ONE YEAR OF FOILING

What's up everyone,
Stoked to get back on KZread and chat about the journey. I have been super busy with work and in general nursing a hand injury so sorry about the hold up. Stoked to say that I have been foiling for one year and having a complete blast doing so. I have been using exclusively the Progression 125 and trying to figure out new feelings for it. Been messing a bit with tails but will be trying out more the next entry. Also just got another board by Portal which is their version of the Disco Butter. As much as I love the Trans Medium 17 I was a having a tough time popping up in bigger surf with confidence so decided to go a little wider. Anyway hope you enjoy and next entry will be a lot more focused on both the Disco Butter and also personal tuning of the 125.

Mate you’re super lucky with only a finger injury. I’m a Windsurf foiler with a lot of surfing experience. I tried proning, on my 2nd session nearly ripped my nose off when I came into contact with the foil. Well done on your progress, you’re doing great! Yew 🤙

When falling when Winging try only letting go with your backhand, With your front hand turn the Wing flat into the wind while falling and you will soften your landing. Your Wing will be right side up in the water. Transfer front hand to the front luff handle and your ready to get back on the board. No drama and I use this technique in various conditions.

That why im using strap, strapless is good in winging but it's way more dangerous for me or the gear , when you have strap you are falling one side or the other but never on the board, i have the habit to toss the wing away from the foil too ps : recently i used strapless and i destroyed my board and my wing lol, i will never do it again without strap lesson learned ( i was trying to tune strap position setting).

Sorry about your finger injury -- hope that heals quickly. I think the Disco Butter comes in 3 sizes and you have the 4'4" x 18" wide. I think yours is 27L -- what is the thickness and weight? Will the Disco Butter boards be sold through Unifoil or through Erik? Where can you get deck pads like that? Thx!

Thanks man. Cool thing about the human body is it wants to heal if you take care. Anyway Disco Butter, so it will be sold via Unifoil I believe in 2024. I would ask Erik about a Portal version if you are interested in that. I don't have a dim spec sheet but I measured it to 4'4x18. The tail on mine is a different template which may change the volume. I know Uni is making these in 3 sizes but I would wait for the exact specs because maybe they will change.

Thank you. Do you have a ballpark range on a custom Portal board from Erik or what is the best way to contact him?

You're doing great pumping the 125. What's your weight again, and did you find going from. 170 to 140 to 125 harder for pumping

I am 140 and about 5'8 as far as that. So I actually started with the 140 then got the 170 then got the 125. For me I really liked the 140 and have barely used the 170 except to try winging and a few times in small small stuff. But I found that the 140 does everything in my prone world great. I then got the 125 to replace the 140 which at first was a struggle to get used to but now adjusting a lot. The 140/125 are two different wings not only in size but also in design. As I said in the 125 entry I unfortunately had to sell the 140, but might ask for another one when I get some extra cash. Bottom line. 170 is the easiest to pump but the slowest has the best low end glide. 125 is the hardest to find the pump but the fastest. Which at speed makes it pretty easy and you can go with light taps. 140 is somewhere in the middle and honestly still in my eyes a wing quiver killer till it gets a little big. Hope this helps.

What's your fuse? once i went with the shorter fuse, most of the breaching issues disappeared for me

I am using a short fuse. I feel like it gives the foils so much more action.
