Nomad Life - Oru Lake Kayak Review

Hi! I wanted to post a video of my Oru Lake Kayak, showing set-up, use in the water and tear-down. It's been a great light-weight, quick assembly kayak that fits easily in the back cargo area of my Bronco.

How do you find the tracking? Even after fitting a Skeg I find mine doesn’t track well compared to a traditional solid body kayak. Guess it is a trade off for getting lightness & portability.

I agree with the trade off. I'm normally just cruising around a lake or on a slower river, so tracking isn't a top concern of mine. I would expect tracking to be better on Oru's higher-end kayaks than on this basic Lake model.

Notice you aren't using flotation bags. How is it if you flip over?

This kayak has a flat bottom and is pretty wide, so there's no chance of flipping over. But, it's made for flat water (lakes and still rivers). I wouldn't use it on any overly rough water.

Great job. How much weight is it rated for? Have you tried to fish from it? Glad put on a life jacket….

It's rated for 250 pounds total, so I could easily take camping equipment with me. I'm not doing any fishing, but I think it would work OK for handheld rod. There's really nothing to connect things to for more complicated fishing.
