Sugar ray ditched Pryor and wouldn't fight him, his whole career. But he will never be forgotten in Cincinnati, that used be a great fight town, alot good boxers came outta Cincinnati . Sense this mma gained popularity, fight game won't ever b the same. Sad, but true, not knocking mma, but you think any welterweight could take them head shots?????? I don't think so, boxing is a diffrent fight than mma.

Arguello was a Technical fighter. I was impressed when he fought Mancini. Mancini had only 2 or so good fights. He hung with Arguello for 15 rounds. In 14th mancini missed with a right and was knocked down with left hook. Didnt hurt him but it was the shot that won arguello the fight. Mancini needed a ko in last round to win. Argueloo was very respectful of ray. Said he didnt realize the he was such a boxer like him. Classy guy.

@@travelin.trucker Lou Duva used to do the same thing. Watch the first fight between Holyfield and Dwight Qawi. Qawi was a beast but he lost by decision. Holyfield never seemed to get tired. He would tire a bit toward the end of a round sometimes, then come out like a tiger no matter how late in the fight. I heard Qawi make a comment about it years later, so I went back to look. Sure Enough, Duva was using a 'special' bottle. He gave Holyfield a drink between every other round. He would tip the bottle very carefully when giving Holyfield a drink. He even put a towel under his chin. He acted as if the drink was too valuable to spill a drop. Usually they're splashing water around in the corner, the fighter spits out water after rinsing his mouth. When he gave Holyfield the 'go' juice, he didn't spit it out, he swallowed it. I'm not sure what he was putting into the mix.

This may be my favourite fight of all time . Hagler v Mugabi, Duran v Barkley, Hagler v Hearns, Holmes v Mercer, Ali v Foreman, Sanchez v Lopez 1, Ward v Gatti 1,2,3 among others are right up there. In the end Pryor showed just how great of a boxer he was. The angles, the fluidity, the chin, the ability to let his hands go. Pryor vs Duran, Leonard, Hearns, and Hagler are fights that would have happened had Pryor stayed focused and stayed clean. I still think it's safe to say he was one of the best to ever lace them up.

Great fight. How Alexis Arguello managed to stay on his feet until the ref stepped in was almost superhuman. Pryor looking so fresh at the end, also superhuman. Boxing used to be on Wide World of Sports on weekends, then HBO for years. It was extremely popular with me and the general public in those days. I know PPV brings in the cash now, but as a young person, I thought having it on more available platforms was better for the popularity of the sport.

Sad day in sports when 15 rounders got the axe. The last 15 round heavyweight championship bout was sanctioned by the WBC - WBA - IBF on October 16th of 1987, it was fought between Mike Tyson and Tyrrel Biggs with victory of Iron Mike by TKO7/15. This was the last fifteen round title bout sanctioned by the WBC. Years have passed but it seems like yesterday when the genuine championship rounds defined who was a true champion from the rest.

First part is true, but second part is not. People enjoy not giving Sugar Ray Leonard his credit but he was known to focus on fighting and beating other champions. Why would he fight prime, champion Duran (72-1) twice, and prime, unbeaten champions Benitez, Kalule and Hearns during this period but avoid The Hawk? He wouldn't. The fact is that Leonard signed to fight Pryor for late 1982 which would be after his mandatory against Roger Stafford scheduled for May 82. However, after Leonard beat Bruce Finch in February 1982 he suffered a detached retina and was forced to retire a few months later...until his 1984 comeback against Kevin Howard at light-middleweight despite the advice of many eye specialists.

Do you think this a brutal fight for Arguello? I counted 50 punches landed by Pryor in the 1st round. I didn't count punches that grazed or were mostly blocked. In one period from 1:35 until 2:10 on the video time clock, Pryor landed 17 punches in 35 seconds. That's one punch every 2 seconds. He landed a total of 19 right hands, 10 left hooks , 18 jabs, 2 uppercuts and 1 body shot. Even though Arguello did well taking those shots and landed quite a few of his own, I think he was hurt and never fully recovered. His eyes were glassy the rest of the fight and he was continually getting hurt when hit with more than one punch. To his credit he hung in there round after round even though it looked like he was in bad shape a couple of rounds before it ended. The ref let him get hit with at least one or two punches more than he should have at the end. The way that Arguello slumped to the mat looked bad, as if he may have been in some real trouble. This was a great fight by 2 great fighters, tainted a bit by the bottle of rocket fuel mixture used by Pryor's trainer.

The Orange Bowl in 1982 downtown Miami. You can bet that the front 10 rows had at least half of them being cocaine dealers or cocaine users. If memory serves, Roberto Duran's career had fallen so fast in the previous two years after quitting against Leonard and losses to Benitez and journeyman Kirkland Lang, that he fought in this same ring on the same card against someone named Jimmy Batten after the Pryor v. @@kingtyomama6564 where's the greatness in going life and death with a war torn and blown up Super Featherweight Arguello? Why didn't Pryor give up a urine sample after the fight? Why did Panama use a 'special mix' bottle?

@@renzopeterson153 Ok, I'm not gonna call you a dummy. AP best AA twice not once and both times showed his greatness. If you say AA wasnt an all-time great, you need to take a look at his plaque in the Hall of Fame. Or ask Ray Mancini.

Great fight between 2 great fighters. Unfortunately, scarred by Pryor's trainer and "The bottle that he mixed" incident. Nonetheless these guys put on an epic battle. Respect to both of these warriors. RIP "El Flaco Explosivo" and "The Hawk".

I remember watching this fight and remember that there was an issue about Pryor's water bottle contents, but heard nothing much about it. It you listen to his trainer before round 3, he asks for the water bottle that, "I mixed". Interesting.

@@michaelangelo6947 I saw Lou Duva giving some jet fuel to Evander Holyfield when he fought Dweight Qawi. I hink they give it every otherv round. Every round would be too much, might blow a hole in their shorts. In this Fight until the 6th so far, Pryor has thrown more in the odd numbered rounds. The even rounds were under 100 punches thrown, the odd were more than 100 punches thrown. 139 in the 1st round, 119 in the 3rd, and 105 in the 5th round. He threw 99 in the 2nd, 91 in the 4th and 88 in the 6th.

If my guess is right I think Manny Pacquiao has learned a lot from Pryor Aaron, the side movements, the quick punching of combinations, the head movement and the trap setting for big punch.

I thought the move is Manny tbh. Great jab, nimble, great head movement, had a chin And I thought Pryor is the best fighter who came out in state of Ohio.

Was Pryor on something? Make your own mind up, watch the video at 7:36 and listen to the trainer after he says ""you're the boss". "give me that drink man the one that I mixed, the one that I mixed, drink some"

While Aaron Pryor was a good fighter offensively, his defense was terrible. He kept his hands low and his chin high, which made him extremely easy to hit. Leonard, Duran and Hearns would have all knocked him out inside of eight rounds. It's a good thing Pryor declined their offers (Leonard and Duran's) to fight back in the day.
