Opening up the Defective 105AH BLS LifePo4 Battery. Why DOA?

Popping this baby open to see if there are any obvious manufacturing defects to explain why it arrived DOA. Also need to determine the Depth limits of re-tapping to a larger size.

You're a very brave man,I just received 4* 90ah cells, from Alie, one of them has a lousy screwhole, I works but just barely, these seem nice cels especially for the money, but the terminals are damn tiny, I have some Winston cells and the are a little better for the terminals ( allso 90 ah) been running them for almost five years for solar without a problem, 12v system WITHOUT BMS, max charge between 13.9 volt and cutoff point at 13 volt, I'm planning to put these much tinier cels in parallel for more amps, hope it will work out, keep up making these vids, very informative, thanks

how thick is the copper on the neg side before you hit the pouch tabs? as in if you drill into the copper under the aluminium how thick before you would hit the spot welded tabs under the plate?

how this is the container? can some small mechanical damage on container damage the battery cell inside? Are those batteries cells in some separate mechanical strong protection inside? on video can't see that good - looks like something rigid inside.

thanks mate. I dropped one of my 280AH cell and dented the shell in one corner by 1/4 of an inch. From your video it Looks like the actual cells and outer shell has decent room in between so assuming a small dent in one corner shouldn't cause any issue.

matching cells isn't easy. batteries may have the same capacity but can still run out at different times and trip a pack shutdown early, because of different internal resistance. top balancing helps with matching cells with matching capacity and resistance. But if unmatched they will still shutdown early, because of different internal resistance and when you then recharge them together. they still trip a pack shutdown early, because of different internal resistance. I'm starting to love lead acid.

Yes, but Re-Tapping the Terminals did not produce a reliable and strong long term Thread so I had to Helicoil all of them. Made a 4 part video on exactly what I did, why I did it and how I did it. LifePo4 Cell Terminal Helicoiling (Intro) 1 of 4 kzread.info/dash/bejne/ppmkutemqNTZhJM.html

Nice video, very informative, thanks. One of my 8 prismatic cells, Lifepo4, went accidentally up to 4.0 volts for some 10 minutes; it now has less capacity than the other 7; do you think that the 4.0 volts caused that,or was it weak to begin with ? It's a long story, an Aliexpress ripoff, i got scammed by an Aliexpress seller who sold me the cells as being 300 Ah, and they turn out to be less than 120 Ah; have a dispute going on, but they are proposing a return and refund, instead of a partial refund, which is also another ripoff, because to send them back to China will cost me over 1000 euros/dollars, besides a lot of paperwork and time ,they weight 40 kgs,or 88 pounds; They were shipped "locally"from Germany to Portugal, here, but i read that they always want them to be shipped back to China, which of course leads to everyone having to keep the defective goods. Cells are brand new, factory SS inserts in the aluminum M8 threads and all, they have the size, weight (5.3Kgs!) and looks of the real 300 Ah Calb cells ,how could they be made so defective inside, with only 1/3rd of the possible capacity? They have no QR code, and no sticker stating any kind of capacity, only a paper sticker saying Lifepo4 , and the 2.5 Volts min.and 3.65 Volts max

...if you subscribe to my channel I'll tell you, PLEASE =) ...you know..I was thinking that since I went down with some and probably the wall are a bit thin and might crack....I suppose that as long at the bolt is well tight and the cell its kept vertically I don't think there'll be oxidation or some leak of any sort...but I should make a video about the cell and see how long they will last.

Will someone please invent a BMS that charges and discharges cells independently? With an ability to use cells that have not shut down. So when one or to cells run out, they don't shut them all down. unmatched packs often shut down with 24-25 volts. Good BMS whould buck or boost remaining voltage of a pack ,until all cells have been used.

sure would have been nice if you gad a Dremel after all of that and no answer at all as to the makeup if the terminal in regards to depth and bigger hole size but a good video anyway. It looked as though the terminals are one piece so going to larger hole size would be ok just not on the depth

If I was paying for this video I would want my money back ;-) On a more serious note, how about opening one of those cells properly next time? I was really curious if these are real pouch cells, or do they just stuff lots of 18650s in there for example.

I did just that, but the manufacturer was unsatisfied on my word alone that the Cell was in fact defective. Thus the reason for this Video. It also shows others what actually happens inside when a bad Cell is received and therefore is likely to deter others from taking there's apart to see if they can "fix" it.....you cannot! Manufacturer sent me a brand new replacement and the old one was properly disposed of.
