😊Hi Ali! I had the same issues. I did what Dawn (Minimal Mom) suggested. I placed all of my daily stuff in one easy to reach basket in the restroom. (Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, hairbrush, medication, sunscreen, lotion, vitamins, etc.) I was able to eliminate wasted time and frustration. I like having all of the essentials in one space with no lid. Grab and drop stuff back in. Any additional stock items can be organized in designated/labeled containers and locations. I really like your style! I hope you do some videos with Dawn in the future. Your ideas are great too! Best wishes to you always.

Girl!!! Same! If it has a lid - good luck with keeping things in order. Especially if the lid latches. Oof, it won’t happen. I do a lot of those wire shelf things for stacking. Mine are flat and don’t have the base, much like what you ended up using. I think it was Cass that referenced things needing to be easy to put away. Also, you’re lucky you get your Prime deliveries so fast!!! Such a satisfying video! ❤

I have drawers in my linen cupboard in the bathroom for my medications, too. I have them centered on the door so I can open them fully, and I stack heavier liquid/upright items on the shelf next to the drawers. I live in an apartment with wire shelving so my options are limited.

I love lids because I'm a hidden organizer and for practical reasons like keeping lint and dust out but my partner is a visual 'organizer' and could never maintain that type of system. Your new approach looks like it will work really well for all organizational styles in the family.

Hello Ali, Organization also depends on the type of organization style you are. Some like to hide and other are visual. I had such a hard time with my spice cabinet. 100 yr old house I rent does not have typical dimensions. I had to try out a lot of items and had to live with the side spaces. I just keep them clear more and have that as a weekend cleaning check. I just wish they made cabinets with out the lips edges. That would be the same size as the doors for easy storage solutions, But that is not the case of my situation. Also, I reuse the Naked Juice single serving Bottles for my pill medication. They are convenient to have since medication bottles varies in size and makes for easy storage. I label them with the dose and expiration date so I can dispose them when expired. I tend to sort through them on my shopping days on a regular to keep fresh supply. Walking your home and taking inventory is made easier to create the shopping list a less daunting experience. I live in a very small 3 bedroom home with little pantry space. This has helped me to get on a routine to always keep my expiration dates good.

I keep my personal every day medication and vitamins in a separate basket, common medications in another basket right next to it, and there is a small basket also next to them for a current medication. For example if we need to take cold medicine, we put it in a small basket for “frequent use” so we don’t have to deal with a whole big container . After we get better it goes back to the main basket. I try to buy very few meds because they are not cheap :))

You have to find what works for you and what doesn't. It took me over two years to figure ot out. For me, I have to use clear bins and baskets for some things. No lids work best for me. I use some acrylic low bins that works best for me for small things.

Our house has two closets in which the shelves are 26 inches deep and 10 inches wide. For 10 years, I have tried to work out a scheme to maximize the space not only to be fully used but also to be easy to access. So far, nothing has worked. I think the only remedy would be to hire a carpenter to come in and build some pull out drawers; however, I cannot afford that.😢

For me, I like having closed storage in the sense that items are out of sight in a cabinet or drawer, and counters are clear, but INSIDE the cabinet/drawer, I like clear bins so I can see where to go. Having some type of pull-out bins is excellent, or a lazy susan. For frequently used meds, a clear lazy susan with sides might be good, too. Those recessed areas behind the door frame are a pain, but you could put seldom used items there, or larger items like the peroxide and alcohol (which are also kinda heavy for the bins, possibly). Depending on how tall your kids are, having the bins on a lower shelf might be helpful, too. It's good to see why one type of system does or doesn't work, and to evaluate why. Those previous, lidded plastic bins would be good for seldom used things. 😊

it's not that hard to add a new shelf. Just measure the width and depth of the closet, and go to Home Depot, or better yet, an old-fashioned hardware store. Have them cut a new shelf the width of the closet (have it cut about 1/8" shy) and two pieces of one by one, Measure the height needed of the new shelf and place the one by one just underneath that. Glue and screw in to the side of the closet. Do the same thing on the other side, then put the new shelf on top. Having someone cut the wood is a game changer.

I’m not sure what you’re seeing, but we only have a couple different pain relievers and maybe 2 indigestion relievers. We have multiple bottles of the same medications. Especially for children’s medicine because they are tiny bottles with few tablets in each. I hate to run out in the middle of the night when one of my kids would need it. Also, we are a family of 6. We need more than 2 people.
