hi, i am a cricket, (and i have ptsd, so i get easily overwhelmed) so i have piles of "to be filed..." or rather, i DID have piles... your recent video on paper organization helped me so much. it was scary and it took a bit to get the courage to change my system, but i did (i still need proper containers, but they are sorted for now). it lifted such a weight off once it was done. i told my psychologist about it this morning and she was so proud of me. (i am mentioning it here because you kind of hit on those categories in this video). thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experiences. my home is still a work in progress, but you have helped me more than you will ever know.

I hear you on this. Sometimes I wanna be a cricket, but I realized, if I need to find a paper, I can just as easily flip through a single basket of papers almost just as easily. I found I wouldn't make time to file each paper in the proper section. Very freeing indeed!!!!

I cracked up with the new blue Jean story! It reminded me of the time I bought a brand new purple shirt for my husband. He wore it without it first being washed. It was a very hot fall day and we left for an event. It was so hot we were all drenched with sweat. We got back home, he took off his shirt and everywhere the shirt was- he was purple! 😂 Since that time we’ve made sure EVERYTHING new got washed (separately) before even wearing. We still to this day laugh so hard about that day! 😂

I grew up in the 70’s as the youngest of 4, both my parents worked full time (my Mom third shift), our house was always neat and clean. We were taught quite young to put our things away. Dishes were never left in the sink. We never had more than the house could handle but we had plenty of what we needed. There was no Alexa, no robo-things,, no KZread, just good old fashioned cleaning. We earned money for savings by doing chores; .10 for dusting, .25 for vacuuming and a whopping $1.00 for washing floors or mowing the lawn! We were lucky to have such a balanced home. I realize not everyone is. Today’s organization just seems so extra, maybe that’s just me ?

we were three children and everyone of us..had their own space and the responsibility to keep it tidy and clean...my mom used to be a teacher before she stayed at home to raise us while dad earned the families income..so experienced a pretty structured family life...loving parents and the rule was everyone helps one another when he can..also, when my dad went to the office..he said..we children would go to OUR office/work..i.e. school...so that made us feel important and capable to face the day ahead...and mom was the Magic of All....looking back I sometimes do not know how she did it all...WITHOUT the gadgets of today..or an Alexa..or a computer or YT-advice or a dishwasher..or a cableless vaccuum cleaner.. We also did not get money for our helping..we got praise and Thankfulness..Only later when we were Teenagers..my parents allowed us to earn some pocket money..for picking strawberries on a nearby farmers field...and this also felt very special... simpler days...:)

As someone who wasn't diagnosed with adhd until I was 30 I always thought I was just awful, lazy, and disorganized. Comments like these also make me feel that way. I'm glad you had such an incredible family life growing up that you learned the tools it takes to have a tidy home. Not all of us did. So while it might seem extra to you, it's life changing to others.

First, listening to audiobooks while cleaning is EVERYTHING. I used to read a lot, but don’t have time anymore. I felt so sad that I was missing out on so much great literature. Then, five years ago I discovered AUDIOBOOKS. I love my life again. Second, I’m surprised you don’t have a grocery list that you can tell Alexa to add things you need from the store to. I have a grocery list in my lists on my phone. When I’m cooking, if I run out of curry, for example, I just keep on working in the moment whilst casually saying “Hey Siri, add Curry Powder to my Grocery List” and it’s there for me whenever I’m in the grocery store next! Hopefully this helps YOU as much as YOU’VE helped me!

I love all of these suggestions but we live in a townhouse with very limited closets, no walk in pantry, no garage, no real entryway area for coats, boots etc, and not really a place for bins. Things like our vacuum cleaners really annoy me because they just sit out since there are no closets for them. I would love to see a video incorporating these ideas into smaller living spaces for full-size families.

It’s so frustrating not to have storage! We don’t have any hallways in our house, or anything like a linen closet, just 2 small 1920s clothing closets, and out front door opens right into the middle of our living room. No garage either, so we have to be creative with entryway storage. Vacuum lives behind a chair in a corner of the dining room :(

One of the greatest laundry hacks was briefly pictured but not discussed: having a place to put clothes that have been worn but are still clean enough to wear again. As another KZreadr pointed out, if they're clean enough to put back on your body, they're clean enough to put back in the closet. 😄 I use a garment bag as a divider and just hang 'em up. : - ) 👚👖

Cas .. when you buy new clothes add a half cup of table salt to the first washing of it. The salt 'sets' the dyes and they wont bleed onto other items. Learned that trick many years ago and it really does work. Life changer for me. Now i just throw all my clothes in together and wash on cold and nothing ever bleeds and i dont have to waste time separating items nor have smaller piles sitting around waiting for like items to make up a load.

Pardon, do you mean that you do the initial wash together with your regular load of laundry, but just add salt to that load, or do you do a separate wash for the new item with the salt so it will be ready to wash with the regular load next time?

@@blaireshoe8738 .. I just put it all in together with the salt in the first washing of the new items. I used to work in the men's department in a large dept store and without fail all the returns of items that had been ruined in the wash they had used Tide detergent. When I learned about the salt trick, from then on every item I sold I'd recommend them to wash in a milder detergent and add salt to the first wash. Several of them came back later to thank me for the tip. I should have edited my first comment to say approximately 1/3 cup of salt instead of 1/2 .. it's not an exact science. I usually just swirl the salt box once or twice around the tub.

