He was great and his Trio of course. Of course I met Victoria Tolstoy as well.

Thanks for your suggestion! It´s so sad, that he died so young. I discovered them one or two years before this accident and think they were one of the best jazz trios of the 2000´s. I wanted so much to see them live but there was no chance anymore. The live recordings with Pat Metheny in Salzau, Germany in 2003 were great! Watch out for "Dodge the Dodo".

Absolutely brilliant! EST revitalized the jazz piano trio in the 21st century. Outstanding musicianship that evolved from jazz tradition into a new and very contemporary take on live improvised jazz and attracted an audience much broader than normal. I saw them live five times and every time was different and totally exhilarating. The untimely death of Esbjorn is one of the greatest tragedies of all time.

They were on the cover of Downbeat, had just started to be recognized all over the world, after so many years of struggling and working. And then the tragic diving-accident, that put an end to it. Esjbjorn loved to bathe and swim. One magic and totally unic trio during my lifetime.

You could compare with another earlier Swedish jazz pianist (and who also died suddenly in an accident) Jan Johansson (1931-1968). Try "Emigrantvisa" or "Visa fran Utanmyra" both based on old folk music.

Esbjörn Svensson, one of the greatest Swedish Jazz pianists of his time...incredible dexterity on the keyboard and sadly taken from us too young. His contemporary from Finland, Iiro Rantala, created this beautiful piece, 'Tears for Esbjörn' kzread.info/dash/bejne/dGiEypadfLStgbQ.html, in memory of him. Glad you are exploring some other jazz greats.

e.s.t. was extremely influential. In the late 90's they invented a completely new style of jazz piano trio music, which almost every new trio copied in the following 15 years. :-)

Really cool that you guys are exploring E.S.T. Definitely pioneers of modern jazz. Some of my favorites from them are Eighty Eight days in my Veins, The Wraith, Seven Days of Falling, Elevation of Love, Eight Hundred Streets by Feet, Beyond the Yasmak (he has a live performance with Pat Methany on youtube of this). For some other great modern jazz groups, check out Gogo penguin, Mammal Hands, Hiromi Uehara, Bad Plus, Neil Cowley trio, Kneebody, Avishai Cohen trio, Tigran Hamasyan, Phronesis, Brad Mehldau, Alfa Mist, Portico Quartet.

I got pleasure from seeing this group in Montreal, it was amazing. this trio has influenced a lot of jazz trio with this genre. the pianist uses a lousy pedal on the piano and the bassist of the distortion and wawa. unfortunately a tragic accident of the pianist. Pat Metheny is a guest on a live play found on KZread.

I had read about EST in the "jazz corner" of my eclipsed magazine, never heard before, but I like it ... will have to check out more. Esbjörn Svensson was twice elected Swedish Jazz musician of the year. Other than that, it's been a great weekend for new releases: Neal Morse Band released Innocence and danger, album with great variety and the next Neal Morse Prog-Epos, of the prog bands I know, Neal Morse is the man with most epics longer than 20 minutes, I'm counting 9 by now with Transatlantic and Neal Morse Band, not counted the ones, he realeased with Spocks Beard. Jinjer - Wallflowers, not everybody's taste, but if you like modern metal with a fantastic female singer, you should listen to the titletrack and Vortex. Ad Infinitum - a Swiss Symphonic Metal Band with another good female singer So Jazz fans with a wide range of music taste - go for it :-)
