Jared Leto deliberately gave an unconvincing performance because he's not playing the real Joker, he is portraying being a bad actor, playing The Joker. In many sceans, he accidentally played The Joker too convincingly and they had to be cut.

Spencer Stream Human memory is sh*t. You can forget why something means something to you or provokes an emotional reaction, and it still will. You can have a hatred of clowns over a forgotten memory. It’s one of the ways the human mind works. I guarantee you, if you ask someone to recall any event perfectly from over ten years ago, perhaps, eh, 9/11, they would not be able to actually do it accurately, if there was a record of what they did that day to compare it to. The brain will forget things and fill in the gaps based on conjecture and guesswork. The only ‘perfect’ memory is emotional memory.

Tamás Pákey Oh absolutely. But remembering what scarred you perfectly is unlikely. Now, at his age(noting that I am putting him at around nine or ten from what I can tell), I doubt he’d have forgotten the mask or the fact that coincidentally there was a massive Joker gang riot when his parents were murdered. It’s possible he could have forgotten the clown mask, but altogether unlikely. This Batman probably grew with either a fear or hatred of clowns.

The movie spends about 15 minutes straight *just* to make sure that we *know* that Thomas had NOTHING to do with Penny, and Arthur's treatment as a child. Thomas was Penny's employer. As far as the movie tells us, nothing more than that was confirmed. But I WILL give you that Thomas was probably pretty abusive himself. He was a dick.

But as far as the movie tells us? It's pretty much written in stone that *Thomas* was the only one telling the truth.

Well I think the point is that Arthur isn't sure who to believe and likewise the audience isn't either. Given Thomas Wayne's power, he could have had Penny committed to an asylum and gaslit her into thinking she was delusional. We don't know whether the records from the hospital are real or not. Thomas Wayne could also have been the "boyfriend" that beat Arthur. It's shown that he's a corrupt man and a conspiracy isn't impossible. He was rich enough to pay off the hospital staff and the cops if necessary. However, it's all uncertain, just like everything in Arthur's mind. So the audience is itself gaslit, wondering what story was true or not. The truth is, whether Thomas Wayne was the father of Arthur, and whether he committed Penny to an asylum to stop the truth coming out, or whether she was genuinely delusional, she let him get abused, and that abuse led to his brain damage. She also lied to him. That's why he kills her. It doesn't matter what story is true, as what matters is what Arthur THINKS is true. He is a profoundly unreliable narrator.

The hilarious thing is the original video could have at least gone some way to explaining that by saying that the version we saw in Joker is how Arthur imagined the event played out (because he wasn't there and he is also an unreliable narrator), and the BvS version is how it actually happened. Instead they went with saying that Bruce can't really remember the murder of his parents and "tHe PoStEr Is ThE sAmE sO iT's CoNfIrMeD!"

The problem with things like ScreenCrush's video is there are tons of other comments you see on Joker videos with the same idea. Like some people can't understand that a standalone "comic book character" film can exist, it always has to be "connected" to a bigger universe. This isn't even really a Joker movie, it feels like a movie about a mentally ill man named Arthur Fleck and his downward spiral to lunacy from society beating him down. Ok, that's kind of a confusing statement because it feels like I'm insulting the movie, I'm not, movie was very good. What I mean is this Joker movie feels like a downright one-and-done Elseworld story. If you want you can pretty much write out all the Batman references in the movie like the names and it would still work as an actual movie that has no relation to Batman.

I heard they're calling it the dc extended society nowadays.

It would be way better than the current DC cinematic universe which contains Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman, Justice League, Aquaman, and Suicide Squad. There are more terrible films in the DC cinematic universe than okay and good ones by a lot, it would frankly be better if they just did a hard reboot and started over including Joker as the first film, but they'll never do it.

That is actually an interesting concept, because if you think about it, if Phoenix's version of joker is in his 40s when bruce wayne is like 8 or 10, and if bruce wayne doesnt become batman till hes like 35, then Arthur Fleck would be in his 70s by then. It just wouldn't make sense for Batman hunting down a 70 year old joker. But it would make sense that Arthur Fleck inspired a bunch of copycats after his heyday of crime. And yes I know it's a stand alone film, but it's fun to think about a what if scenario like that.

It literally says "standalone" in the description of the movie and the writers have said multiple times that it is an original story that is no way tied to any other DC Universe

The fade to black was the best thing you could of ever put for a DC clip. There's so many clips and so little time to dedicate to all the embracing DC moments.

When you cut to black, all I could hear was the "HUNKA HUNKA" of Jared Leto's Joker and I'm not sure whether I'm more mad at you for not putting literally anything else there to fill the void or more mad at myself for somehow still remembering that scene. I haven't watched Suicide Squad since it's release please help that line scarred me for life.

How "Joker" (2019) secretly connects to the DCEU. The answer: IT DOESN'T. DC and WB confirmed that it's not connected to the DCEU and is instead starting what will be known as the "DC Dark Universe" and will consist of other Joker like films that don't actually connect aside from some Easter eggs here and there.

@@raymendez89 no I don't actually. The comics have a series known as black label which are standalone and include such works as the Killing Joke, Watchmen, etc. but the films are being branded under DC Dark (although reportedly another name for it is DC Black so I guess you were half right).

I wasn't huge on Joker and became frustrated for a bit because everyone loved it and I didn't but fuck Ralph's video on Joker was probably his worst video. So pretentious and lacks self awareness

at this point i think its clear that people just really disliked letos joker, and loved phoenixs joker, and are doing mental gymnastics to find ways to replace the former with the latter in a way that doesnt infringe on canon. unpopular opinion, i liked letos joker. would have enjoyed seeing him as a main villain instead of two glorified cameos

If that was true-that Joker is a secret prequel to the DCEU-they definitely would’ve revealed that in a post-credits scene.

Why would you need a dc cinematic universe live action when you can just watch Batman brave and the bold?

The whole violent Wayne point is just there for people who missed a part of the movie, forgot about, or haven't seen part of the movie where Arthur's childhood trauma is explained. If they are just going for clickbait they could at least not included something that was a major point in the movie.

I think the “all in” tattoo is a reference to Heath Ledger’s joker. Ledger’s makes a lot of poker references and I’m pretty sure he at some point says something along the lines “all in” not positive so don’t take as fact. Also pretty sure the directors said Joker doesn’t actually happen in DCEU and is entirely separate

Also, in the DCEU, there are no riots happening outside before the Waynes die. Even if the DCEU flashback was Bruce's interpretation of the event, there is no way that he's gonna forget about the riots that caused their death and the clown mask as stated.
