I vote to rebuild the 396 or at least keep it old school. Thanks for another great episode!

Yep, keep it the way it was originally. The engine will fit in the shop and the truck sits outside anyway now. No big deal.

Disagree. 454s are plentiful. A gen 6 454 will give a modern valvetrain and you can still use a carb with it if you want to keep it retro. Btw I doubt this is a 396 despite what it says on the label, it's most likely a 402. Chevy changed it around 69-71 ish. They were marketed as 396s but they had 402 ci.
VGG sends it "Right down the yap!" Works just fine as "the EYETALIONE TUNEUP"😊 You guys absolutely have to freshen up that 396 and keep running the camper, you just have such joy on your face when driving it, even knowing there is a problem. Its just too cool not to keep it. BTW, you guys found what mist be the most HOT ROD muffler shop on your trip, that was cool.

No that's a old BBC, you need the 454.
This was an awesome episode - loved the watching you two get the RV ready to go on the trip as always but also loved getting to see some of the photo shoot what a great addition to the video - great content Emily & Aaron! We both say please REBUILD the 396!

Wonderful video!!! I smell a refresh coming... just to hear a freshly done 396.... oh man! Great content Emily and Aaron, you two are phenomenal. Happy 4th!
The RV won't fit in your shop, but the engine would! Take the hood off, lift the engine out, take it inside (using the tractor maybe?), let Aaron show his pro skills doing a complete rebuild. Good material for a series of videos. Could alternate with Emily doing a refresh of the cab interior and the RV interior.

"ABSOLUTELY!" That would make for some great stuff. Yeah, rebuilding a Chevrolet big block, and adding some go fast goodies, headers, and fuel injection! Oh Yeah, and don't forget that 150 shot of nitrous for climbing mountains, Ha haa😂😅 Love Y'all ❤😊😊
No doubt about it, Aaron is a lucky guy. And it looks like his health is improving too. Cheers.
I was born in 1960 so that 396 has a special place in my heart. Please rebuild as a torque monster.
Definitely rebuild the 396. That big block will provide plenty of power when it is healthy.
You’re got to do a 396 rebuild. Great video.
As a child of the 70’s, I’m pro big-block. I have a gen 1 Camaro. I open the hood, and can actually work on the engine. With my 2019 F 150, I don’t even try. That 396 is the first real big block. Arron’s right, you will absolutely love the performance of a well running 396. Good luck.

I've done Civil War Reenactments in downtown Jefferson. It is a very lovely town. I love the people there too. Got too old and the back won't let me fight anymore, but I still have the greatest of memeroeds of this place. Thank YOu for taking me there again.
Aaron is on in this one. That friggin' step liked'a killed me 🤣😂
That is such a cool rig. I would stay with the 396 and keep the rig a classic. I had a 1970 C10 long bed so I am a bit partial. What a fun video and thanks for taking us along. It sounds like some fun projects are on the way and I am looking forward to them.

I remember seeing a 67 - 72 style C10 longbox when I was a kid. It looked like it had a foot section of the box (behind the cab) spliced in from the factory.. I remember the vertical seam. maybe it was extra long longbox option for some reason.

