I just finished watching the last episode Wednesday & loved the entire Season. I was concerned it would be difficult for Netflix to adapt 60 half hour anime episodes into just 8 hour long live action episodes, but this is definitely 1 of the best anime adaptations ever that does the manga & anime proud.

Glad you guys are enjoying the live action! I'll be honest, this is the first live action anime where I was blown away, so I can't wait for a second season. By the way, there's more than one power set in One Piece besides Devil Fruits. I know it's wild, but trust me sometimes characters in One Piece are just that strong without Devil Fruits. Can't wait for how they explain the other power set Haki!

Garp just has that "latino energy" that americans or first-world viewers don't understand. One Piece is a dangerous world, so you need a more latin-american approach to raise kids who will not die, instead of thinking on the child's feelings, it's best to make sure he survives first. Like Shanks himself said: "Better a disappointed kid, than a dead one". The Strawhat crew eventually says (in a future arc) that Luffy is strong and has a lot of survival instincts thanks to Garp.

5:35 Sanji's actor is Spanish, from the Canary Islands. He has a Canarian accent :) This caused a lot of controversy because he dubbed himself in the Spanish version (from Spain, not the Latin one) with his natural Canarian accent, and it's pretty different from the "neutral" one. Some people just didn't like that, but most of us Spanishs really love him. The memes and fanarts about him being Canarian are hillarious.

You guys should search up what Mihawk looked like in the Anime/Manga because they absolutely NAILED the casting for him. the costume, the sword, the facial hair, even the facial structure almost looked like it was copy pasted from the anime into the live action, my jaw absolutely dropped when I saw him, especially since he's not really introduced so early on in the story.

I was cautiously optimistic with the trailers. My main worry was the show's ability to capture the scale of the crazy powers that exist in this world without going too over the top to the point of looking cringy in live-adaptation, very much in line with what Aaron said during his intervention of finding the correct balance. But after seeing Mihawk slice that galleon in half and his fight with Zoro, I'm convinced this show is in great hands. It can only get even better from here!

The live action doesn't really touch on this but the explicit reason Sanji only kicks when he fights is so as not to damage his hands in any way, as they are a cook's most valuable tool. He also should have a curly eyebrow but they seem to have decided against it here

Zoro is really cool, and I dig his design and the choices that surround his character, like how he uses the sword of his friend last when he needs that extra help in battle and how he holds it in his mouth because of the verbal promise he made to her. That's a really good, unique, and interesting touch. The people or person who designed the characters deserve a pat on the back, and so do the designers and actors and also writers on the show for bringing the characters to life in a mostly accurate way.

with one piece netflix really doesn't have a reason to stretch out thingstoo much seeing as the original source material is so densely packed with rich storytelling + it already has 26 years on them in length. imo netflix actually has the opposite problem which is how do we fit all these dense arcs into just 8 episodes of running time. i think they found a very good balance. this is what happens when the source material is rich enough to carry itself, no reason to drag. btw this fight is also very short in the og series as well, mihawk really lays zoro down in under an episode and we pretty much see it play out the same way in runtime too. but damn the live action is really quite astonishingly good. though it's hard to express to new fans just how much even better the original series is. every emotion and cool scene is like amped up to the max. i really do hope new fans who got moved by this live action will end up starting the series too from the beginning bc the og story is even richer and without limits of medium. anyways, another great reaction from you guys. i love every time you post these!

The thing to know about Luffy is that while he obviously wanted Zoro to win, dreams are things you stake everything on, including your life. Luffy didn’t think he’d lose, but even if he died Luffy would have said “He died chasing his dream. Not letting him pursue his dream would have been much much worse”. He might lament the outcome, but he’d never forgive himself for stopping Zoro.

The thing is One piece has charm and most western anime fans just want complete edge 24/7. The cool thing about Odas writing is because he understands how to make people feel the characters pain.

The actor playing Sanji, Taz Skylar, he was born in and grew up in the Canary Islands in Spain so he speaks Spanish fluently, his dad's Lebanese and his mum's English (from Yorkshire), so he also speaks English fluently. He's spent the last few years in London, he wrote and starred in and off-West-End play (like Off-Broadway) called 'Warheads' that got nominated for an Olivier Award (Englands equivalent of the Tony Awards). Turns out he actually learned kickboxing and took cooking lessons just for this role.