Yes...New dark wash jeans, especially. Wash them several times with just darks and also exfoliate after wearing them or you could be like me and end up with a mysterious rash I could figure out for weeks. Saw the dr and was given a topical cream that didn't help. I decided to cost my thighs in coconut oil to soothe my skin and noticed blue oozing from my pores. It was my jeans. They had been washed several times and worn a dozen or more times by then (I wash jeans about every 3 or 4 wears or so)...once I saw a tinge of blue, I showered and really exfoliated and you would not believe how the blue dye ran down ! I was stunned! Never happened to me before or since, but something to be aware of!

I have 3 dogs; who hang out in the kitchen or a dog run in the attached garage during the day while I'm working. I just got a baby monitor and that was a game changer- it has a camera on one end and a tablet-like monitor on the other! Now I can see when my clever male has just opened the dog door and about to enter the house, and he is astonished that I know that! It even has a talk function. Fabulous. Yes, funny at the end, but I really think it is better to sort laundry by colors and wash in warm not cold. There's a product called "Color Catcher" that also helps for mixed loads. I do most laundry on one day, sorting roughly by color, and also do a separate load of underwear to wash on hot. Then hang delicates, and all else can be dried. Fold loads coming out of the dryer. The next day, iron any shirts that were hung and ensure everything is put away. If there is too much bedding can be done on the next day, especially once a quarter to wash bed protectors, blankets, and comforters. I have not graduated to doing laundry on cold since warm or hot kills viruses. But warm requires the clothes to be sorted by color! And I guess cold sometimes does too :-).

It is organized by food type and then also in order of how it's laid out in the grocery store so I never miss an item. I simply uncheck the item if I need it and then check it off when it's in my cart. I give the whole list a quick glance every time before heading to the store to make sure I'm not missing something we might need. It's so handy! Another great video, Cas! Thanks for the tips! Love your hair! :)

You, my dear are amazeballs! I too have a colorful language to keep me from swearing (started that when I learned I was about to become a Mom almost 21 years ago). Following your page, I have donated, gifted, and thrown out so much. Yes, I am purchasing storage items and even grabbed that Mop, but it is changing my life. I have Fibromyalgia and slipped in the bathtub last year and messed myself up pretty bad. Hubby, needs double knee replacement and Baby Girl is off to college - a sista needs help and you my friend have inspired me so much, I am told I have inspired others. I'm better stewarding over what I have, realizing ~ why would God bless me with my dream home if I don't properly steward over the home he did bless us with. #Amazeballs #Confirmation #DeclutteringForReal #ThankYou

Yes, synthetic fabrics are much harder to dye than natural fabrics. Your cotton towel and robe are among the easiest things to dye! What a nice color they turned!

  • @trinaroe5132

You can also buy Shout Color Catcher sheets and throw them in the wash with mixed loads. It pulls the dyes into the sheet which you can toss. As someone who is old enough to have had Home Ec and sewing in school, polyester does not take dye well, even when you want to dye it. Cotton and natural fibers take dye much better.

Hi, Cass! I have a pad on the fridge that is for writing anything we are running out of. I also have a designated spot for random things. My family is slowly getting the hang of it. I am slowly getting my little house to the way I want it. I am picking a project each month. This month is scaling down the bins to 4 memory bins. This activity will get everyone involved. So each person has 31 days this month to get their memories into one bin. I figured that I am not the only one that made memories and I shouldn't be the only one that tackles this project. Please keep the videos going. I love them. You inspire me to do what I know needs to be done. This weekend I will finish the closet I told you about with my Mom's clothes. Meanwhile I am checking around to see if there is a place I can take the suits, business-like attire because I don't work that type of job and I figure that someone out there that loves to dress like my Mom loved to dress would benefit and love the clothing. Again, thank you for the push.

We have a Roomba on a timer that vacuums the wall-to-wall carpeting daily. The light weight cordless vacuum is also a game changer. I also have a big basket, under a table by my front door, where my Madge's coats and bits and bobs go in. Also a tray to put the wet umbrella on, and wellies under this table. I live in a small house, with very little space, and my downstairs is open plan, so have to think outside the box when organizing where to put stuff, as I have very little wall space. This is one of your best videos, Cas. I already do almost all of these things (that cleaning tote with room for collecting items out of place is new to me and is legit genius!). My house isn't quite minimalism enough to keep it tidy, but I give stuff away every day on Buy Nothing, so I'm getting there! Also, you should always wash new clothes (by themselves or with rags you don't care if they get bled on), bc new clothes have Sizing on them. It's a type of starch that irritates a lit od people's skin. And we don't need any more unnecessary chemicals in our lives anyway. Also, Shout Color Catchers work really well, after you've washed something once or twice and want to be sure it isn't still bleeding color. And the key to the Rando Basket is emptying it once a week, or on some regular schedule. That's where I fail !! Love your work, Cas, but I often feel guilty when I see a new video pop up, bc I feel like you work too much. And since it's for us, your fans, I feel guilty. 😅
