Couple of safety issues & suggestions here: 1. Please, for the love of God, if your gonna run the hot & ground wire through the case, use a grommet so the wires don't chafe and short out. 2. Suggestion for version 2: see if you can wire in/DIY a foot switch. Maybe salvage one from an old sewing machine? 3. Suggestion for version 2: mount a heavy duty alligator clip on your negative probe, and mount the positive probe on an overhead handle so all you have to do is touch it for the spot weld. The alligator clip will help you get a better grip to hold the nickle strip to the battery, as well as supply the ground for the spot welder.

@vinnyboombatz1399 you have to move the - close the the + each time you do a spot weld it's not the same as arc or mig welding but I'll admit I thought the same thing as you at first. And I agree the way the wires are run through the casing is just asking for a short circuit lol I would def use a grommet or rubber hose to insulate better

I would advise a few things for safeties sake here. A thick metal bucket half filled with sand, and some extra cable protection as it exits the case to protect the insulation from getting damaged and shorting things out. Expect some of the Lithium Ion cells to not like this welder and start gassing and worse, when they do use the bucket and get them outside fast. Just search here for lithium battery fire and explosions. Really people be safe, this is not for the faint of heart.

without adjusting the current - it really threatens to explode the battery.

I would strongly recomend matching the cells before re-installing. Run a few charge/discharge cycles. Odds are really good that your #1going to have a fire or #2 your going to have the battery back open because the 2 older cells cant keep up with the new ones. If its only 5 cells replace them all.. But replace them with cells that you know there capacitys. Matching cell capacities is critical. If you dont have a hobby charger (imax b6, sky rc, thunder, prophet, etc) then i eould say dont take on the lithiumbattery repair/swap. Often times the control board is whats bad anyways.

You don't need to match capacities, that's the point of a battery balancing system.

@@ixamraxi your mistaken. The bms wont operate as advertised if you dont pre match the cells. Please allow me to save you some time and effort. Match your cells and always check each cells internal resistance. If you do those 2 things your battery packs will last a long long time. Years and years. Especially important if your using recovered cells from laptops etc.. You can buy a hobby charger like a sky rc imax b6 for less then $50. It will charge and discharge. It will balance charge up to 6 lith-ion cells. And it will check your internal resistance. If your getting a ebike and you tinker absolutely get one. I have 4 of them so i can analyze cells i recover faster.

@@kennedy6971 It will, modern bms systems will simply limit all cell performance/capacity to the lowest one, which improves longevity of the pack as the cells slowly degrade over time. You could get slightly better performance by pre-balancing, but generally individual cells are close enough in manufacturing quality that once charged you can check internal resistance and grab a set that all show the same voltage and be confident their capacities are close enough to the advertised value that the bms will sufficiently protect them for the expected lifespan. I would seriously doubt any claim that major manufacturers are balancing more than this.

@@ixamraxi The only problem that I see with what you've written is that it only applies if you already know FOR SURE what the specs of your batteries are but we arent talking about that kind of scenario. In this video the batteries used to replace the bad batteries are probably not from the same manufacturer as the original batteries. The fella in the video doesnt say where the replacement batteries come from or how old or used they are. Neither does he show that he tested ANY of the batteries for ANYTHING. All of this matters more than you might think. Lets say that the batteries in the drill pack are LG's, rated for 1500mah's so you grab several random replacement batteries based upon the fact that those replacement batteries are also rated to have a capacity of 1500mah. What if the LG's remaining in the pack are NOT 1500mah anymore? And are you sure that those random replacement batteries are still 1500mah as well?-or ever were? AND are you sure that the replacement batteries are rated for the max continuous current draw that battery operated power tools like a circular saw demand? And are you sure that even if the replacement batteries have a high enough max continuous current draw rating to properly run a battery operated tool, does that rating match up with the max continuous current draw rating of the LG batteries that remain in the battery pack? 18650s put into power tool battery packs have a max continuous current draw rating of around 30amps and up. Your run of the mill 18650 removed from a laptop pack usually has a max continuous current rating of less than 2amps!! Now, imagine trying to pull 30+ continuous amps from a lithium battery designed to tolerate less than a 2amp continuous output. Can you say FIRE!? There is a whole lot more to "matching up batteries" than simply getting the capacity ratings listed on their outer covers as close as possible. Speaking of which, lets go back to that part of the topic. I recently pulled a bunch of LG 1500mah batteries from two 5 year old, aftermarket 18v Ryobi battery packs that werent charging anymore. One 18650 "cell" in each pack had gone bad. The rest of the batteries from each pack were good BUT all tested out at just 75% to 85% their originally rated capacity. Its normal for lithium batteries to lose capacity over time and use, so unless you test them, you have absolutely no idea if a used lithium battery still has its original capacity or not. So yeah. Im with all the folk in here who recommend making sure that you know the "TRUE" stats of your batteries by testing each before using any of them in a project such as the one shown in this video. As I said, there is MUCH more to these 18650 batteries than simply throwing a bunch with similar capacities together in a pack.

