Original Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera - Rig Update 2020

Фильм және анимация

#blackmagicdesign #bmpcc #cinematic
The biggest update from the last BMPCC video is the way I'm powering the camera now. I owned a Feelworld MA5 monitor (amzn.to/3avCZhr) that I was already using on the GH5 (amzn.to/2Uu0l1o). It provides an 8.4v DC OUTPUT, so I bought another one and am using it to power the BMPCC.
Here's a link to the battery adapter/solution that I mentioned in the first video: amzn.to/2Us9OWS
Also, I recommend this metabones-EF adapter: tinyurl.com/ty8np26

Nigel! A treat to see your comment, and that you watched the video. I'm a subscriber to your channel, and a fan of your work. Shots in my office are on a c100 mk1 with a Sennheiser MKE 600 shotgun mic on-camera via xlr. The stuff outside "vlog style" is with a Rode Videomic pro plus on the 80d. The c100 provides 48v phantom power to the MKE 600. I don't always, but in this case I did some processing in Audition, and then re-synched in post. I added a little compression - multiband, decrease the low frequencies - and give it a slight boost at around 3800 hz which is right around where my voice sits. Thanks!

Thanks for the great tips for getting the most out of an original BMPCC. Powering that camera is a real bugger, but running an 8.4V DC out to an 12V DC in adversely affects the lifespan of the camera. I recommend using the 8.4V DC out source to a dummy battery or getting a dedicated 12V DC out power solution (like a D-tap battery or specially designed 12V accessories).

One interesting option is the Kiev-16U vintage Soviet lenses. Google KIEV-16U Vintage Lenses For Video to learn more. Three mini lenses and you’ll need the adapter. One of the “easiest” plug and play lenses with IS is the LUMIX 12-35. I would pick this over the mini vintage trio but both are interesting options.

Hey Wyatt, loved the video! I was wondering if you were having any battery problems powering the bmpcc through an external monitor. This was how I planned to power the camera but had read online of some people experiencing the camera powering down when the battery went below around 50%. Apparently it's because the monitor only supplies 8.4 Volts of power and the camera requires 12V of power. Have you had any problems with the battery monitor solution and also what is the battery life like? Thanks, Lucas

  • @FilmPhotowithMatt

    @FilmPhotowithMatt

    4 жыл бұрын

Thanks Lucas, and I haven't run into any issues, other than the NPF battery on the monitor drains a little faster when it's also powering the camera. This particular monitor, the Feelworld, gives an accurate reading of the remaining battery life, so I switch them out.

You need to get older version SD cards, unfortunately, that requires a bit of investigation. Blackmagic website is quite informative though. I have had this from Amazon: SanDisk Extreme PRO 128 GB SDXC UHS-I It's pricey but works 100% well. I record c dng on it, can get around 30 mins.

Is there anyone who uses this camera with a JuicedLink BMC388?

I don't understand how the bmpcc could work with 8v power as it normally needs 12v power...

Why on gods green earth would you plug the 8.4v into the 12v port? You’re gonna blow the monitor or the cameras charging port. Use that to a dummy battery instead or get one with a 12v out.

I bought the new BMPCC4k and sold it, why? The original BMPCC has a cinematic image quality that the new ones don’t have. The film quality footage we get out of the box in this camera can’t be match.

Hi Melissa! I did the same thing. I now have 3 as I'm scared of not being able to continue to use it if something goes wrong as BM won't repair or support these any longer. You can see my work with these on my channel. I'd love to share tips and tricks with you sometime. Such an incredible camera.

Hey brother. I use both the BMPCC and BMCC 2.5K. Some of the best looking cameras ever created. Check out the "South Dakota" video on my channel for an original BMPCC video with heavy color grade. The "Holt Collier" documentary was filmed on the BMCC with B-Cam shots from the BMPCC. Also, I'm based out of Oxford, MS. I noticed your Land Bank hat. We need to connect sometime. Take care!

Do you want to sell your rig?? ha finding a rig has been next to impossible. I not sure why ebayers sell their rigs with their camera. They can make more money by just selling the rigs!