@@Stahodad No seam in mine which had a factory original wood deck. That ole girl hauled a lot more than a half ton on many occasions. It had a 350 with a four speed and had extra leafs in the springs.
Good to see Aaron doing better each episode. You’re right, it’s always an adventure with these old classics. Try a several hundred mile trip in old AirCooled VW’s, one is always bound to have an issue 😂 But that’s the fun of it all!
Engine swap would be cool, but I think you would be happy to just do a refresh on the 396. Maybe add a Holley Sniper system. 👍
Arron is talking about Derick on VVG. He uses Berriman's and calls it an Italian tune up. For sure rebuild the 396, keep it original.
Emily! If you are going 65+ up hills in that C30 motor home, you are are doing great! Glad you folks found the kool muffler shop.
Emily VGG does the “Italian tune up”! He uses the Seafoam knockoff… Derek is a good guy! Very funny and informative!
Freshen up the big block. Put a RV cam in it, Air Gap intake & a Holly carb & a set of headers & she'll be a great rig!
Vice grip garage you need to watch more of Derek , you guy are great
Thanks I really enjoyed this episode. I'd love to see you both go on a weekend trip in it once it's totally totally fixed.
Love, Love, Love the Camper. I had a 67 just like it with an OPEN ROAD body on it. Mine was a 327, but still performed "adequately"... I would have really liked to have a BB 396 in it though, ESPECIALLY when going up through the mountains. We found ours at the DFW Swapmeet a few years ago. I let mine go due to health, but enjoyed it while we had it. Thanks for the memory.
100% Keep the 396 in there It would be un cool to do it any other way
Thanks for taking us along on your "adventure". I'd vote for rebuilding the 396.
Hey Ole Derek at VGG does the Italian Tune up right down the yap as he puts it! So, why not? lol. Glad to hear Aaron sounding so much better! Happy Fourth to you both!
Even though I'm currently in Southern Indiana, I have family in Kilgore. East Texas is full of great people. Glad you figured out about pouring down the carb. When you said you had too much RTV on the gasket, I was waiting for a "Perfect!" 😂
Those Micks are very spot on, as far as there is no wind, but boy they are doing the jobs
I’d say refresh the 396. They are pretty stout and would be awesome to keep her original. So glad Aaron’s feeling better also. ;)
I love your content so much!!!! I say rebuild that 396. Bore and stroke it for torque and put Holley FI on it. It’ll be old and new. The driveability with that setup will be amazing. You could put under dash air in it too.
Give the 396 some love & bring it back to its former glory. Keep it all original !
Been watching since the KID was really little. The music interludes were really nice. Good move.
So nice to look at such genuinely nice people as you😀
Rebuild the 396 keep it real. Love watching you two work on everything that you have. Keep up the great content love it. Can't wait to see what's next. God bless!!!
Get it old school guys. Yes, I would love to watch the process! .
When you had the mic close up Emily sounded like an all night FM radio DJ from the 80s. You could have backed up to clear the wheel chock left in in gear and shut the engine off. go back and remove the chock then get back in fire it up and head on out.
would be great to see the engine get rebuilt and to see it run as it should
I love this camper. I don't think I have ever heard anyone putting silicon on the exchaust gaskets.

Red RTV works great on header and collector gaskets. Been using it for years👍
Glad the ol RV truck got home without the hook! I think rebuilding the 396 would be awesome, but do what y’all feel like you want!
Refresh that 396, fuel inject it if you want a bit more consistent operation from it. I think the cool factor of those old trucks jumps up several notches when kept close to original. I'm sure a Duramax swap would be pretty awesome too though.. Good to see Aaron looking a bit more like his old self. I don't know what he went through, but I know first hand what a major health crisis can do to you. It really lifts my spirits to see him recovering.
Quite the adventure there. You have to love those local shops that just get things done and help you get down the road. As for the truck, definitely rebuild the original engine if it's still possible. You can't beat original in a rig like that. Thanks for the info on the mics. I'm trying to start my own channel and have been looking for audio equipment. Keep on enjoying the ride.
Fresh 396 for sure, keep that one original. Hard to find them like that, and Aaron is right, it would have great power and torque with a rebuild. Great content as always, love it!
Emily, it would be really cool if you & your man did a "Cars & Guns" episode--drive one of your cars to the gun range & show some fun shooting. ;)
Rebuild the 396. It is a great opportunity to showcase Aaron's mechanic skills. People like the intricate rebuild content. At least I do. The Corvette manual transmission rebuild series you guys did was my favorite content you have done. And if the 396 is not rebuildable, 12V Cummins swap it.
Great episode. Love seeing the older RV's on the road. Definitely rebuild the 396. The Edelbrok performer camshaft is a great match for the RV.
All the best. I'm glad things are going well for you. Thanks for the entertainment and knowledge over the years.
Love the camper hope to see more of it
Ya'll are awesome! Definitely do the rebuild!!
Excellent episode, as usual. I would rebuild the engine if the block is still good.
Great videos. I think if it were me I would go ahead and fix camper motor with what ever it needs. The cost of a newer camper would be expensive and when you two go on a trip you have all you need. Maybe take a break and get that vette out and go enjoy a mini vacation. The main thing is enjoy your lives and do what makes you two happy. Again great videos. We need more people like you.two.This world would be a better place.

The 396 is a legend in its own right. Please overhaul that girl and she will serve you well for many powerful miles.
Aaron the next time you need to you need to use the seafoam tray to use a gear oil bottle with the spout to the carburetor
It's great to hear from you guys all the way up here in Canada 🇨🇦. Excellent episode. Mics are great . Love to see you working and getting along. Have a fun trip, kiddos.
Great video! Really cool to see some parts of the shoot. I know you guys will get that rig back on the road. I agree. Go with another big block. Maybe even a 454. Safe travels and good health to you.
A factory fresh 396 will make you more than happy in this C30 RV... it'll be sweet.
You two are the best, sticking with it...I know you want to upgrade the manual transmission to something with overdrive..., so an engine rebuild / refresh would be fun to watch too. 👍

