Good choice for yourpowerplant there is a place that builds custom chargers and they use a marine engine because they are built for higher RPM I think you will be buying lots of tires

Obviously we don’t have to comb through hours of footage in order to put these videos together. Yet I believe that you capture the essence of FSG in such an amazing way. I truly can’t imagine it could be done any better. Bravo kind sir, I truly appreciate all your time and effort.
40 years ago i was 40. Still feel 40. But sometimes the body says different. Thats going to be a gem of an engine. Cant wait to see her finished. Love the show kids.

One Day I was at a pub reading my book and every now and then I look up to see the score of the game or something. All of a sudden I realized it was taking a lot longer to refocus my eyes. I commented on this to the person next to me and they're like how old are you. I said I just turned... That's the age everything starts to go bad..

That’s awesome!!! He does a great job!
an idea for 1st start up for any engine that you guys may already know but just in case you dont know, before you put the distributor in the engine, install the oil filter and put the oil in the engine then get a high torque/power drill with a distributor shaft and put it down the distributor hole and prime the motor of oil then install the distributor and temporary fuel system and start the engine
I guess a diesel duramax for the boat. Keep up the great vidoes! Love watching you guys and the family!
This was super satisfying to see. And I loved the paper trick I never knew that. So it will actually suck the paper in because a valve is not fully closed ? That’s cool
I scrapped a 1980's 454 marine engine and found out it was worth a fortune. The intake, exhaust manifolds and water pump were made from red brass.
I've been 40 for 14 years!! Love that b-e-a-utiful flag ya got there :)
Awesome engine swap, that should get the 57' up to planing speed on the interstate in no time flat. Just remember that when driving into a car show it's a ''NO WAKE'' zone hahaha love ya Dream Reevers
Just now getting to see this episode. Love the 55 project and really enjoyed this. I would like to point out a few of things that I noticed: 1. If you look at the distributor drive gear on the one you pulled out, it looked like a bronze gear. I couldn't tell if the one you installed had a steel or iron gear. If it is iron, take it out and replace it with one recommended by Summit. The roller cams are steel and can eat that distributor gear or cam gear up really quickly. This actually applies to all roller cams and distributor gear combinations, not just BBC 2. It appeared that y'all have a rectangular port intake and the stock heads are oval port. Maybe the gasket mismatch you noticed. The mismatch will likely cause power and tuning issues. That can be solved if you decide to get some aluminum heads just order the rectangular ports. One thing to consider when buying heads is that the Marine engines are very low compression. They had one on Engine Masters and the guys said it was around 8:1 so you would want to consider that when sizing combustion chambers and if you replace the cam. Good luck and I can not wait until the next 55 episode.
40 is still young. I remember being 40. There are still many years of living left.
Why you guys don't have half a million, or even a million subscribers is beyond me. Great video

40 is just getting good , a pair of gearheads perfect timing. BB heads have square ports or oval ports , don’t enterchange much . Auto and marine, few differences . Looks like a old skool L S 6 . It’s alive!
I enjoy all of your videos, but the ones with TK are my faves!
That carb looks great leave it purple
Last time I installed a big block with a seven litre oil pan with headers, I had to use a remote oil filter because I couldn't get the oil filter off. Have fun.
Finley is the Man. He is one of the most chill dogs that I know. He is at home wherever you two are, and supervising to the max while you work.
Hi guys, most trifives with headers come pretty close to the power steering box. On my 55, I have wrapped the headers with a titanium basalt heat wrap and I have also run the low pressure return line from the steering box through a transmission cooler before it returns to the power steering pump reservoir.
Again, I love you guys weather your working on a car or boat. My loves is in both departments. I'll keep watching.
“Isn’t that pretty, that water pump….said no woman ever”. Just love that! 😅
I also wanted to add , before I'd tear that head off , I put a water system on that engine and run it a while, especially if it was sitting for awhile, I'm a retired Chevrolet mechanic and it could be a valve sticking a little. Good luck and keep up the great work ❤❤
@nateb8245

