Our First Off Road Motorcycle Trip Together (so much fun)

Yesterday we were gifted with a beautiful day so we decided to film our 90-mile Green Laning loop in the Peak District. The first of many off road motorcycle adventures together on our CRF300L and CRF300 Rally.

    I would never have guessed that you had only been riding for a month. Riding off-road is quite different to riding on-road because you can’t guarantee that the grip will be constant. For that reason many experienced road riders find it hard to cope when the bike starts moving beneath them. You’re way beyond that position, well done. If you are unable to ride at the speed that you need to ride at because there’s somebody slow ahead, stop. Wait until you have a clear run then start again. If you’re that competent after a month it won’t be long before you’re up to tackling anything. If you want to see how people improve watch the Itchy Boots series where she flies to South Africa after the Covid lockdown. Noraly found riding on sand particularly difficult but after a bit of advice and a lot of practise it all came together. Look at her now. Everyone has to learn and you’ve made a great start. I was lucky, I rode on grass and mud for years before I could legally ride on the road. By going off-road so early in you motorcycling life you should progress faster than if you had spent years riding on grippy tarmac. 🙂🙂

    What a fun video! And I can relate, as last weekend I got myself for the first time on proper trails! If you can I'd highly recomend attending to ABR Festival, here in the UK- there are tons and tons of likeminded people, mostly motorcyclists, who ride trails, travel on the bikes, or both, and more! I attended two so far and it was a blast!

    Someone's been binge watching c90 adventures and Itchyboots huh? Haha! I'm new to the channel, not really into van life, (I respect it) but I'm bike crazy! Watching Martha's excitement for riding is like going back 30 years for me. You're both a lot of fun, love the support and enthusiasm from Mitch. Looking forward to what comes next. Martha, you're doing great. See if you can focus more on your triumphs and let yourself be ok with making mistakes. You're doing incredible for a brand new rider! Cheers from USA!

    stay in the rut your in , never try to cross rut halfway down a trial , if you have to slow right down and try and make a tight turn , aim for 90 degrees to reduce washing the front. also never go round a blind corner on the righthand side , somebody could be coming towards you. if you have the budget get a airbag for mad martha as learning to ride dirt you will fall quite a lot and dont want you to get injured. Pretty good skills so far , enjoy yourselves

    Really enjoying this journey of yours, Martha you don’t need an enduro pro , even tho you may think you do, you need Mitch , what a great instructor, you just need to ride, not lessons, most motorcycle adventurists don’t do what you have done and it will get easier and become second nature, don’t waste your money and stop apologising , now is the prime to to flog that van and start your adventures, tour the uk and Scotland , wales wherever just ride. Get the UK summer outta the way, I’ve heard it will be nice with no rain for 3 days in July 🤣🤣🤣 and then head to warmer climes in Autumn.

    I have been watching since you started the bike thing. Very good videos..very impressed with your progress so far so fast. (I very been riding off road since I was 7, so 48 years) I can honestly say you are natural. One tip for your run away throttle is to always have the pointy finger on the front brake (&clutch) ALL the time. It restricts your forearm from as much rotation in the wrist and so stops the whisky throttle. Will be painful to do for a while but will be easier and more natural over time. 2nd tip for this time of the years ... where trousers that go over the boots asit stops the water going in the top. Enjoy 😊

Mitch you are being a great teacher but please remind Martha to ride on the left on the trails especially around blind bends. They could be another bike coming the opposite way much faster and the time to react won't be there just yet. Drop your pace a bit especially in the ruts and slop while you are learning 👍

I've wondered before when watching your earlier videos from some of his clothing whether he was into bikes or a skater 😅 I've rode Mx on and off most my life and what he's teaching is perfect body positioning 👍🏼 Just got to stop yourself from tensing up when you start panicking and gripping the throttle and whiskeying, grip with your legs. Enjoyed that. The bikes sound really good and tight. For the riding school, it may be a good idea to rent their bikes, as they are lighter and less loaded and have the carbon fibre engine protector. It's great that you guys can talk to each other whilst riding. The anorak gang will never smile at motorbike riders.

    Why rent bikes? The CRF is perfect for that use. I certainly wouldn’t want carbon fibre crash protection, it’s far too fragile when knocked and very expensive to repair.

  • @whereveraway

    @whereveraway

    4 ай бұрын

    @@davidmatthews3093 Nope, the bikes they have are too heavy for the true off road technical bits. I had the CRF X, there is also the R (motocross), but the L is a hybrid road bike. The X is around 117kg. I think the L is around 60kg heavier. Ride up rock ditches at 45 degrees with water coming down at you and you will see the difference. The carbon under engine is there for a reason. Let's agree to disagree.

    I had to sell my XR400 because I felt like everyone hates off roaders, ..all the angry farmers, walkers, horseriders….but mainly because byways and route are so hard to find.

    I've been riding since i was 10yrs old now 54yr. don't be so hard on yourself you're doing exceptionally well. but for both of you should really not stand so much think about riding for 10-14 or more hours in a day, do you really want to do that standing or sitting. only need to stand if you think things might get a little intense. personally I can feel what the bike is doing with my butt and standing is a killer on the arms wrist, plus you can lift your feet when going through puddles they'llstay dry.... well done ( ͡❛ ͜ʖ ͡❛)

    We sit down a lot but just haven’t filmed them bits, the standing is more to just get Martha used to being up and feeling the bike at the moment
