this is hands-down the BEST tutorial on the internet for a one row buttonhole. I love that you explained how to avoid creating holes, why you twisted stitches as you did the cabled cast-on (as well as how to actually DO the cabled cast on). Really valuable video!

Thank you not only for demonstrating how to execute a one row buttonhole but for explaining why you twist the cable cast on stitches when returning to the needle and how to avoid those horrible holes in my knitted fabric. I subscribed for this tip alone. But I’m sure I’ll be back for more tips in the future.

I haven't knitted for about 20 years so was excited to knit a cable cardigan for my little grandson, I don't like 1 stitch button holes so wanted to do a 4 stitch button hole, but when I got to that point I couldn't remember for the life of me how to do them... But I found your tutorial... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.. So easy to follow and some great little tips..

Thank you so much for this tutorial. It is clear and concise. I also like that you are working on a live project rather than a swatch--may not matter to others, but it made a difference for me.

Thank you SO MUCH for mentioning about not snugging up the yarn too much on those first and last stitches! I frogged a button band due to that exact issue!❤

I have been wanting to make this cardigan for my dad for ages. The cables are a little intimidating but the hold up was really all about button holes. They give me fits and they never ever look good. They always look like an accidental hole I didn’t bother to fix. I watched several vids that did not help at all. Then I found this vid. It’s clear, it’s concise, and more importantly my button hole came out clean neat and tight the first time. (The second time not so much, but I forgot to wrap the yarn on the first stitch so that’s on me. 😂) thank you so much for your help. I worked really hard on this sweater and I couldn’t bear to have giant ugly holes in it!

Excellent demonstration. I have had a frustrating relationship with button holes but that is in the past. I have been putting off knitting a fun sweater for a two year old because of the 18 buttonholes. Now I think I can I can do it (probably with 12 buttons). Many thanks.

Great demonstration. I have marked where I want my 1" buttons to go on the button band, and have matched that spot with a marker for each on the buttonhole band. Since my buttons are 1", and I want to place them 3" apart, how do I know how many stitches to bind off? Your demo showed 4 bind offs + 1 extra to cast back on. Would I start the buttonhole 2 stitches before my marker? Or 3? Thanks for your help, that is the last step I need before finishing my sweater, Weld by Berroco. EDIT: I figured it out! I started the button hole 2 stitches before my marker and it worked out great! I had to do 9 of them.

Good job! It all depends on your gauge and the diameter of your buttons, but it sounds like you already figured that out.
