    The increase speed of the LM2 Pro is also useful for White Space or Travel Speeds not just Engraving speed. So if you are engraving SLOWER, the higher Travel (non-encgraving speed will still speed up the JOB. Thanks for the comparison. Just the info I was looking for.

    Thank you for the information! I bought the LM2Pro and the housing a few weeks back and have it running quite nominaly. I didn't like the fact that you pretty much join the housing to the actual laser, but I needed it to stop fumes and smoke in my working area. I see that they are now offering the extension kit for it - which doesn't fit with the $400+ housing I just bought! It doesn't seem like the designers at Ortur are quite forward thinking with new products and backwards capabilities.

    Yeah that laser shield is pretty nice. I haven't been able to find it as a stand alone item and was even thinking of making my own before I was offered the new machine. I had actually already cut a window out of a spare set of glasses I had laying around. You can buy the new laser on the Ortur.net website along with the motherboard but the costs may add up pretty quickly and you may get to the cost of a new machine and still not have the nicer all metal construction.

    I am using my current laser engraver to do personalization on wooden card trays that have pieces attached that are from 1" to 2" tall above the engraving surface. These pieces MUST be cleared by the laser tip and housing during engraving, or they would strike the piece and move the object, causing failure of the engraving. My laser has a variable focus which allows me to have the laser unit far enough away from the engraving surface to achieve this arrangement. With the fixed-focus laser modules, is there enough clearance between the work surface and the laser tip for this to work in my situation (assuming that I remove the plastic laser protective assembly)? It looks like there is not enough clearance.

    I’m not sure of the exact distance and I’m not around my machine right this second but I know for sure I have had it at least an inch up since I was cutting through wood I had sitting on a metal vent I was using for separation from the spoil board. Also I known that when people have needed to engrave on higher objects they either 3D print or just place blocks under the feet to raise the entire machine higher. That way you can engrave really at any height you need.

  • @BusterBeagle3D

    @BusterBeagle3D

    2 жыл бұрын

    Oh sorry I see what you are saying now. No I don’t think these would clear the piece you are working on. You would either need a manual focus or one of the fixed focus versions that is LF which is long focus. Not even sure that would be tall enough.

    This whole field is new to me so I have many questions and I realize that some of them may sound a bit silly. I'm 79 years old but have never stopped trying to learn new things. My first question is can you explain what an "air assist" is and what it's purpose might be? If I'm going to buy any laser, I want something that can be upgraded with things that may make it better. But, at the same time, I'm not made of money so cost is a factor for my first unit. Mainly, I want to be able to sign my woodworking projects so being able to put taller things under the laser is important. Can you explain how a person might go about putting something of 6 inches in height under the laser for signing? Will I have to mount the laser on an open foundation with an adjustable table beneath it? Thank you for your time and for creating these review videos.

    If all you want to do is add a signature to wood pieces I would highly recommend the Laserpecker machine. You can find a video about it on my channel. An air assist is used when cutting as it removes the char to make for a cleaner cut without burning.