I love the idea to use old PC power as box since it already have the connector and on/off switch! 👍 I think I will do the same as you for my next one. This said, my suggestion, don't spot weld with charged battery since it's then they can start a fire. Discharge them to like 20% (Like 3.2 volts), then you can more securely spot weld them since now not a lot energy to start a fire. Another thing, look like your weld is too hot ? Maybe try to lower your current or use a timer to cut power before it's too hot?

The most skilled professionals can repair what they have or create their own tools from scratch, improvise unusual solutions when necessary, and rely on their skills to use whatever they have available to get the job done. Unskilled tradesmen rely on the tool to do the job for them and are often helpless without their specific equipment, whereas skilled ones rely mostly on their understanding of the work and what needs to be done to accomplish their work, so the tools themselves become much less relevant. Ideally, you'd have skilled tradesmen who also have excellent tools to work with, but the skill is always more important than the bear.

I would strongly recomend thicker wire for the replaced coil. That wire used in the video can get hot and melt the insulation, when in use.

Уважаемый! Вы молодец! Для ремонта на необитаемом острове, при наличии кучи металлов и старых запчастей, по технологии - "И так сойдёт!" - Просто замечательно! Супер! Ну а если подойти к решению вопроса ремонта батарей, то куча нарушений при замене акб. Это и выбор новых элементов вместе со старыми и перегрев элементов при сварке (100% будет больше сопротивления в миллиомах), ну и не аккуратность.

Порожает,сваривать ячейки нержавейкой(всеобщая практика) Бьётесь за низкое сопротивление каждой ячейки,потом засовываете в жопу это,таким соединением,плюс перегрев сваркой или пайкой.Кроме постоянно оттапыренного вверх большого пальца, у большой категории токих умельцев, наблюдаю только метод,,абы как".🫢

Так чаще прожигает,как сваркой,я поставил микрик,на вкл.220в на одном электроде,держак сделал из кусочка фанеры плоским,типа рейки,а жала из провода заземления 3мм,прижимаю-нажимаю и отпускаю микрик...и ВСЁ...контакт не дрожит,искра не скачет и получается чистейшая КОНТАКТНАЯ сварка.

@@user-hz1ew1jr9d Трансформатор от микроволновки. Вторичка удалена. Вместо нее несколько(2-4) витков медного провода. При сварке важен ток, а не напряжение, поэтому важна толщина провода, а не число витков. На видео провод тонковат. Собран самый примитивный вариант, поэтому много искр, что не есть гуд. Повторять не рекомендую. Это хрень.

Я просто ударяю по микрику пальцем , чтоб не перегреть точку . Буду переделывать держак по типу китайских - микрик на один из электродов поставлю , а ставить релюшку пока нет желания возиться .

Great job!!! What was the transformer taken from? Also, where can you get thin metal strips like you used? I"ve been thinking of doing something like that but in a much cruder device, like using a storage battery with 12 foot jumper cables and home-made electrodes like yours. It made a much neater (and probably safer) spot welder than what I was going to use.

the strips are actually almost (!) the same as the exterior metal part outside of a battery

При такой сварке элемент уже можно выбросить , чудо что он не прожёг элемент . Хорошая сварка происходит за счёт кратковременного импульса тока большой силы . Тогда и элемент не нагревается выше 60 градусов , и пластину оторвать невозможно .

That should read. Add a Rheostat to have voltage control and I would also sleeve the leads through those sharp metal holes. Great job though. The other thing is to use thicker gage weld leads and add another turn to quieten the hum

Прежде чем выкидывать отдельные батареи надо было попробовать их зарядить не выкорчевывая их с места зарядником для сотового телефона. Некоторые поддаются зарядке до полной ёмкости. Может быть не пришлось бы их разбирать.

@@koss7210 Посмотрите промерку напряжения до демонтажа банок. 3 шт по 0В, одна 2 и одна 7 (как может быть 7?). О чем это говорит? Какая балансировка. Хоть бы полосу под обрезанные пластины засунул - ан нет, поверху и пожечь сильнее,что бы термоусадка двух соседних АКБ подплавилась. Проще было бы подпаять.

