Oscar Pistorius Trial: Thursday 13 March 2014 Session 3

A former station commander Schoombie van Rensburg has taken the stand in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial. The former colonel has denied claims that he resigned over allegations that he inappropriately kept the toilet door through which Reeva Steenkamp was shot. This as more alleged discrepancies in the SAPS's handling of crucial crime scene evidence have emerged.

sabcdigitalnews, thank you very much for taking time to make this trial available for us viewers who are interested to know what happened. I do care about justice for Oscar but also for Reeva, I sincerely hope the true story comes out of these proceedings. Again, thank you for the coverage.

Ballistic evidence says Reeva was tragically shot through a closed door. I'm convinced even a gun wielding, hyper tense, and aggressive individual would not risk losing everything over a 2 month old relationship going sour. IMO this was not an act of rage, but more of stupidity and recklessness with a firearm. Defence has pointed to many flaws in prosecutions case, particularly regarding the evidence, and at this point, prosecutions case seems circumstantial at best. It's a tragedy, but not Murder (as per legal definition).

He had no reason to fire 4 shots. He only had to fire a warning shot for the supposed burglar that he claims he thought was there, and he could then have stood by the door and called police. Only someone with little education and common sense would start firing away, especially if he hadn't checked to see where she was. They were in the midst of a heated argument so she locked herself in which pissed him off and went for his gun. After he confronted her about seeing her ex-boyfriend the day before an argument started and he also got no sex that night.

If you love guns as addict ,you buy one ,when you buy one ,you want to use it ,if you want to use it, you have to shoot, if you shoot, it´s to hit ,if you wanna hit, you need a target ,if you need a target ,you need to find one, but if you loose control on yourself and on your lovely gun your next could be the target you were looking for. That what happen. He wanted to shoot someone and finally he did it .Not only cause of jalousie but also cause of his gun addiction .And im pretty sure he does´t until jet realize that he kills Reva. OP must be send to the sanatorium cause he has a real psychic problem.

There are more questions than answers!! Unless OP confesses I doubt we will never know what happened in this case.

He has already confessed and has admitted he killed Reena. He is not denying that. If the state used Oscars own version of events he would be found guilty of manslaughter and given up to 15 years in prison. The problem that we have is that the state decided they did not want to charge him with manslaughter but with murder. If found guilty of murder then OP would get life in prison. The purpose of this court case is not to determine if OP killed Reena but that he Murdered her. In order to do this they have to prove beyond a shadow of doubt that OP 1) Planned to kill Reena 2) Has a motive to kill her 3) that he had intent to kill her. If they cant prove this then he will be found innocent of murder and that means the Judge at her discretion find him guilty of accidental killing (she cannot find him guilty of Manslaughter because he was not charged with this offence). If this is the case she could let him go free or she could send him to prison for a nominal 2 years.

Barney Geddes Yes I think most of us know that.Well...most of the crime fanatics do..Somehow I think even if he gets off with a light sentence, he will always be dogged by people thinking he's a murderer. If he gets a heavy sentence then he will forever have people fighting for his freedom. That is why I said what I said..

We will most likely Never know what was Said, (one may say "Screamed" ;o) that night, but with all the various experts in the forensics department, we should be able to get a very good impression of how events unfolded. (Ballistics, Blood-spatters, Physics, Psychology? etc ) Of course, both Prosecution & Defense will have their own interpretations of those events and it will be down to the judge to evaluate them. ... And we, the public, to judge him by his actions.. :)

