When I was a young guy I worked for a place that built and repaired logging trailers. We had them come in rusted, bent, twisted and broken. We just cut them open, separated the pieces, cleaned and straightened them then welded them back up. My friends never understood why I'd pass loaded logging trucks at full throttle and wouldn't even sit next to one at a stop light. Because I knew the kind of condition most of them were in, they lived a hard life with damn little care and maintenance.

Yes and some of their drivers... 🙄 I ended up chasing one down in my patrol car that buzzed me on traffic stop 30 over the speed limit. Almost hit me, the patrol car and the vehicle i had stopped already. The driver tried to elude me getting him stopped, I let the one I had stopped go on verbal warning. The driver had all licenses revoked indefinitely for life for multiple at fault crashes, many convictions and active warrants. Log hauler in S.E. GA. A buddy of mine had a trucking company that did containers from port always said stay away from them too.

As a former auto mechanic from the Rust Belt, I can tell you that rust is pretty strong stuff. It's funny how rust can practically weld metal together, but let it rust a little more, and the whole thing falls apart. The hook slicing the inner tube was pure genius. It obviously took a bunch of really heavy-duty vehicles to get it apart. Highly impressive, Casey!

Very interesting video. I hope your hand is okay. I had a similar experience with a measly 3 pound hammer handle, a stabilizer bar on the back of my 2N Ford and my left index finger. I left the glove on and when I was sure I wasn't going to pass out drove to the hospital so my wife could x-ray the finger and the ER dock could sew it up. I've nicknamed that finger stumpy because it's considerably shorter than it used to be. I can still type with it so I'm happy. I'm partially ambidextrous but should have known better than to swing a heavy hammer left handed. I have a rule now that since I can't wipe my own butt with the stupid hand don't do dangerous things with it. I would have never thought to drag that hook through that tube and was certain that something would break while it was still inside making the problem even worse. I love watching your videos to see how you come up with solutions for situations. Even "failures" are educational. When I was a kid I found an old coffee can in my dad's collection of "I might need that someday" junk. There were tiny pulleys in there that fascinated me. I found some cord and started playing with them and learned how added pulleys equaled out to increased leverage. We had a two foot section of railroad track and I was using pulleys to drag it and lift it with only my finger tips. I love seeing the rigging in place and your explanations of how the leverage should work. I'm still fascinated with torque and force science but never took any physics classes to delve deeper into. I wasted my time tying to learn about computer design and working in manufacturing to put food on the table. If your trucks happen to have a Cummins X15 it was probably shipped off the dock I used to run where those engines are assembled. We shipped some smaller stuff but not the engines for Dodge trucks. I'm too old and worn out to get into a line of work like that so I'm really enjoying your videos and still learning new things. Have you ever studied the life and work of Archimedes? As one nerd to another I expect you would love the man's genius ideas.

I've farmed and worked iron since I could follow my dad around, and I would have never thought to split that tube with a chain. If you read the paper, have a roof over your head, or wiped your ass today, thank a logger, they made it possible.

Never ceases to amaze me the holding power of rust. Great idea for splitting it. I was pretty skeptical that it would work. Very cool video. How's your hand??? 😯😯😯

I was checking your lift out before you doubled the line. I kept trying to pause it as you walked by. I enjoy watching your day to day hurtles. I work on inland barges and around water all day, when I get off I check out what Casey is doing in the dry country. Great video Baytown, Texas is onboard

That was an incredible example of mind over matter! LOL!! I was wondering, all the time I was watching, "what would the cost of two new tubes be?" compared to the cost of the time and equipment used to "save" the remaining outside tube???? BUT where's the entertainment value of that?!! Great job guys!!

I kept thinking put some heat to it!

  • @arthurr8670

    19 күн бұрын

I don't think heat would work. Rust was stopping this but not in the same way that heat would help. Heat helps break the bond. This was more of a rust jacking issue, which is too much rust putting pressure and being in the way.
