That “doorway “ you’re making in your basement, to the outside, you should put in a double door and make it a walk out basement! We did that, and our kids played in the basement on the unfinished cement floors, even riding bikes and rollerblading! The door makes it easier to carry things in and out of the basement…like a huge extra freezer, for a cow we had butchered!!

He said that there will be a basement dug adjoining that wall were they are putting the temp door, this will be the new basement for the extension he's building onto the house. Having said that, I do love a walk out. Basement - we have one, but he does not have the right elevation for a walk out Basement.

Agree. I suggested a basement opening for the removal of the big black water tank. A lot less trauma to open basement wall install doors as you suggested.

Abit of ADVICE TO YOU COLE...as you make the trenches in the land, you should make a schematic design to KNOW WHERE your live [ ACTIVE ] cables are and what depth they are. Do this to ALL trenching you do, then in future YOU KNOW excatly where they are, what depth etc etc. I love what you do.

As a contracting officer for the Army, I always demanded a set of "AS BUILTs". Documentation of where the underground stuff is. This was critical as we opened the and put more things into a trench we had already installed, as for your big door on the basement wall, it could cause big problems with water in the basement. Lately, with all the flooding could be a real problem. it would make a nice entrance to a tornado shelter if properly reinforced.

starting to think it would have been easier to have just jacked the roof up, bulldozed everything under it, and then to simply built back up to the roof. These videos have been very entertaining and enjoyable to watch, so I am glad you chose the "slow" method. God has blessed you with great neighbors as friends.

I'm glad you are replacing the main electrical feed line for the well and the house. Better yet, you're using a conduent to run the line. If you have problems in the future, at least you can just pull new wires without many problems. Hopefully, you use copper wires, not aluminum, for the main feed. Aluminum works loose at the connections and also degrades over time. Not to mention the voltage drop and possible shortage from corrosion. Great job, everyone, and just take it one day at a time. Great video, Cole, and I agree you do repeat what you are doing a little much 😀 . Love your Chanel Cole.

Doing it right is what I love about this. You can farmer do it or you can do it right. BTW farmer doing it in Australia is basically making it work until you get the right parts delivered. As far as electricals and all that goes one very interesting and cool way of running underground electricals and internet is running drilling rigs to horizontal drill and then pull conduit through. I have seen a single drill hole pull 4 lines through in one and run internet cables.

I hate to say it again but before you do all the digging and repair work in the basement you would be better building a ramp and the modify them to stairs afterwards and build a door to go that way. Now your going to do it at the end? We did this and then borrowed an old hay bail conveyor and put old belting together on it. We put it in the basement and used it to take the dirt out of the basement and straight into a dump trailer. Was totally worth it.

❤ When the farm was older and the wiring was done for other purposes no one made a map of where and when the buried electricity cables were and if they did the knowledge was not saved and passed on for the next generation. Do not make the same mistake. Keep detailed information about the placement of your new builds ( electric, water, septic systems and line, wiring in your home while you are running new wiring take pictures before you cover the wall. If possible put all of the information on paper and disks. Store them in a safety deposit box and have copies at home for future use for yourself and future generations) I love watching the series very much and I am learning more about older homes. I remodeled my house and took pictures of everything with my phone but it was before SD cards and I didn't make drawings on paper. One day my phone just stopped working and all of the pictures were lost and now all I have is my memory. If I had it to do it again I would have at least made drawings from the pictures.

This is just a temporary door to help move product and dirt out of the basement, there will be a new basement dug that is adjacent to the wall that is going to have a temporary door/pass thru - so in time that area will no longer be the exterior wall as there is going to be an extension built there at some point in time.

I watch Cole to motivate myself for the restoration of my 1917 farmhouse. The sad part is as many obstacles and issues Cole has had to do on his house, I look at mine and realize I have even more issues than Cole. My motivation is dwindling.

Yeah and you probably don’t have the funds at your disposal like he does. While I understand the personal attachment, at what point does it become more feasible to build new?

Our home is 110 years old ...we renovate every year lol I want to knock it down and build new but my wife loves to much and thinks it's so nice. I hope one day I finally fix everything the DIY re-builder tries to fix it. LoL keep going it's rewarding for others lol 😆 it keeps me from doing dishes and laundry and cooking. There is that ... I guess lol 😆

I'm astonished that he's a great farmer been watching this kid since he was 19. But Cole if you build a ramp to your basement you are bing to have a serious indoor pool. There is no drain that would handle the melting snow or the water from the storms you guys get. Please rethink your plans for the ramp to your basement lol.

Having a house photo book (the more elaborate the better) detailing the bones to the finished will be invaluable for you... or kids .. or great grandkids, especially electrical since within 50 - 100 years there will be some changes we can't predict now. Make a place to permanently house this (attic?) That's known and out of the way. Obviously your channel will be very valuable on this front, but a book can have some actual measurements. Computer files are nice but not as permanent as we think. Keep up the good work

A trenching bucket on the backhoe probably would have been the better choice in retrospect with all the issues

Suggestion/Idea. You should consider putting a fence around the power boxes, like a cage. It would look a lot better and keep any wondering kiddos away, and be more visible for trucks. I just think it would be way safer for your kiddos/there friends.

Those boxes are designed to be safe inside when the cover is opened. They would need to use a screwdriver or other tool to remove the panel that covers the bare wires and terminals inside the box. Most children won't mess with it when they are warned they could receive a bad shock or be killed instantly if they touch a hot wire. The fence could slow the response time in an emergency when power needs to be shut off ASAP.