I’d agree with that. Temp water system, even. A hose plumbed into water pump at a trickle. Get it to temp for a while. Maybe dribble some water down the carb to steam clean that valve.
All the stuff you are taking off is worth alot of money.
Couldn’t figure out the title until I watched. Like it.
Hey Guys TIP : For keeping paint outa bolt holes - those foam earplugs buy a bulk container full, works great 👌
Can’t ever go wrong with a big block Chevy, love it! For the valve issue maybe rig up a radiator and give it the ole “Italian tune up” as VGG would say lol.
Okay guys, you absolutely right about boat motors.... the engine operation temp is usually 160° or lower. Oil does not get hot enough to bake the additives in oil to cause the crusties, or tge carbon build up. Now to keep engine clean, you will need to run a good synthetic oil to keep it that way. If no on the oil, run the 160° thermostat to keep it clean..... UNSOLICITED ADVICE FROM OLD BOAT MECHANIC!!!
If Aaron's picking the new boat motor it has to be a diesel!
Young kids!
As Derek would say, "Give it the Italian tune up" with some Berryman B12 and see how the valves behave. That stuff is magic.
For the boat engine, let's see...you need a GM so the drive components adapt, want good torque and reliability so you aren't having to work on something all the time. I know, a 292 straight 6!
As always, another awesome video. Love watching you two tear into engines. And....Finley adds so much too!
Awesome‼️ guess I'll just have to keep sitting on the edge of my seat to see where ya go next! 😄
Love your show. Talked to you at a couple of the drag and drive events. Just to let you know, the valve cover on the passage side should be on the driver side. That recessed area that is on the front is to be on the rear to clear a vacuum power brake canister.

What a Fantastic Video Emily & Aaron, you guys rock... Keep up the great work.
yes 40 is young. I'm 81 and am still working on cars, boats etd. Oh my sons also do the same. Jim Rio Vista, CA
Before adding anthing additional, making the headers harder to take off, you might want to consider getting rid of that silicone. I can't tell you how many exhaust leaks I've had to fix due to people either trying to use it as an exhaust gasket, or putting in on exhaust gaskets. I've never seen any of the "high temp" silicone hold up to the temps, even the old stuff that was infused with copper. All of it burns up, cracks and degrades usually within 100 hours of run time causing exhaust leaks. Just something to think about from a 30 year mech.
I love Aaron's valve fix...Aluminum Heads! Oh Yeah! A set of AFR heads will be fit right nice.
So excited to see the beast come to life! Can't wait to see whats to come with this project! Glad you are doing it your way, take your time. And be happy with it! Lovin it!
Dude that is awesome!!! Purrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
PS, I set myself up a Summit account after this episode!
Exciting build and congrats on buying family homestead.
if the heads are comming off, good time to deck the heads a little and get just a bit more compression.
Good to see it coming along can't wait for the first burnout.....WOW
Geesh, when you started talking engine swaps during the boat episode. I was thinking Aaron was going to the old shop and grab a CAT from an old Kenworth! Then dropping the boat engine into the Camper with a new 4L80. Some where in your shop is GTRoxy's old heart. She woulda fit without an adapter kit. LS engines still have the front engine mount holes the SBC had to mount in the 55 originally
about 3:30 .. and that folks is the difference between cats & dogs , Finlay opened one eye & thought ' hello human ' .... cat almost got up ready to attack human .... lol

I like the longer videos and this was great. If you take your time, get the right parts, it is going to be so much fun. Thanks for taking us along on these journeys. See you two and Finley next episode. Have fun and stay safe.
How about a shirt with 57 Chevy 454 logo , Great video guys.
Most marine engines run a cam that allows the engine to run high rpm for a long time. A automotive engine runs a cam to go between 0-3000 rpm multiple times during one drive
@69castellano
23 күн бұрын
I knew someone would say it. That my knowledge of a boat engine is the cam is the only thing different. As brianwills2532 said, to run high RPM for a long time. Typically these are called "RV" cams. Like something you'd find in a big RV going down the road. People use RV cams for the street. Do a little research on them to find out where they make their power in the RPM range and see if it's a good fit for the 57 project.
we used to cut the heads off of 2 long bolts and cut a screw driver slot then fit two to the back off the block and use to guide into place easy
Double hump heads are small block performance heads. Always thought it was a silly thing to call heads. I had some on my 56 Chevy. Love the longer videos and keep up the good work.
I really enjoyed this episode! Fun to see you both bring something to life again. Nice job! Excited for you both.
Yeah hell yeah sounds beautiful love that rumbling sound of a 454 hell yeah baby❤