One of the most Interesting segments of the trial so far.. I'm sure we were all waiting to see the photo's of the crime scene, the only one topping this for me are Reeva and Oscar's phone records for that night. After watching this segment my 1st thoughts are ... 1 ... He also had a Airgun Rifle in that bedroom. (don't believe he used it that night though) 2 ... Why is the bed duvet on the floor? (If the room was so dark that night, he could have tripped over that and his jeans when going to retrieve his gun) 3 ... There was a lot of other damage in the bathroom (Dented steel plate, Broken wall tiles, more splinters of wood then I thought. 4 ... Appears Reeva did take Her phone into the bathroom. (I was thinking they were Oscar's 2 cellphones) 5 ... The bathroom window was Open. (I can understand leaving the bedroom door open to let in some cool air but if Oscar is 'terrified' of home invasion, an open bathroom window is very contradicting to his standpoint) 6 ... Why is the fan important here? (Roux made mention to Samantha Taylor that Oscar used to 'ventilate' his prosthetics at night. I'm now assuming that is what the smaller fan is used for but why was the taller one outside and why did he need to bring it in at 3am in the morning? 7 ... Can Oscar actually 'Walk' on his stumps or does he move himself like a thelidamite and walk with his hands. The blood trial doesn't concern me... the flecks of blood on couches and walls can easily be explained as result of Oscar carrying a bloody Reeva down the stairs. What I'm am really interesting to hear is the "Dexter' type guy... the one who can give as a picture of the events due to blood patterns. I Want To Know WHERE the hell she was positioned when those bullets come thru the door!!!??? Seems to me they would have violently impacted on her body with each shot! I do think he was on his stumps the whole time Until he spoke to his Estate manager and either thought or was told to not wait for an ambulance but drive there himself. Only Then, do I believe, he put on his prothetics and maybe that is when he thought of grabbing the duvet to place around her as he carried her down.

Of course he can walk on his stumps. His legs are gone below the knee, not above. The only issue would be standing still and trying to maintain his balance.

Presentation of these photos was a confused mess! Looks like first Oscar smashed himself into the bathroom, (room with tub and wash basing), then Reeva retreated into the little toilet room off of the 'bathroom,' trapped herself and he shot her to death through the 'toilet room door.' These guys use the terms 'bathroom' and 'toilet' interchangeably. They were two different rooms. Lots of 'xplainin for Oscar's lawyer to do here.

***** Why the sarcasm? The ONLY time OP has ever, ever, worn glasses is when he's running. They are tinted to keep the sun's glare from blinding him, and they also serve to keep his eyes protected from insects, etc. This is the first time EVER he has been seen wearing "glasses". Just like in certain high-profile trials for women, their attorneys tell them to dress very conservatively so their appearance can make a [fake] good impression, it's pretty clear to me that somebody has concluded that his wearing 'glasses' in court will be good for his image, too.

At this point his dying girlfriend was not 'evidence'. If paramedics arrive on a crime scene and are confronted with a seriously wounded person do you think they do nothing and don't touch or move the person since this would be tampering with evidence?

The language switching is a bit confusing, sometimes the witness speaks in English to emphasise something, then the interpreter repeats the same right after him in English as well. If they speak and understand English, why not reply in English and use the interpreter as and when. Or is it just their personal choice maybe.

because its SA it doesnt matter if you lieve in a gated comuunity or not the guards are paid poorly and therefore make deals with criminals DATELINE did something on oscar and if you hear someof the people on there it will confirm what i said it doesnt matter 70% of south africans have a gun in their home electric wires you name it they have..and his bathroom was being remodeled thats why he didnt have those around...no estate in SA is safe it doesnt make a difference security or not

JULIANA anddrade In my opinion..I think OP did not practice security measures like most of SA peeps do.He thought his gun was enough protection.Extra security practices do make a difference.OP could have made an effort to put simple movement alarms on his property if he was so paranoid about intruders.I think his immaturity shines bright here.I don't live in a very secure place but I practice extra security measures without a gun under my pillow.

  • @Sparrowdean

JULIANA anddrade Well here's a novel idea, why don't they consider paying the guards a living wage if they want loyalty? According to an interview on youtube with a Silverwoods rep, the whole estate is surrounded by a high wall plus high voltage electric fences on top of it, fingerprint reader at the security barrier and as the security guard testified, the houses are checked hourly and this is clocked.. Furthermore, Oscar's neighbours also had their bedroom window opened, so they weren't that fearful of intruders.

(It was actually one phone, just the back of the phone had come apart from the front). When told there was also a white one, he thought there was 3, until shown by the photographer that the black one was in 2 parts.
