The Toor and CRKT are tactical tools meant for breaching a car or building or splitting a bad guy down the middle. The Spyderco is a bushcraft tool for making a shelter. Not everything is a fireplace tool.

CRKT has some other axes that are more traditional and look like they would be a better option, like the Birler and the Freyr. The Cimbri is more of a tomahawk than anything but wouldn't be a bad choice for space/weight saving on a hike and just make a quick handle when needed

I can’t believe you didn’t mention the Council Woodcraft 24”. It’s the best axe I’ve ever used, and it’s 100% USA made from USA components. It uses better steel than many of these (5160), has a hardened pole, and a 90 degree edge on the top. Everyone should own one. The Council Woodcraft 19” and the 16” Camp Carver are amazing, as well.

I have a small collection of axes from crkt (all of the woods line) and the more expensive kangee that is a “full tang” and its the same as the most expensive one you showed, it says in the box “not for throwing”, which sucks because that’s exactly why I bought them. I had a sog voodoo hawk years ago that i threw and broke. So when a hawk says “not for throwing” I don’t throw them and it pisses me off. Honestly a little disappointed you didn’t show any of the woods hawks, or any of the other crkt stuff to be honest.

Refreshing to find a video like this from someone who actually knows their way around an axe and isn't just suggesting whatever looks cool...

Lol but this is exactly the video that is suggesting axes that just look cool. Only a few of these axes are half decent.

i always hate how most axes the place where the axe blade attaches to the wooden handle always chips away and starts to splinter as time ages and i always hate that. makes it seem like the blade might come off because its not secure enough with a wooden handle and metal blade

it just makes me insecure that wooden handles do that over 50 years of heavy heavy use. like some pickaxes also have the wooden chip and splinter over time

@@Kevin-qj7fp If you manage to get 50 years of hard work out of it I'd say it was worth the purchase. I totally understand your frustration though, during a long trip up a mountain to split a fallen tree the last thing you want to happen is a loose axe head. Now for the real problem, somebody please make a reliable chainsaw!

Priced a few of those axes and they were ridiculously expensive. Obviously, your tastes don't take budget into account.