Thanks so much!! We sure do appreciate you!!
I learned this lesson years back not with the race car, but the van we towed it with: Taylor spark plug boot protectors are cheap insurance! In our case, the ignition miss only happened on long uphill sections, but yes, melty wire end and grounding out.
Enjoy your youth. I am as old as both of you together.
I havnt read all the comments , I want to let you know you have the valve covers on the wrong sides. the plug wire brackets and the large slanted flat go in the rear. the slanted flat is to clear vacuum power brake boosters.
I'm 60 and my body crunches more and more LOL
Thanks for working on all the stuff of my dreams!!!
Sorry to say , but O’Reillys doesn’t exist in my part of the country. I like that y’all are back on the 57 !
Ditch that power steering box and get yourself an electric power steering it’ll be manual you can adjust it for how much resistance you want. You have plenty of room for your headers electric power steering look it up. It’s cool.
Enjoy your videos- I have two 57s. 210 2 dr hardtop and 210 Townsman wagon. The coupe has a 454. I am sure you know the valve cover with the slanted corner goes on the drive side. Was designed for vettes to fit around the brake booster. it doesnt matter just saying. Keep it up! I have also been on 2 HRPTs, 2018 and 19. See yall on the road.
Nothing wrong with bouncing around from project to project.. A change is as good as a rest.. HAHAHA. Keep up the great work!! Thanks for all you do!!
I agree with painting the purple on the carb .....black. Really enjoyed this video.
One foot in front of the other, one step at a time it is running COOL.
Instead of screw drivers and razor blades to scrape silicone, use a CARBIDE scraper. They work awesome. The jungle site has them for about $35 for a wide and thin size scraper.

Junkyard-Digs also built a boat engine in his dad's F150 a few years ago. It's great that you are taking the time to complete this project, the engine sounds good.
Great video guys. That 454 will scoot that 57 Chev around quickly.
Love the mock-up of the engine and trans. That's the look of experience we see 🙂
Can't wait to see the new boat engine choice and process.
Gotta say I am glad you are back on the '57! I like the plan....take your time and savor the build! I figure that is one big rat that the shop cats won't be chasing! The valve is a minor setback and easily fixed. Great video and great fun! Best wishes guys and take care!
Always enjoy your bubbly personalities and especially the positivity. Can’t wait for the next one.
I recommend lock tite on the fly wheel bolts!
FYI I installed rubber motor mounts in my c10 with about 400 hp driverside broke in 2 mouths the headers heat up the rubber. replaced with poly good for over 5 years now.love the build you guys have a lot of work ahead keep on wrenching .
@jerrywilliams8733

Yeah, just the torque of a big block alone will rip those dated mounts in a few launches. Chevrolet had a recall on them back when they used to be factory. You basically got a cable strap that went from the exhaust to the left front A-arm. Most people put a chain on to keep them from breaking.
My guess is the boat will get a large displacement LS or a diesel. I'll watch and see. Love this idea for the 57. Very cool! Be safe!
Flying sparks, you guys are awesome. Couple that are really into building muscle cars I like how u guys roll. Can't wait to see that 57 Chevy fired up and ready to rumble. By then I can say you are bad to the bones congrats and keeping u p with your vedios to see the outcome of your 57. Goodluck
Love it yal are so cute together ❤❤❤❤
The engine is going to be a 16 liter Detroit. Aaron came from big truck world after all. Love y’all’s work.
Hopefully that intake works for you since the ports are square and the heads are roundish.( peanut port heads). The Warrior intake is a direct replacement aluminum intake for those heads.
I'm guessing the new boat engine will be a 6.6 Duramax. LBZ probably.
The reason why that motor is so clean is it because it is a boat motor boat motors don’t see dirt and dust and stuff like that they’re out in the middle of the water. What a boat motor blows up it blows up really clean.
I so enjoy watching the two of you, you are both amazing love watching your builds Aaron 40 is not old
I think the Captain is going to put a diesel in the boat. When you said your shoulders crunched, my shoulders felt a kinship, someone who could speak of hard work!
