That is the essence of the “Lake.” It is a very simple, fun and lightweight foldable kayak with an affordable price point.

Jim, With all due respect, have you clicked on the link to my complete Oru Kayak review? I don’t work for Oru. I don’t set their prices. They change their prices and then viewers/readers come back and say the prices are different. If you do click on the link to my review, the links in my article go to their site (with their current prices.) I have referral links, which cost you nothing. I hope this answers your comment. By the way, I went kayaking in my Oru Inlet in a gorgeous high mountain Oregon lake yesterday. Awesome paddle!

How easy is it to paddle? I have an inflatable and it has a lot of resistance compared to a hard kayak.

Hi Themi, The Oru Lake and Inlet are very easy to paddle. As I said in my review on my What a Trip blog (link above) we purchased 2 Inlet kayaks.

Hello, I think I am going to purchase the lake model. I'm curious would it be wise for me to store it assembled to keep stress off the folding points. I have plenty of room so no worries there. Thank you

I would say if you only use it like 1-5 times a year or shoot even 10 times a year it’s not going to make a big difference. Maybe if you used it everyday then I could see how you might want to try to conserve it. But it should be able to fold up thousands of times. I think Oru says like 20,000 times even.

Hi Mr. Jsv650, The Oru Facebook Users Group is very helpful for questions such as this. We fold ours after each use. Your question would be best answered by Oru moderator as they work at Oru. By the way, if you click on the link above, to my Oru Kayak review, I have an affiliate link where I receive a small commission and there is no cost to you. Also, I have a discount code if you opt to purchase any additional items such as the gel set, paddles, personal flotation devices and such. Enjoy your Lake kayak. Nancy

Hi Angela, Oru Kayak introduced the Lake via a Kickstarter campaign today, Tuesday, March 29, 2022. The initial price is $499 and will increase after they hit their targeted projection. I’m a freelance travel writer and have no affiliation with Oru Kayak. I do have a discount code for anyone interested in purchasing any kayaks or paddling gear from Oru Kayak. My complete #kayakreview is in the link above. #ORU45479

Im debating between the inlet. - i can fit a kid with me. Or the lake. Easier to assemble.

Hi Kat, I'd suggest Oru Inlet as it can hold more weight than Lake model. Oru Inlet holds 275 lbs. Have you had a chance to read my review? It also contains affiliate links (no cost to you) as well as a discount code for any Oru items you order. FYI, I'm a travel writer. I don't work for Oru. www.nancydbrown.com/oru-kayak-review/

Inlet hands down. I have both. Just took my new lake out today to a local lake. What a horrible kayak. It was like rowing a bathtub, no tracking to speak off. Also no bulkheads, no foot rest. Much much worse than inlet.

Hi Joan, Good question. As a freelance writer, I am not affiliated with Oru Kayak. I would refer you to the Oru Kayak website to watch their safety videos. My time in the “Lake” kayak was fairly brief. Had I capsized in the Lake, I would have self-righted the kayak and attempted to swim to shore with it. (I was near the shoreline.) I have two hip replacements. Realistically, the cowboy approach to re-entering the kayak while in water might not work for me. As always, wear a personal flotation device when kayaking and paddle with a buddy. #safetyfirst

With such a wide body design, cowboy re-entry probably won't be viable without damaging the boat. Many experienced Inlet owners have expressed the same kind of sentiment about attempting it. I have heard of a successful but well-practiced re-entry from the side using the paddle float technique. Oru will probably make the same recommendation that they do for the Inlet: this boat is meant for calm, flat water and near-shore activities.

@@NancyDBrown thanks, I weigh about 50lbs more and I notice in your video that the kayak is already sitting pretty low in the water. Hi Brikrat, I’m glad you enjoyed my #orukayak video. As a journalist, I realize that not everyone takes the time to read reviews.
