OPT7 60” Redline Triple LED Tailgate Lightbar w/Sequential Amber Turn (4th Gen Ram) Installation

In this video we are going to show you how to install an OPT7 LED Tailgate Light bar on our 2018 RAM 2500 or any 4th gen. Instead of quick connectors and butt connectors we chose to solder in an extra harness connection to our existing trailer connection module by de-pinning it so we could hide the light bar wiring completely under the bed. This also provides you the use of your 4 pin connector for towing at the same time. We are using a butane soldering iron which is my preferred choice for solder connections on most anything. Hopefully this video helps you with determining what specific light bar you may want and how to install it on your 4th Gen Ram Truck. Follow us as we have more content and mods COMING SOON!

I only soldered these because I also installed a trailer harness inside the bed for hauling a fifth wheel or goose.

Curt makes a 7 to 5 pin T connector that simply plugs in to the back of the existing trailer connector and with the 5th pin you don't have to do anything to the backup lights other than put a Plug on the end and use the 5th pin on the connector! Easy no wiring to do other than connections!

If you would of used the CURT 56584 Replacement Vehicle-Side Custom USCAR 5-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness you wouldn't of had to splice into anything ... you could of added a bullet connector to the white wire which is your back up lights and connected it that way ... the last pin connector on the harness is your back up lights that is where the white wire will go into it ...

I already have a similar adapter being used for the trailer harness that goes to the fifth wheel in the bed. I used a similar connection to the backup lights but rather than a bullet connector I opted to use a weather proof single pin connection. Because the wire was so long it was easier to just tap into the tail lights and place that connector in an area that is easier to disconnect rather than up behind the bumper and spare tire. There are a 100 ways someone can wire this up, this is how I decided to tackle it and it works well.

99% of the trucks I see with this mod have many dead pixels on their bar, or half the bar has stopped working completely. LEDs like constant and consistent current, so adding a 1000uf capacitor before the first LED might improve your luck. It also wouldn't hurt to run those signal wires (Reverse, Brakes, etc) through some relays. Just as we add a relay for our Remote Accessory Turn-On Wire when we significantly increase its load, it's also not a bad idea to run the lights signal wires through a relay as we have also significantly increased its load. Another thing to try would be to get an 8-15V to 12V Voltage Regulator and mount it near the beginning of the strip, as it will produce an optimal current for the strip to maintain its health. Lastly is waterproof rating... I see a lot of strips claiming to be IP68, when they're really low grade IP67... Real IP68 strips are fully encased from top to bottom in a thick layer of injected silicone with no outer sleeve. From my experience, strips with IP67 ratings do not last on the outside of a vehicle.

Good option for reverse lights. I personally wouldn't connect the rest of the lights. Not my thing.

BigB10774 I like the quality of it and I actually like the sequential turns for visibility. If your towing with a ram, best to cover the screen so it doesnt blind you . Mainly the screen because it is bright already. Thanks for watching!
