Why I Bought the Original BMPCC (again) in 2020

I decided to buy the original Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera (again) and here are the reasons why.
Gear mentioned : Smallrig Battery Plate for BMPCC : amzn.to/2DYspEf
Cheap 14-42mm zoom lens : amzn.to/32NY05X
So a few weeks ago I made a surprising purchase and I just wanted to make a video explaining why I decided to do this, in 2020.
I know it doesn’t make sense financially or even for content.
Especially since I own the bmpcc6k and with newly announcement cameras like the Eos R5 it makes even less sense to get a camera like this.
Let me know what you think and if you have any question in the comment :).

I would disagree. I don't care how good your story is, and I probably wouldn't even give your film a chance to find out how good the story is, if it's shaky and looks like it was filmed on a children's toy camcorder. Bad image can bring someone right out of the story just as much as bad audio can, and I personally wouldn't even bother to make a film if it wasn't going to look as beautiful as something that would come out of Hollywood.

@@kieranarmstrongproductions4743 I’ve made many crap small projects and shorts that don’t look great. I’m talking when you’re setting out to make your first official film, don’t screw it up look-wise. Nobody’s gonna give anything a chance if it looks cheesy and low budget. Everyone can afford gear that’s capable of Hollywood-level appearance nowadays, no excuses. Everyone looks over image for some reason... there wouldn’t even be a film if it weren’t for the image. It’s art. I want it to look like art, not a cheesy commercial.

It is so amazing to me how a 2011 camera is still one of the few cameras, 9 years later, that can shoot Raw and ProRes internally, and with such great colors and look, in fact it looks closest to film than most cameras.

It's actually explainable. The BMPCC pixels are much, much larger than the BMPCC4K camera. This gives you this cinematic feeling you feel. I also never ever want to sell my BMPCC, it's truly a unique camera. And just getting more and more unique due to camera companies focusing on large megapixel counts and therefore smaller pixels.

I learned travel photojournalism 40 years ago, transitioned to event photography, moved onto natural history videography, always on a low budget. bang for buck, this is the best video camera for me, because I'm fine with shooting manual. I prefer it. And you're right, even though it's only 1080p digital sensor, matched with a nice bit of glass it just brings back an old school visual quality that's a real love it or hate it look. I'm one of the many who love it. Got mine at auction online for $650 Australian, or about $500 US, with two batteries and a battery plate. Absolute steal for what it is capable of.

You know, your channel is probably the main reason I decided to buy this little camera! Unfortunately I’ve been lacking time to really try it out and I almost forgot that I have it. This, combined with the fact that I bought a heavy not stabilized lens (4/3 with an adapter, not micro) and that the shooting and editing are a little more complicated that I anticipated, resulted in considering to give it away. But yeah, you’re kinda selling it again ahaha I’ll try it out more seriously this time

I purchased an OG BMPCC at the end of last year; I'm just starting out, and wanted something with a really good image. Regarding all the negatives that are said about it, I don't really care, other than the monitor. The monitor is terrible, and when I have the budget, I will be purchasing an external monitor. However, I think it's great to learn on. Being that it's fully manual, there is nothing to help you get good footage (ok, there is auto-focus, however I'm using vintage Nikon mount lenses with a 'dumb' adapter, so for me auto-focus is not an option). It forces you to really learn how to use the camera correctly. It also forces you to learn color grading. But, that image!!!

I sold mine a few months back. I liked how it was actually pocket size with a great picture. I disliked having to find the right media, battery, having to be super careful with the inputs for fear it would break. All those little things add up. I wish they would have created the BMPCC4K in the same body with better/upgraded parts, make it able to take multiple types of media and a better battery solution. I get the why I loved it in the first place though. The 4k isn't the same. It seemed like the pixels on it were unique. May have been just me...
