FIRST IMPRESSIONS ON THE UNI FOIL PROGRESSION 125 ( My new one wing quiver killer)

What's up everyone,
I am beyond excited to share with you my first couple days on the Progression 125 Wing by ‪@Unifoil‬ . After day 4 of riding this wing exclusively I am confident to say that for what I want to do in prone foiling it's clicking all the boxes. I was unsure of how it would work in smaller swell but I actually like it more than the 140. I do have to mess around with the tuning in bigger swell as I am having breaching issues at times. Of coarse this is something that I have had issues in the past and was corrected with the shunt tail by Uni foil which is front foot pressure. If you have any tuning suggestions please feel free to share in the comments section.

It still blows my mind watching your progression and how good you’ve gotten David! Some notes from my experience with the progression line: The larger the foil, the further forward in the box it likes, and vise versa. With the tails, I think the larger front wings feel better with 0° or positive shims. Also the bigger the surf, the more + shim the tails need I believe. Could be wrong on this tail/shim stuff since it’s all based on like 3 sessions on them

Thanks so much. I am going to try to move the mast back a touch as per what Erik said. There is a size difference between the front wing to mast area being longer on the 125. I am just hoping I don't have to change my foot placement which I really like at the moment. Shims are just forever changing in my journey haha. Sometimes I like non and sometimes I like some. In a perfect world with the Uni system it would be fantastic to change shims as per condition but of coarse that was kinda the idea with the G10 tails.

It looks a bit like the latest Omen. They are both thin. This one has a little more sweep back at the ends and also the anhedral weakens closer in from the tips in this one. I have my own design finishing up on the 3D printer and it's slightly closer to this one except I have more anhedral curve in the middle and thinner tips at a different angle. All planforms that should shred. I was surprised how much forward of the mast this is though, it makes it more turn resistant.

Any input from guys who are 85-90kg? Love the 170, hoping this 125 isn’t just too small for bigger dudes

If you go on the Unifoil KZread I believe there is some info from people in that range.

Great review: May I ask how much you weigh? I’m 165 lb and trying out the 170 right now SUP foiling. I am wondering if I should go for the 125 instead. Thank you!

I am 140 pounds. It honestly really depends on how comfortable you feel on the 170.

Curious to know what changes you made on take off on 125 vs 140?

In general nothing really changed. Because it's a little smaller I did find that I have to paddle just a little more because I would get stuck in the whitewater. But that's really it.

Every time you flip that wing around i worry you'll cut your nose off 😂. Why does the shunt stop breaching? I thought more tail downward pressure would create more lift overall. Or do you shift your stance forward? Also, you mention gettting overfoiled on bigger sets. Will you keep the Vyper 130?

haha. why do you think I wear the hat.. So shunt tail is for tow and or bigger waves. It helps keep the nose down at high speeds and for me it helps keep the nose down in turns. I haven't tried it yet but I think it will be the answer to my issue. As far as getting over foiled the shunt should help with that as well. Also in general I haven't ridden bigger surf in a while so just adjusting takes time. I don't move my stance but I think I adjust my weight a little more forward at times. I will keep the Vyper 130 but I think it will only be used if I decide to tow bigger swell with a short period so I don't have to pump. The Vyper by far is the best maneuvering wing I have used but the progression just pumps so good

@@theliftjournal "It helps keep the nose down at high speeds" - not so sure about this. It's a more foiled section compared to the other tails, so it produces more downward force which lifts the front foil (and nose) UP, which gives you MORE overall lift and more frontfoot pressure. Reason it's for tow / bigger waves is that it helps prevent forward pitching (nose down) of the front foil at higher speeds. For less lift (less breaching) the negative 0.5 shim and Shiv work well for me on 140P and 170P. I also still prefer the Vyper 130 in the heavier stuff - I like my nose where it is ;-)

@@JAMvideo1 My verbiage isn't the best so I apologize for that. I am not talking about the shunt changing the angle of attack. If I wanted to ride nose down I could baseplate shim but I would rather not. When I say keep the nose down I mean keeping the foil in the water and not breaching. Which in my past experience has helped with the shunt tail. As far as experimenting with other ways of helping with breaching in bigger surf I will be experimenting with negative shims, but I don't really want to go faster which will happen with that. I had my 140 pretty dialed in with the shunt tail and just trying to figure out how to dial in the 125. Although it is in the same family as the 140-170 it is a different feel all together.
