    This is wonderful. So clearly explained and with good advice on purling on the wrong side. I have just used it on an aran weight cardigan: it was easy and it looks super. It is also very graceful of you to acknowledge Barbara G Walker as your source. I have seen another, widely quoted, tutorial on the subject whose author does not quote the source. Thank you, Maryna, for all your knitting help!

    What an awesome way to make a button hole. I made a dog sweater for a dachshund with a side button up design. My buttonhole was so pathetic, it stretched and the button never stayed done up. I was so disappointed. I love yours so much better. I think my friends dachshund deserves a much nicer button up .... you've inspired me to dig out that pattern for another go at it. Thanks for sharing ... :)

    I have only done after button holes in I just made them by binding off 1 or 2 stitches and on the next row, casting on the same amount of stitches to create the holes. Thank you for giving us another option. I definitely refer to this video when I need to make a project that requires button holes.

    Thank you. I love your videos and find them so easy to understand. Just one question on button holes - do I need to do the cable cast on purlwise if my garment is all garter stitch?

  • @10rowsaday

    @10rowsaday

    3 жыл бұрын

    If you want to mimic the texture of garter stitch, you can do the cable cast on knitwise (it will look like "purls" on the right side of the work). Or, you can make the buttonhole as instructed in this tutorial and keep both the top and the bottom part of the buttonhole looking like knits. As always, the best way to know is to swatch :-)

    I want to get the PDF of just this video, but when I clicked onto the PDF offering, I was offered to be sold the entire club. Also, I'm a left handed knitter & it is difficult to follow videos of right handed knitters. I just discovered on Chrome how to "mirror/unmirror" utube images, so I can more easily follow by sight, how to do this button hole without having to do any mind gymnastics to arrive at a button hole. What a revelation for me & other left handed crafters.

    Hi Liza. It is very clever of you to use the "mirror" function to watch tutorials in the "left-handed" way. You don't need to join the club to read or print the photo tutorial that explains how to make this buttonhole. You will find it at www.10rowsaday.com/one-row-buttonhole Happy knitting :-)

    Hello there, I'm a very know subscriber as of a few days ago. I decided to take up knitting again. I came across a pattern that I could use a circular needle for loop knitting, I'm a very novice knitter, didn't know what loop knitting was, by searching KZread, among the few I watched I found yours was the best. I managed to learn it from watching your tutorial. I'm looking to by a circular need with easy flex cable, the one I have is very hard to work with. Can you recommend which kind I can purchase? Please. I was lost online looking for one not knowing what really works. Thank you. Yor are an amazing teacher!

  • @10rowsaday

    @10rowsaday

    4 жыл бұрын

    Welcome back to knitting, Tina :-) I'm happy my tutorial helped you master the magic loop technique. As to the type of needles, you are right - all that really matters is the type of the cable. It should be long (the full length of the circular needles should be at least 80cm / 32"), soft and smoothly attached to the needles (so that it doesn't catch the stitches as you move them around the needle). Happy knitting!

    This may seem like a funny question, but is it possible to close up a button hole by sewing it shut and having it appear pretty seamless? I put a button hole in the wrong place and would hate to rip the piece back that far. It is in a 1x1 rib button band.

  • @10rowsaday

    @10rowsaday

    4 жыл бұрын

    Of course, you can stitch the buttonhole, but, most likely, it will be visible, especially if it is a horizontal buttonhole made in 1x1 ribbing. The least visible way to hide it would be to carefully graft the knit stitches above and below the buttonhole on the right side of the work. The wrong side of the button band will still look quite messy, but who looks at the wrong side, right :-) Good luck!
