Not only is that not the northernmost hotel in the world, it's not even the northermost hotel on Svalbard. Grab yourself a room at the Hotel Pyramiden next time you're on Svalbard.

@@WalkWithMeTim I wish it was about the cost. Unfortunately, I made some dumb decisions and ended up with a couple of felony convictions a few decades ago. Those are the things you don't think ahead about when doing stupid crap. Lol. A lot of countries won't allow felons a visa, and since the North Pole isn't in any particular country, looks like I'm gonna have to live vicariously. One day you'll need to land and take off during a blizzard and minus 30° f from Minneapolis St. Paul International. It's an everyday thing; just as it is in the Scandinavian countries.
I worked at the airport in Svalbard for two months - it was a super fun experience living in Svalbard. It is a special place with lots of history and interesting knicks and knacks. This video was a fun throwback 🫶🏼
150 quid for the room, breakfast, hot tub and sauna? That's hugely reasonable. Getting there looks a bit daunting but definitely worth it.

I think there are easier ways to get there than the route Tim took. I went London Heathrow to Oslo, then Oslo to Longyearbyen (though like for Tim the flight stopped in Tromso). Quite possible in a day, I think it was about 6 or 7 hours end to end.

As a long time watcher of both you and Cecilia Blomdahl it was very surreal to see you in Longyearbyen 😯 The hotel wasn't bad at all. To be honest I would have gone in October or April, that way you get both day and night so you can fully appreciate the stunning scenery as well as the Northern lights ✨ 😊 By the way Tromso is pronounced Trom-ser

love the travel day vlog bits! also this video warmed my heart and gave me hope to hold onto on these cold and dull days. it’s not the daylight that makes somewhere cosy, it’s the whole vibe i guess. keep more wintery travel videos coming
Looks like you had such amazing time there Tim with an adventure, really love the sound how the hot tub and the sauna was included in your hotel.
Thoroughly enjoyed this Tim, thanks. Interesting journey/travel day coverage, and then such an interesting and unusual location. Really gave a sense of joining you on the adventure, without having to even leave the sofa! I hope you get some time off from making videos and travelling all over the place over the festive period at least. And maybe then you can take it a bit easier for a while and do some more of your UK hotel videos (my absolute favourites) for a while!🙂
Hi Tim. I love the cosy feel of the room and the reception area.
I’m so glad you showed the flights, how you get to Svalbard… love it!
Wonderful stuff, I love it when you do these sort of places most of us are very unlikely to ever be able to go to, that hotel looked wonderful as well, the hot tub just topped it off!
Wonderful to see this again. I went there in 2018 and stayed in the same hotel. The rooms, bar and breakfast room look the same, but the reception looks like it has been refurbished. The buildings were actually built for the Lillehammer Winter olympics in 1994 and moved here to make this hotel after the games. I was quite surprised when I stayed there that if you book a room in the suites (I didn't) they were actually in a separate building opposite so you had to go outside to get to the hotel facilities which I thought was odd. Your journey seemed convoluted. When I did it you could do it both ways in a day which is what I did. I did Heathrow to Oslo then Oslo to Longyearbyen (both on SAS) and the same in reverse. Like on your trip the flight stopped in Tromso on the way too. The reason for this is Svalbard is actually outside Schengen (in fact I think technically there is no immigration there at all and anyone can go there without even a passport, if you can find a way to get there). Hence you have to go through customs at Tromso to leave Norway again I believe. As to the no gun sign in the shop, in Svalbard it is a legal requirement to have a gun with you (and various other equipment such as a locator beacon) if you go outside of the towns or at least one person in your party has to (hence tour guides will have a gun if you go on any tours). Hence most residents have guns. The Radisson Blu there used to have a gone cabinet near the shoe racks for that reason, not sure if it still does. The town looks much as I remember it but not sure if that big CoOp was there. I went in the summer, so had 24 hour daylight, but the snow was still on the tops of the mountains there. I shall be interested in seeing if you go on any excursions. I took a trip to Ny Alesund. I think this is actually the most northerly town in the world and it's where most expeditions to the North Pole set off from. There is a statue of Roald Amundsen there, who set off from there, as well a shop. Though it's mostly a research town. I had to go there by boat (it's about 3 hours each way I seem to remember) because there are no roads, but I think the sea ice would make it impossible in the winter. Also went Barentsburg and on a walking trip (but that is a Russian settlement, so it may not be possible now) and up to the mountains behind Longyearbyen (even in the summer, crampons and snow shoes required). Didn't see any polar bears though but did see the reindeer wandering in the town as you did , as well as Walruses. I would love to go back and hope to do so.l I had an amazing time there, it is quite literally like nowhere else on earth. Also the tour guide to Ny Alesund was excellent and very friendly so learnt a lot from her. Thank you so much for sharing this. It is wonderful to see it there again and to see what it is like in winter!

I’m so happy I’m found your channel. You show the amazing sights and sounds of places I’ll probably never go. Keep doing it 😂❤❤❤
Flew into Reykjavik last year right at the tail end of their massive blizzard, and it was a little bit of a white-knuckler, but those Icelandair pilots were amazing. Quite possibly the smoothest touchdown I'd ever experienced. They also had the same smooth landing on the return flight. Very impressed. Also found it strange that in such a Northern climate, there's no inside walkway from the landing site to the main terminal. You have to go outside and grab a shuttle bus. You expect a bit of an outdoor airport on Oahu or Fiji, but not in Iceland or Norway
Hiya Tim, great vlog, like hotel and the hot tub, very far but amazing and love to see polar bears ,thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing your next vlog,

What a majestic place! The Main Street there with all the businesses is so beautiful. Thinking of taking my dad somewhere like this as he’s getting older and we’ve always enjoyed doing guy trips to places. He loves places like Norway, Sweden, Iceland and all those countries. This seems like a solid option!

Another fab video Tim. That bathroom is definitely below par for Radisson Blu! x
Good to see what's changed since I was doing a bit of work there over 15 years ago. The bedrooms have at the Radisson have had a serious upgrade! They were very utilitarian back when I was there. The pub/restaurant in the hotel seems much the same. Up the valley on the other side of town is a sort of town hall that had a serious night club going on inside, but also a tiny restaurant called Huset with the most amazing wine list at astonishingly reasonable prices.
