Yes I have memory of buying my first Opinel. My wife and I were on vacation in a small port city on the Olympia Peninsula here in Washington called Port Townsend. I can never pass up an outdoor store without going in. In the case was a banana shaped knife like nothing I had ever seen before. It was an old style Opinel #9. The price was only $10 back then. I was hooked when I carved a butter knife that night at camp. It came razor sharp. Thanks for asking for a memory. I hadn’t thought about it for ages. I still have it today. 🎸🔪

Great job, buddy! This Opinel is probably about 60 years old, since it does not have a viroblock (and on the blade of the knife you can see a mark corresponding to that time). I have an Opinel of about the same age (and with the same mark on the blade) only I have an Opinel No. 9. My Opinel has its own story, its owner is an elderly Italian. He gave this knife to my friend, and he in turn gave it to me . Just like you, I cleaned and sharpened it and still use this knife. Thanks for the video and your work!

I like leather work of all kinds. I’ve done quite a bit of it over the years. I’m part Native American, so my favorite style of knife sheath would be Native American Woodlands style. They are usually fringed and sometimes beaded or quilled, and the knife slides almost completely inside the sheath, with only a small part of the pommel exposed. This is so it is not likely to be lost while hunting.🤗🐝❤️

I lost my father almost a year ago and i inherited his tools. Most of them were passed down to him from my great grandfather making me the fourth generation to own them. They all hold a special place in my heart. I've restored a lot of them but i have a lot more to go. These are the tools my father taught me to use when I was a kid in the 70s so they all hold a lot of sentimental value to me but my favorite has to be a colonial (1590-1700) era 5th foot Bladesmith hornless anvil that has been in my family since it was new and all the men in my dads side of the family have used it. I can only imagine the stories it could tell after being on this earth for around 400 years. I am truly honored to have it to pass down to the next generation.

Years ago I was able to purchase one in each size that had been modified by replacing the wood handles with stag. I also own a No. 8 that was manufactured by Opinel with different types of wool laminated together to form the handle, I plan on replacing the stainless blade on that knife with a carbon blade.
