1-Row Buttonhole

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This a knitting tutorial for knitting a buttonhole. I am working it for 5-stitches, but you can use more or less depending on the size button you have and your gauge.
Move working yarn to the front of your work, slip 1 stitch purlwise, return yarn to the back, *slip 1 stitch, pass first slipped stitch over the 2nd to bind off 1 st; rep from * until you have bound off 1 less than the total amount of stitches for the size buttonhole you are creating. (So for this video, I bound off 4 stitches to create my 5-stitch buttonhole.) Slip the last stitch on your right-hand needle over to the left-hand needle and turn your work. With the wrong side facing you, cast on the total number of stitches of your buttonhole, for me this was 5 stitches, using the Cable Cast On method, BEFORE placing the last of the new cast on stitches onto the left-hand needle, bring your working yarn to the front of your work, then place the new stitch on the needle, turn work. Slip 1 stitch knitwise, pass the last stitch that was cast on over the slipped stitch and off the needle. Your buttonhole is complete!

I have been looking with increasing desperation for a buttonhole technique that doesn't result in a gap at one or other of the sides of the buttonhole. This is the one that actually worked for me. Thank you very much indeed - you're a life-saver! 😀

Thank you soooo much for this! Every video and website I’ve visited for the last 2 hours was showing stockinette. I’m vey visual and needed to see this using garter since my button bands are garter stitch. So happy I can now finish my sweater.

This was so nicely described. Thank you so much. I am about to add button holes to a pillow that I am making and I think I’m gonna go with your instructions instead of the ones that came with the pattern🧶❤️

I love the no gaps on either end of this buttonhole. Does this also work in stockinette stitch. Thx so very much for the excellent tips, always wanted to improve my buttonholes.

There appears to be a small hole to the right of the buttonhole when finished. Is there a way to close this or does it integrate and disappear as you knit?

Hi Andrea! I watched a video recently where you showed us a wooden post that sat on a turntable in order to spin. I have not watched your videos in order because often YT will throw one up from way back. After rewatching 6 videos in hopes of finding it I have given up and hope you can tell me what it is called and where I can find one! Thank you! ❤️🙏🏼❤️