@@user-nu1ev7ci8z посмотрел, там не 7 а 0,07в. Вот на каждой 0 - 0,07 - 0,02 - 0 - 0,02в - это что за напряжение на банках? Какой балансир, тут батарею З/у не видит и не запускает. Нужно вручную каждую банку зарядить и на остаточную емкость проверить, хотя литий если разряд ниже 2-2,5 вольт - то там такая потеря емкости и деградация, что в мусор сразу ото всё... А этот мастер итальяно, что-то там намерил, оторвал, припаял. И Хорошо, Спасибо, Пока!) Короче Джованни криворукий "мастер" ломастер. От таких одни проблемы после ремонта. В итоге этот аккум от шурика в мусор выкинуть!

@@koss7210 Я тоже удивился, что сразу три и в нуле. Ну в крайнем случае 2 и то какое то напряжение должно быть. АКБ все однозначно в мусорку. Мне кажется с платой БМС не все в порядке.

@@user-nu1ev7ci8z дело не в Бмс. Сам аккумулятор со свалки, давно валялся, год может и больше, поэтому все банки в "ноль" - такое в мусор. Он поэтому может так небрежно паял, зная что потом просто выкинет его

НЕ смешите. Чтобы варить кузовщину, надо делать споттер минимум на двух трансформаторах и с обмотками сечением не менее 35 квадратов медм.

Bellissimo progetto , geniale aver usato l involucro di un alimentatore da pc per contenere il tutto , dirò una cosa ovvia già detta , se aggiungi un pedale ed un timer monostabile al primario , fatto ad esempio con un ne555 ed un triac , si potrebbe avere forse più precisione e ripetibilità nelle saldature , bellissima realizzazione come sempre, complimenti.

Старые кривые косые, плоскости примыкания нет, ток будет плохо протекать. Я бы тоже новые приварил 0.2 толщиной.

Легче приварить новые , чем старые оставлять , при плохом примыкании или не будет нормального контакта , или можно даже элемент прожечь .

Какая дичь 🤣 на 11:11 он варит как дуговой сваркой. Его счастье, что он не прожег аккумы и все это не бахнуло. Нужно сначала прижать электроды, а только потом подача напряжения на первичную обмотку. Желателен таймер для подачи коротких импульсов. Вторичная обмотка тонкая, 10-ка, нужно 35мм как минимум. Ужас.

Ha én csinálnék egy ilyet, akkor készítenék egy időzítőt a primer oldalra. Könnyen meg lehet oldani egy kis segéd tápegységgel, egy NE555-tel, egy optotriakkal, és egy triakkal. A hegesztés indításához egy láb pedált alkalmaznék. Köszönöm a videót!

@@Aleks-kj1ww8ds8x Слабая сварка эта. этот трансформатор может не только фольгу, но и толстые листы стали до 3мм толщиной сваривать , только надо туда медный провод на 35 мм2 и три витка намотать.

Какую же херню он сделал. Суть точечной сварки - высокий ток при минимальном времени контакта. Один день у тебя или АКБ рванет или от перегрева изоляция с проводов слезет и закоротит на корпус БП.

Spot welder should allow the current for a small fraction of the time when it's pressed, when you're replacing cells in the battery you should do all cells not only 0v's. And those welds are really terrible. It's 0$ fire hazard and I would go buy normal replacement if I had to do this.

Help... I got a psu powersupply from fleamarket. When I open it has no small cirquitboard near powerplug... so if I cut wires it will be 220v directly through the green/yellow coilwire. Is that ok?!? Whats the small green board in the corner do. Please, I REALLY need a LI welder!! Best regards Liz

hi, yes you basically have 220 direct volts. the small board would be for the switch but it depends on the case, some don't have it. If there is no switch, put one on for safety. bye thank you

Never "add" new cells to an existing pack. Always throw each and every one out (or re-purpose them as single cells), and replace the entire packet. These cells that haven't yet died, are going to die sooner or later, and then, you'll have to open it up again and again, creating an endless cycle of "adding new cells to half-used ones" Also, the "bare transformer" method is a surefire (kek) way to have yourself a lithium fire on your workbench :v These 18650 casings are thinner than they look. Yes, it might be cheap, but it is just not worth it in the end. The lowest effort "spot welder" would be to have an SCR controlled with an Arduino, and then to set the pulse duration via the code (or implement an encoder / buttons & a screen to see the set value, if you have a bit more money to spend), and then have the Arduino turn on the SCR for a set amount of time. Then, have some trash cells at hand (best to discharge them completely via a resistor, something like 100kOhm or more will suffice, just tape one lead to positive, the other one to the negative terminal, and leave until the voltage drops to 0V). Then, try your spot welds on these, because when a cell is completely discharged, a potential failure won't be as dangerous as it would be with a cell that has the nominal 3,7V (but they still can be dangerous, so a metal bucket with sand is very, very much advised).
