I’m a novice knitter and it isn’t always explained even in beginners books the minute stages of doing something so it was really good to find an instructional video that explains exactly what I needed to do. Thank you

Thank you I've been vexed by the little strand of yarn coming across the button hole and this was the only one that addressed that problem. The one row buttonholes are always sloppy on my work, o I prefer the 2 row method Thank you again!

Sincere thanks for giving me the instruction on making a horizontal buttonhole, I had tried and tried and was on the verge of throwing it away And knitting a band, you made it look so simple and I was able to follow it. It just finished the cardigan, and I am delighted. Thank you.

If you have picked up stitches from the edges of the fronts of your cardigan you will be making the buttonhole band working away from the garment edge. The pattern should tell you how many buttonholes to make but you may have to work out how many stitches to work between each buttonhole. You work one row which places the buttonhole positions by casting off the required number of stitches for each buttonhole and then knitting to the position of the next buttonhole and and casting off for the next buttonhole, repeating this for the number of buttonholes you need. then work to the end of the row. On the next row you work up to the first group of stitches cast off and then cast on for the buttonhole and knit to the next group of cast off stitches and repeat until you have cast on all the stitches over the cast off stitches of the previous row. If you are knitting a narrow band that will be sewn to the edge of the garment you need to knit 4 or 6 rows before making the first buttonhole row. The buttonhole should be placed in the middle of the band working the cast off stitches row and then the cast on stitches row. you then knit about 2 inches, 4cm to 5cm before making another buttonhole. Hope that helps.