Whoa, sorry about all the spelling errors..lol. at least I can edit them, unlike on Instagram... lol. 😉
My favorite way to seafoam is to pull the vacuum line off the brake booster and dip it in the can a few time until it sputters each time. Then let it come back up and shove the hose in and let it suck it up until the engine dies. Let it sit for 15 minutes then start it back up and let her smoke it out. Don’t forget to change the oil after. Edit: rebuild the 396 and get it a nice RV cam, 4 barrel carb and manifold (I’m partial to a Weiand manifold myself) and some nice headers. Bet she will run like a champ!
Several tips I learned way back. When starting anything that has a thread, turn it backwards until you feel it fall down into the first thread. Some times you can actually hear it drop in. Do this for every nut bolt or screw and you will never cross threads which is usually what strips threads out. If you struggle with starting bolts on an exhaust header or manifold usually the issue is the weight pulling the lower part towards the block. Grab a pry bar or broom handle and use that to twist the whole thing bottom side towards the wheel to tilt the top where your bolt holes line up better. Second pull one wire off the distributor cap and then move each one one post to the right. After you do that you will be able to rotate the whole distributor clockwise to get it back into time and allow more balanced movement both clockwise and counter clock wise to tune it. No more hitting the intake. If the vacuum is too close to the fire wall do the same thing the other way. That way you can get it to run and have time later to remove and reset the distributor properly. Finally you are not supposed to put any sealer on those aluminum header gaskets. Flat side to the block, dotted puffy side to the header. Good luck and safe travels on your road trip
“Somewhere between 15 minutes and 3 days…”. 😂😂😂😂 I see you have done this before.
I love your video's. They're so down to earth, like we're all just a bunch of friends hanging out, but live in different places. I think the 396 would be cool to rebuild, if you're planning on keeping it on mostly flat ground. If your plans include mountains, a diesel would handle those better. A mechanical Cummins would be a much easier swap, than an Izuzu (Duramax). Either way, keep up the great content!
Been a photographer for 38 years I consider myself semi professional and I must say those locations and what the photographers created was amazing. Really like the photo of the young boy looking out of the window.
That seafoam stuff works wonders on cleaning the carbon buildup off valves!!
The positive vibes are refreshing !
So fun seeing your fashion work.
Awesome video! Love your channel..........always great content & best of all you both are just down to earth type of folks. Greetings from N.C.
I agree, freshen up the 396. Love this episode. Great job!
Looks as though the quadrajunk could use a refresh...I love those things...everyone else can have their Holleys!
ASMR... That's hilarious Emily! 😂 And definitely rebuild the original. The level of old school cool in that truck is off the charts! Love hanging out with y'all (at least that's what it feels like) and really appreciate you sharing the good life with us. 👍
In my experience, with motors the best way to undo the manifold bolts is when it’s hot they break pretty nicely, and that was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen when he said we have a problem with the step and steps right through
See, God must be on your side. You were blessed enough to get the truck and yourself back home safe. Very cool, thank you Lord. Great times.
We luv Flying Sparks. Feel bad about the breakdown though.
Emily needs to watch some more vice grip garage 😂😂 Derek uses B-1 which is even more aggressive to dump down the ol'fuel makin happener
Sound is amazing!,,
An old trick that I use to use is dumping cold water into the hot engine, it would blast the carbon off of the valves.
Good episode guys, you 2 are pretty dang funny when you’re just goofing around.

I love watching y'alls videos! Seeing the first location Emily showed at Caddo in front of the restaurant, I thought, hey, I've been right there. There's a campground down that road not too far that we stayed at one weekend. That area is so cool and being the only natural lake in Texas it's also pretty special. Been right there in Jefferson too! Antique shopping! It's a neat town too.
rebuild the engine, cool video, You two are a joy to watch.
Spent a week at caddo lake about 20 years ago it is neat. Cool state park cabins back then huge fireplaces.
I'd defiantly keep it old school with a 396. A fresh rebuild with a Holley Sniper conversion would be sweet!!
Loved your show, you both bring the fatherly worry in me. That engine, if it's original needs fixing but a fresh 502 might be your answer, happy independence day.
Looking good!
I had this exact same C30 camper, loved it. I always had a problem with one of the spark plug wires. I cant remember which one it was. My family had alot of fun camping in it. Mine looked exactly the same a the one you have. It was 1990 and the front cab and engine was a Green color
I love your content! It’s wholesome and so much fun guys! You make it so much fun for a couple to work on old vehicles and put it out there that sometimes you don’t know how to fix an issue and have no problem saying so. Love the 402 that’s what it is actually! All trucks were a 402. Jfyi!
