One of the coolest places on Svalbard | THE GLOBAL SEED VAULT | 4K

I went to explore the Svalbard Global Seed Vault! This place is also known as the doomsday vault, and it holds a back up of over 1 million seeds! Check out this video to learn more about the vault and why it is here on Svalbard, located just about 5 min away from my house! :)
I hope you enjoy the video! ♡

I went to school with the son of the previous Director of the Global Crop Diversity Trust (which helps maintain the vault) for a year in High School. He came to talk to us about the Vault and I remember being so enamoured with the idea of so much history being held within there. I became obsessed with the idea of it ever since and I'm so glad to see in the comments that there are so many others like me who heard about it and were just immediately taken by the Vault. Thanks for showing us.

I always wondered why it was a ‘doomsday bunker’ named the Seed Vault. That is amazing. I swear after every video I watch of yours I am even more surprised at how smart Norwegians are. Not to mention the architecture and interior design of almost every establishment is beautiful, new, modern, and so practical & ingenious.

Cecilia, that's the first time I've seen the entrance to SGSV, minus any hype. Thank you. I'm a South African botanist who sourced many seeds for the Millennium Seed Bank (and by extension the SGSV) during the 2000s. Regardless of my reservations regarding "Noah's Ark" projects (we shouldn't f**k up our environment in the first instance), could you inform us as to the maintenance of this facility? Are there dedicated individuals who maintain it as fit for purpose, given rapidly changing environmental conditions? It'd be great to meet them on your channel! Apart from these heady issues, thanks for bridging the northern and southern hemispheres and warm winter hugs from 34.2062° S, 24.8300° E.

Oh wow .. I've been watching your videos since your 3rd one and in all that time, I never once stopped to think that's where the Global Seed Vault is! o.O

My son is there for the next few days, working inside the seed vault as a Canadian exchange student from UBC. Just sent me a pic of himself outside after eating reindeer soup!

Thanks Cecilia for this video but I must say that watching you with the shootgun talking about the Doomsday Seed Vault looks a little bit apocaliptic, having said that I totally get it, polar bears are no joke there and you don't want to be the lunch of one. Really appreciated the information because I didn't know the exact location of that vault in Svalbard and turns out it is 5 minutes of your cabin, amazing. Take care and see you in the next video.
