Barn Find!1938 Ford Hot Rod Pickup! OHV V8 Power!! Abandoned For 48 Years! Will It Run?!?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I recently purchased this 1938 Ford pickup in an online auction. It was hot rodded in the 1970s with a 283 from a Chevrolet car and a bunch of other hot rod parts. Near as we can tell it was last running in 1975! If you'd like to own this vehicle it can be yours in as shown condition for $9,500. As always, thanks for watching!

Really can’t decide whether I want to watch this video. Why do you have to Frankenstein everything that you get? Why do you put those stupid Chevy engines in a Ford get a small block Ford motor and put in it I know more people want Ford motors in their stuff and they’re not as available small block Chevy‘s, but try it once. Sheesh I like your videos but do something wrong right way once!

Well, the engine was already in it when I got it. And that Chevy made double the horsepower of the Ford flathead. Seems like a pretty reasonable option to me!

i can appreciate the emotional roller coaster reviving old stuck motors. I recently purchased a 1968 international travelall that had been sitting since 1982. everything was stuck. cooling system was solid with rust. ended filling the entire motor with trans fluid and diesel. two weeks later it rotated. it now runs and idles.

It's pretty amazing, at the farm you picked up your truck(s), in the woods back where all those 50s cars and trucks are, just how they almost go back to nature. They aren't necessarily all rotted, but they all LOOK like their surroundings. They're somewhat rusted brown and any paint that was on them seems to have just turned a blue-green and they all just kind of camouflage and well go back to nature. Amazing find there, like you said, you'd never know any of that was back there. How neat is that?

The pistons are at least 11:1 with those domes. It's also a forged crank (you can tell by the wide, ground forging line. The valve springs and retainers are also larger than factory 283 valve springs. With those springs - make sure the rocker studs are at least pinned (or they can pull out).

Excellent episode, and an excellent example of how one modification can expand into 12 when you're building a hot rod. Funny that the '66 2bbl 283 has Power Pack heads, while the 'hot rod' '59 283 doesn't. It'd be cool to hear how that cammed engine runs! And I'm pretty sure those are the most words I've ever heard Mojo speak on this channel...

Pretty nice 283, steel crank, should be fun once you rub the ruff edges off, thread the crank for a damper bolt, not that much fun when they fly off. Pretty nice pickup, very dry body, saved a lot of labor on rust repair, should be a beauty when you work the bugs out.

That's a good candidate for a build where you just make a solid daily driver nothing over the top just a good solid finished out car. I love it just can't afford it. Beautiful car this comment was for the 63 Pontiac barn find. It switched videos while I was writing. I'm slow on the texting thing. Lol

Excellent project and wonderful video. Not surprised on the price but it likely going to sell fast. My 64 Corvette 327 365 HP had pistons like that 283. It was 11 to 1 compression. So that 283 could be a great little motor for another project. Duff was looking good. D

Those cars in the trees surprisingly had a lot of good glass. Definitely tons of excellent parts. If you did make a deal, (which I hope you did, it would be sad for all that stuff to become shitty appliances) the salvage operation would be an excellent video in itself.

Congratulations on getting the '38 Ford pick'em up running! Ho-boy, what a saga😊. I saw one of the haters was giving their opinion on using a Chevy engine in a Ford. I agree that if they want it that way, they should supply you with small block 302/351c. Well, good luck with it and I'll tune-in next week to see you and Duff tackle another project.
